FEEFHS seeks your assistance to index microfilm of court records
that may help you in your Saxony ancestral search. See this hot
link to understand why indexing these records are critical - the
key to being able to research Saxony ancestors. If you are
seriously interested, contact the FEEFHS Webmaster
with the name of the Saxony village or location and approximate
dates of interest. "A trip of a thousand miles begins with the
first step".
BARTHOLOMEW, Sally KESMODEL
eMail address: skb111@discoveryonline.com
I am looking for information concerning Frederick KESMODEL, born
1795 at Erfurt, Prussia, and his wife, Martha KESMODEL, born 1810
at Erfurt Prussia. They came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1834 with
2 sons, Frederick KESMODEL Junior, born 1829, Erfurt, Prussia,
and Martin KESMODEL, born 20 May 1830 at Erfurt, Prussia. In
Prussia, Frederick, Senior was a jewelry designer and maker.
They had 2 more sons in America, Gustave, born 1846, and August,
born 1840. Gustave married a lady named Sallie and August
married a lady named Annie. Frederick Jr. learned the trade of
making surgical instruments and cutlery and opened a store in San
Francisco in 1850. He then moved back to Baltimore and opened a
similar business at 104 Park Avenue there in 1872. Martin was
owner and president of the German Fire Insurance Company of
Baltimore, Maryland.

(Congregational)
I am searching for the ancestors of Friedrich Gustav BORMANN,
born 12 April 1861, in Saxony (all records
say only Saxony). Friedrich immigrated to the United States in
1884, and became a naturalized citizen in 1892.
He settled at Turner Junction (now West Chicago), Illinois. On 9
February 1886, Friedrich married Mary
Elizabeth FAESSLER, at Wayne, Illinois, and shortly after their
marriage, the couple settled on a farm near St.
Charles, Illinois. Their marriage license application lists
Friedrich's parents as Karl BORMANN and Christiane
nee BERGER. Friedrich and Mary Elizabeth were members of the
Congregational Church at St. Charles.
Their children, all born at St. Charles, Illinois, were
Christiane Wilhelmina, Melitta Elizabeth, Oscar Frederick,
Alfred Heinrich, Elmer Jacob and Herbert Gustav. At some later
date, the children dropped the second N from
their family name, and from then on, they spelled it BORMAN.
Friedrich (usually called Gus) was a
stonemason by trade. Family stories say that Friedrich had a
brother named Otto BORMANN, who lived in the
southeastern part of North Dakota. This, as yet, is unproven by
me. I have the genealogy from the time
Friedrich settled in Turner Junction, but need information
regarding his ancestors in Germany.
COWLING, P. J. (nee ORLOPP)
eMail address: User377364@aol.com
Maximilian A. ORLOPP signed an oath of intent in Franklin County,
Ohio on 18 November 1848. His oath indicated allegiance to the
Kingdom of Saxony. This name originally was ORLOFF. Family lore
indicated that he was exiled from Russia and Germany at the same
time as Carl SCHURZ. SCHURZ was a leader in the revolution in
Germany of 1848. He arrived in America in 1852. Does anyone
have information on this revolution or either ORLOPP or ORLOFF.
He is my great grandfather. My search does not reveal his
naturalization papers.
CHRONI, Connie

My ancestor, Casper KASHNER, came to the U.S. between 1845 and
1848 from Germany. This is not the proper last name spelling as
I was told. Letters were dropped from his name but I am not sure
what. Casper KASHNER was born 30 October 1816. On the 1890
census it states he was from Saxony His wife was Margaret DIEHL,
born 10 January 1825 in Germany. Thier children born in Germany
were: Elizabeth, born 10 June 1842 and Andrew, born 1 April
1847.
The following names were given to me as possible spellings of his
name in Germany: KAESCHNER, KAESTNER, KARSCHNER, KARSTNER,
KASCHMER, KASCHMIR, KASCHNER, KASTNER, KERSCHNER and KESCHNER. I
am trying to find out exactly where he came from in Germany and
the proper spelling, the boat he came across in, and if there is
any descendants left in Germany for me to notify. I would also
like to try to find out if Casper had any brothers or sisters and
the names of his parents. It seems like I am at a stand still
here, until I can come up with his proper name spelling when he
lived in Germany. If there is any way you can help me it would be
very much appreciated.
(11 December) I have recently found out that the proper spelling
of the name KASHNER is CASPER. If anyone can help me with this
name, it would be a great help. Need to find birth records and
parents names and dates. Also if there were any brothers or
sisters and their dates. The U.S. 1890 Federal census ststes he
was from Saxony, Germany.

