FINAL DRAFT INDEX TO FEEFHS NEWSLETTER, VOL. I (1993)

copyright 1994 and 1995 by FEEFHS; all rights reserved

Webmaster's Note: This long index can be searched quickly usuing the "Find" Button on your Netscape or other browser. It works in a simular manner to the search macro in most modern word processors.

This index was prepared by FEEFHS Newsletter Editor John C. Alleman using WordPerfect 5.1. It was first printed and distributed in final form in the spring of 1994. It is an everyname index to the four issues of the first volume of the FEEFHS Newsletter that appeared during the calendar years 1992 and 1993.

A large number of citations in this index were discovered to have been lost or corrupted during transmission as e-mail packets from Salt Lake City Utah to Davis California over the Internet. Because of several requests from record searchers, it was first offered as a *Working Draft Index* last week.

This past week an effort was made to restore this file to its original condition. It is now thought to be better than 99% accurate. Accordingly it has been renamed a *Final Draft Index* to Volume 1 of the FEEFHS Newsletter. Any additional corrections will be added on request. A second proofing is needed against the original printed index.

A WORD OF CAUTION FOR GERMANIC AND EAST EUROPEAN GENEALOGISTS: In searching for a reason why "chunks" of text *mysteriously disappeared* somewhere east of here in the Sierras, the Great Basin of Nevada or the Great Salty Lake, this editor was struck by the strong correlation between the presence of "rich" text in those chunks. Virtually every one of them contained citations using one or more multinational characters such as umlauts and other diacritical marks in German, Polish and Czech. The correlation was almost 100%.

I have learned my lesson with this database e-mailing problem. In the future for the FEEFHS home page, this webmeister will require that any files containing such characters shall either be snail mailed to me on disk or have all the characters removed and replaced with English approximations. This might be something that others should pay attention to in passing genealogy databases with such characters present. Live and learn.

FEEFHS continues to make efforts to try to see that reprints of this back volume (complete with this index) are available at the major libraries and archives world-wide. If the FEEFHS Newsletter issue you seek is not found at a library near you, a printed copy of the Volume 2 with Index (Reprint) can be purchased from FEEFHS.

To purchase Reprints of FEEFHS Volume 1 Newsletter with Index: For US and Canadian addresses, please send a check made out to FEEFHS for US$5.00 (postpaid). For overseas addresses send US$6.00 (postpaid surface) to P. O. Box 4327, Davis, CA 95617-4327. Please be sure to specify you wish Volume 1. (Volume 2 Reprint is also available for the same price.
