*** 7.3 Stuttgart
keyword: FindStuttgart
The Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen has films of numerous church books. Josef Schmidt,
librarian of the
AKdFF (see FindSocieties), has compiled a list of the records there. It appears that many
Germans have to go
there to look at films; apparently films cannot be rented as they can from the LDS at Salt
Lake City. Mr.
Schmidt directed an inquirer to the LDS.
*** 7.4 Saarbruecken
keyword: FindSaarbruecken
There also are some copies of Danube-Swabian church records at the Landesarchiv
Saarbruecken. An inquirer
was reportedly directed to the above Stuttgart archive.
*** 7.5 Writing an Archive
keyword: FindWrite
When writing archives (for sample letters, please see FindLetters), it is best to:
1) List all known and pertinent information concerning the person/line you are researching:
include name, date
and place of birth/baptism/marriage/death; names of parents/relatives; religion; hometown;
military service,
etc.
2) Request information in the form of "Extract of Birth (or marriage, death, etc.) Record".
Specifically state
that you do not want a "Duplicate Birth/Marriage/Death Certificate". This is more expensive
than requesting an
"Extract".
3) Specify your budget. You may request a search for a single person or event, or you may
request a search
for all direct ancestors, but how much are you willing to spend? Each archive has different
price schedules for
its services.
4) The normal procedure is the archive will notify you with an invoice when the research is
complete. Send
payment by International Money Order, or contact Ruesch International. (See the section:
Sending Money
Overseas--keyword: FindTravel)
5) Always include at least two International Postal Reply Coupons (IPRC's) with your letter.
(see FindTravel )