I am interested in finding any members of the LUPFERT family in
Saxony. The pedigree ancestor was Jacob Lupfert, born 1690 at
Weidensdorf near Niedereisdorf. His descendants are known until
1905. One branch of the family emigrated to Virginia in 1852,
Franz Julius Lupfert was born 1834. Descendants have been
located at Sonderhausen in Thuringen, Werdau, Grun bei
Langerfelt, Weingrosse, Altenburg, Dennheritz, Meerane, Leipzig,
Frankenau, Breiteslorn, Neidersteinbach bei Pening, Waldenburg
and Weidendsdorf.
Are there any genealogy societies in Saxony who might have access
to records showing the descendants of this family? I would be
much appreciative if you have any inforamtion that would help in
finding any living relatives. Thank you. I have no eMail myself
but you may contact me by eMail through my friend, Carolynn
Knauff Waldon.
Webmaster's Note: Contact the IGS (Immigrant Genealogy
Society) of Burbank
California and arrange for them to do an inexpensive search of
the united Germany telephone book on CD-ROM for your
surname.
DUER, Clara E.

I am researching BLEIER and OBERLANDER / OBERLINDER surnames,
possibly from the Chemnitz, area.
Census and immigration records state only Saxony. Frederick
BLEIER (born 7 May 1803, died 1860?) and
Augusta OBERLANDER / OBERLINDER BLEIER (born 20 May 1805, died 22
December 1886) and sons
Kinder Bleier (born 1830, died 1914) and Louis Bleier (born 1833,
died ?) emigrated to the United States in the
1830's. Their daughter Caroline BLEIER / BLAIR, born 1837 in
Delaware was my great grandmother. Other
U.S. born children of Frederick and Augusta were Francis and
Louisa. The surname was changed from
BLEIER to BLAIR circa the 1850's probably at Allegheny City,
Pennsylvania. My interest is in determining
the family origins in Saxony and their ancestry. I do not have a
computer or access to the Internet or the
Web.

TEICH (Catholics).
Wilhelm Teich was born circa 1830 at Leipzig and Rosina HERBST

DAUTENHAHN, Carl Anton was born 2 February 1845 at (though not
certain born there) Schneeberg, Saxony
Germany. He studied under a Reverend BRUNN before immigrating as
a missionary to America from
Bremerhaven to New York 26 August 1872. In America he studied at
Concordia Lutheran Seminary / College.
He married a Johanna KLITTICH probably in Illinois, maybe where
Concordia is there. He pastored at St.
Lewis Missouri area where 4 of his sons also pastored. One son,
Paul changed his name to DAUTEN. All
Dautenhahn / Dauten in America are related as name is so rare.
It could be same for those in Germany.
Klittich could be same. I would like contact with other
Dautenhahns to be able to trace back further. One
contact in Germany thought the name was practically extinct and
she did not know the origin either.
JENNINGS, Mrs. Ruth

I am seeking information on my great grandmother Auguste
Henriette Johanna Müller,
an actress, probably born circa 1840-1850. She was the unwed
mother of Louis Friedrich
Albert Müller who was born 18 November 1864 in Raguhn,
Saxon-Anhalt who also
became an actor. I have no further details.

I am seeking information about Gottlieb GERHARDT, born at
Dobitschen, Herzogthun, Altenburg in 1812,
died 19 March 1892 at Farmington, Wisconsin. He emigrated in
1848 (ship and ports of departure and entry
unknown), possibly accompanied by younger brother William
Gerhardt, leaving a brother Fredrick in Germany
where he became "an eye doctor who attended the Kaiser". Aboard
ship in 1848 he met SOPHIE
FRITSCHEN, born July 1828 at Reichstadt, Herzogthun, Sachsen,
Altenburg and died 13 Decenber 1890 at
Farmington, Wisconsin. She was emigrating with her parents.
Gottlieb and Sophie married in 1851. I would
like to find Gottlieb's parents, ship and ports of departure and
entry and information on Fredrick Gerhardt.
Thank you for any help or direction.
KASTEN, Ruth GRUNOW
982 North Hills Drive, Cape Girardau, Missouri 63701-8911
Searching for the descendants of Anna Olga Agnes GRUNOW, born 6
April 1864 in Buckau, Germany, baptised 30 May 1864 at St.
Getrauden in Magdeburg, Germany. Witnesses were Henry MUELLER,
Henry HOFERT, Henry EURBECK, Mrs. EGLING, and Mrs. HUTH. Her
father was Carl "August" GRUNOW born 15 July 1837, died 26 August
1873 in Buckau, Germany, a painter and blacksmith, and Christine
Friederike Wilhelmine MULLER born 10 November 1838. Her address
was listed as Karlstrasse 1, Buckau, Germany from 1873-1875. In
1874 she married Wilhelm Albert OPPERMAN. In 1881 Chistiane and
Wilhelm lived at Helberstadt, Germany.
Anna Olga Agnes GRUNOW's only sibling was Carl Adelbert "Otto"
GRUNOW, born 17 January 1860 at Buckau and died 6 February 1910
at Mishawaka, Indiana. He married Wilhelmina Louise "Sophie"
Steiler on 18 March 1881 at Magdeburg, Germany. Sophie was
born 22 February 1857 in Magdeburg and died 11 November 1928 at
Modesto, California. Otto an Sophie came to the United States in
April 1881 and lived in the South Bend and Mishawaka Indiana
area. I have all the United State genealogy recorded for the
Grunow family in the United States and a family reunion is
planned in July 1997. I have been told that the Magdeburg church
records are sealed unless your are an immediate family member. I
hope the web will help us find our descendants.
KIRSCH, Karin Marie
eMail address: vakarine@evansville.net
I have my great-grandfather's marriage certificate from New York
City in 1885. Ernst Gottlieb QUEITZSCH stated that he was born
in Machern bei Leipzig (about 1860) and that his parents' names
are August Queitzch and Wilhelmine SCHUBERT. I haven't been able
to find any records at the LDS library to help me confirm this -
can anyone help me find records for this Queitzsch / Schubert
family?
Webmaster's Note: Very few microfilms of Saxony church
records exist due to opposition from church leaders there.
However Saxony court records are in the public domain and a GSU
(Genealogical Society of Utah = FHL) filming project started
several years ago. My cursory review of the FHL 17th edition of
the CD-ROM catalog (FHLC) indicates that the court records of
most if not all of the county (Kreis) seats in Sachsen Provinz
(Saxony Province) have been microfilmed (some other parts of
Saxony are not in the catalog yet). Thus I expect the court
records for Machern (which was not a county seat) may have been
filmed and might now be available.
I suggest you check the Meyer's Ortslexikon and obtain the name
of the Kreis for this place. That will be where the films will
be found it they exist. However I did not see Machern as one of
the several suburbs listed under the 7 collections of Leipzig
court records in the FHLC. You may need to retain a professional
genealogist to solve your problem.
LANDON, Ruth
1790 Bellevue Way, North East, Bellevue, Washington 98004-2856,
U.S.A.
I am searching for the family, descendants and ancestors of
Julius Alexander KRIEG, born 1824 at Magdeburg, Germany. His
wife was Friederike POTEAU (or POTIOT ?), born 1832 at Leipzig.
They emigrated to New York prior to 1850. The arrived in
California by ship, via crossing the Isthmus of Panama with their
seven children, the eldest being 18 years of age. Any
suggestions or help will be appreciated. Sorry, I do not have
access to eMail.
Webmaster's Note: Lack of knowledge of the religion or the
years of emigration to New York and California limits suggestions
on the parents. The lack of children's names hampers the ability
to locate their birthplace in Germany using the Foreign Voters of
California database. It is suggested you research your
surname in the Die
Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen Volkes
LAUN, Carol

eMail address: claun@worldnet.att.net
Heinrich Bernhardt LAUN was born at Mittelhausen (Thuringen or
Saxony) Germany 3 October 1801. He
married Friederike Johanna SCHWARZNAU who was born 1 April 1801
at Wandersleben (Thuringen or
Saxony) Germany. Both villages are near Erfurt. They had 8
children, probably all born at Mittelhausen.
Heinrich Bernhardt LAUN was a "Tischlermeister" or master cabinet
maker. I have a copy of a contract when
he sold his property in Mittelhausen in 1855. The entire family,
including 2 married daughters and their
children, emigrated to America in 1855. I am looking for the
marriage of LAUN and SCHWARZNAU
probably around 1825. Also for their parents, siblings,
grandparents and back as far as possible. I have
written in German to the churches at Mittelhausen and
Wandersleben and enclosed international reply coupons,
but have received no reply. I am looking for information in
Germany. I have all information in USA.

I am looking for the surname PIRL which is originally from Halle,
Germany. They emigrated to the USA

FRanz arrived. The emigrated via Hamburg.
They settled in Union City, (then called Union Hill) New Jersey.

trucks, La France & Cadillac. Otto was probably cabinet maker.
Martha married a John LEWIS born in New

born Germany 1840-1850 ? Any help
appreciated. I cannot find the name Pirl anywhere! It is
possibly shortened, but no knowledge of this Know
the family of Pirls came from Halle. Is these a way I can get

My grandfather was Ernst Paul STROBELT, born at Steinpleiss, by
Werdau, Saxony Germany in July 1878.
He married Emile Meta MEHLHORN from Bockau, (near Eibenstock).
Locations surrounding a very small
areas are where both of this families come from cities such as
Zwickau, Langenhess, Ruppertsgrun,
Falkenstein, Stangengrun, Unterheinsdorf, Blaunethal, Neustadt,
Sosa, Wildenthal and Shoenheide. A few of
the family surnames are BOTTIGER (BOETTCHER / BÖTTCHER this
name has multiple spellings)
FUESTEL / FÜSTEL, PAMPEL, ROTHEL, LENCK, KUPFER, DRESSEL,
BLANCK, WOLFF,
WEIGEL, FLACH, SEIGEL, BRUCKNER, SCHUBERT, SHOENFELDER /
SHÖNFELDER, to name
only a few. It has been my experience that these people did not
move much from a general locality, and the
names will interlink throughout the generations. I am looking to
find others who might be working in this
general area. I have three German data bases, about 2000 names
from from Grandfathers line, about 450
names from his wifes line and also another 10,000 names that were
from the village of Stangengrun--of which
9,200 over a 400 year period were related in one way or another.
There were several connections to direct
lines of my grandfather. I have found through LDS records, on
fringe lines a few of these names and have had
my own researcher, and one from grandfather many years ago so I
am reasonably positive of the reliabilty of
my data. If any one else is working in this area, please
contact me.

I am seeking information on Johann Gottlieb JOCKISCH, born
Crostau, Saxony 5 November 1771. He
emigrated to the United States in December 1834 and died in
Illinois in 1835. I
am looking for the names of his parents so I can link him to the
remainder of the family that
stayed in Germany.
OBENAUF, Bill
eMail address: billobe@juno.com
(Lutheran in Germany)
I am looking for additional information on Traugott Glaubegott
Furchtegott OBENAUF, born 28 September
1828 at Gera (Ronneburg or Trebnitz), Saxony, Germany. According
to the "Cotton Planter"
ships passenger list, he arrived at New York, New York on 15 May
1847, a rope maker. He attended the First Congregational Church
of Etna (present name) located in Etna, Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania. In 1852 the name was The Independent German United
Evangelical Church of Etna. He died 5 May 1901 at Etna and is
buried at Etna cemetery. His wife was Maria Magdalena MORLOCK,
daughter of Georg Jacob MORLOCK. She was born 7 August 1834 at
Etna, they were married 11 April 1852 at Etna and she died 23
June 1887 at Etna. They had eight children.
Traugott's father was Christian Heinrich OBENAUF born 9 October
1798; arrived at New York 10 July 1854 on the steamer ship
Germania; bought a 290 acre farm at North Lima, Mahoning county,
Ohio 9 August 1854; died 21 October 1858 and was buried at the
Good Hope Lutheran cemetery at North Lima. Traugott's mother was
Christina Marie Emilie SCHMIT, born 23 February 1801 and died 21
August 1834 in Germany. Christian Heinrich OBENAUF was later
married to Eva REICHARDT who died in Germany 9 December 1850.
Christian had four children with the first wife and six with the
second. Eight of his ten children came to America. Christian's
father was John (Johann) Heinrich OBENAUF, born 15 January 1770
and died 14 January 1837. Christian's mother was Anna Rosena
GERHART, born 1773 and died in 1833. These events probably
occurred near Gera, Germany.
Webmaster's Note: Gera is in part of Saxony called
Thüringen. It is within the Grafschaft (county) of Ruess.
In addition to 3 books on historical information about this
county and its military history, the FHL catalog lists an
emigration history of Gera on microfilm #0599774 item 6. The
Evangelische (Lutheran) Churchbook (1607-1752) is on 10 reels of
FHL microfilm. I also suggest you research your surname in the
Die Ahnenstammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes.
PARTHUM, Howard
6875 Quail Street, Arvada, Colorado, 80004, USA
eMail address: HAPe4me@aol.com
I am researching the surname PARTHUM. My ancestor Christian
Eduard PARTHUM was born at Grumbach,
Sachsen, Germany in 1845. He emigrated to Lawrence,
Massachuesetts USA in 1868-69, where he lived until
he died. His father was Johann Samuel Parthum, mother was
Johanna Richter. Johann Samuel Parthum had 6
children, of whom Christian Eduard was the youngest. Other
children were called Friedrich, Henry, Hermann,
Anna, and Katherine. Friedrich lived at Meerane, Sachsen in 1899
(from a letter I have), and Henry, or
Henry's daughter lived at Dresden at that time. I am looking for
any information concerning the birth and
death dates and places for any of the above names. I have looked
at all the FHC microfiche that I can find
pertaining to this area, but have not located the above given
names. From these fiche, I have collected many
occurances of the surname PARTHUM dating to the 1700's, and am
happy to share these with anyone. I am
also collecting any information concerning this surname, as there
are three separate family groups in the USA
which all came from the same area of Saxony, and many more
families in Germany. I am in contact with
members of both the other family groups in the USA, as well as
persons with this surname who
still live in Germany.

STARK, Chris HARZ
eMail address: bbbayou@gte.net
I am seeking information on my g-grandmother, Augusta HEERDO
(HEERDA, HERDA,
HEERDES), born November 1869 in Germany. The family says she
came from Dresden but I have no proof of that. The 1900 US
Census indicates she had immigrated ten years before.
She married Christopher HARZ from Berlin in Hoboken, New Jersey
on 13 September 1890. On the marriage return it indicates she
was 20 years old. Perhaps she came and married
within the same year. I do not know how she came or with whom.
Her parents were Julian HEERDO and Augusta FRANKE. I would like
to document that they were from Dresden, find out their church
and her immigration records to the USA.
Webmaster's Note: Prepare to spend alot of time either at
Salt Lake City or your nearest Family History Center. There are
16 Topics listed for Dresden in the FHL Catalog and 37 microfilm
collections or books are available, including 11 collections of
church records. You have your work cut out for you as both
Dresden and Berlin were and are large cities with multiple
churches.
