ANDERSON, Dorothy
eMail: dota@turbonet.com

My great-grandparents were born near Semic, (Slovenia-Austria) probably in some small village. GGrandf. was Michael IVETZ / IVATZ--Americanized to EVITS. He was born about 1837; served for 9 years in Austrian Army--was still in army in 1866. Gr.grandmother born about 6 August 1847--probably from same village. Her maiden name was KAMBIC/KAMBITSCH. How can I possibly find records to document what little I know. They did not read or write English. Nothing was written about their pre-U.S. early lives. They were married in U.S. on 20 November 1876 in Idaho Territory. I have marriage record, homestead and citizenship record of Michael. It states he was born in "Austria". Would appreciate any help in researching this family.

I am doing research on my IVEZ / IVERZ and KAMBITZH / KAMBITSH families who were from Omota. I want to know what type of village Omota is; How do people earn a living; also why are there 3-4 or more variations on the spelling of the name in the same village. I recently had several rolls of microfilm of Slovenian Records for the "Gottschee" area. I would be willing to share information about these if anyone is interested. I am interested in exchanging information with anyone having the names IVETZ / IVEZ and KAMBIZH in their ancestral tree in Slovenia. Thanks.

BABUDER, Pam
eMail: PB070685@aol.com

I am searching for ancestors of August BABUDER (Materija, Slovenia) Died 1995-97.
Thank you.

BITERMAN, Aaron
eMail: JewishCo1@aol.com

(Roman Catholic)

I am attempting to find information on my family who emigrated from Austria c.1911. The mother originally came from Slovenia, and went to Austria (Steirmark province) for an unknown reason. Here is what a brief family tree looks line on my Slovenian line, and then stemming into Austria and Wisconsin. Descendants of Ignatz Vehovar:

1. Ignatz Vehovar b: in Slovenia
... +Antonia (unknown surname) b: in Slovenia m: in Slovenia
......... 2. Antonia Vehovar b: 25 Nov. 1885 in Pekre, Slovenia; d: 25 Jun. 1956 in Milwaukee, WI
............. +Joseph Marsel b: 21 Feb. 1887 in Austria d: 1926 in WI
......... 2. Josephine Vehovar b: 1893 in Pekre, Slovenia; d: 1929 in Milwaukee, WI
............. + (unknown) Salatnik
......... 2. Christina Vehovar b: in Pekre, Slovenia
............. + (unknwon) Vidic

Most of the above is oral family tradition passed down from my great-grandmother. I am hoping that somewhere, somehow, I can find out about these people -- not only their names and dates (which are vital!) -- but also their personalities, reasons for emigrating, and occupations. I believe the village was Pekre, Slovenia, near Lubljana, Slovenia. Again, this is oral tradition; not from record sources. I believe my family came to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My female ances tor, Antonia Vehovar (Marsel) was a tavern owner, I believe. She owned a hotel, as well, I believe. She invited many homeless and underpaid poverty people to come to her hotel, and fed them, etc. The family was Roman Catholic. Thanks.

CASTLEFORD, John
eMail: cti@leicester.ac.uk or jcastleford@netscape.net

(Roman Catholic)

I seek information about Joseph (?Josip) POJE, born c. Feb 1901, possibly in Prose (?) in what was then Austria. A Roman Catholic with associations in or near Lubljiana, he was a widower whose father was believed to be Abraham and mother Maria. He was a civil servant who was forced to work in Germany during WWII . During WWI he may have been in the Jugoslav Cavalry. He left Jugoslavia in c. 1948 for England. Any information or leads gratefully received. Thanks.

CORDEAU, Elizabeth
Vancouver, BC, Canada
eMail: ecordeau@direct.ca

I am searching the families: ANZELC (ANZELJC), KRASOVEC and PATERNAST. My mother is Franciska (Frances) ANZELC, born in Gora, Slovenia on 25 May 1927. Her father was Franz ANZELC, born in Studenec on 24 March 1904. His parents were Janz Anzelc and Ursula PATERNAST, whose birthdates I do not know. Her mother was Paulina KRASOVEC, born in Gora on 2 May 1905. Paulina's father was Fortuenet KRASOVEC. My mother and grandmother sailed to Canada aboard the "Ausonia II" in 1934. I understand that my grandfather Janz lived and worked in Denver, Colorado, and Cleveland, Ohio, and that we have several relatives in the Cleveland area. We don't have too much information other than that. Can anyone provide any information on any of these people, or their ancestors? Many thanks.

CUK, Susan
eMail: scuk@magiclantern.ca

Trying to find relatives with the last name of ROZMAN. My mother's first name was Sylvia. She was born in Maribor in 1934 and immigrated to Canada in 1957.

DVORSAK, James
eMail: jimbob00@bellsouth.net

Searching for any information about Anton DVORSAK, born 16 January 1889 in Berzice, his father George DVORSAK and mother Rose LAPUH and any siblings. Thank you.

GLAVACH, Steven
eMail: sglavach@inil.com

I am searching for information on the GLAVACH family. My great grandfather Andrew GLAVACH and his brother Joseph GLAVACH came to the United States around 1906. Andrew Glavach was born 27 November 1889 in we believe Crensovci, Slovenia. I am trying to determine any information on Andrew, his parents, and his siblings. I am also looking for any information relating to his voyage to America (Ship Name, Port, etc...) We have some unverified information that his father was John GLAVAC' and his mother was Marija CULIC'. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

GORUP, Albert
eMail: gorup@aol.com

ANTON GORJUP (GORUP, GORYUP) Looking for information on Anton GORJUP, born 15 October 1888. Died 25 February 1970. Declaration of Intention says he immigrated from JMEJCA, STEREN, AUSTRIA on July, 1910. He married Mary ROSENBERGER on 11 January 1919. On his marriage licence, Anton claims that his father & mother are Anton GORJUP and Mary PRESKOVE. Mary's father & mother are Urh ROSENBERGER and Francesca SUSTARICH.

Anton spent his entire life in the U.S. in Calumet, Michigan. Mary was born in the U.S. Family lore has it that Anton, Urh, and Francesca come from the same town. Family lore has it that my grandfather Anton only socialized with the other Slovenians in Calumet, so I was hoping that a query in a Slovenian site would generate the response I'm looking for. The 1920 Census has Anton claiming to be from Yugoslavia and his native tongue is Slovene. Same census has Urh claiming to be from Austria and native tongue is Slovanian. Family lore has it that Anton has (at least) 7 borthers, and his father had (at least) 7 brothers. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any of Anton's bothers. It was rumored that Anton immigrated with a brother that stayed in Milwaukee, but I have been unable to verify his
existance. Thanks in advance for any insight.

HERVET, Herb
Mobile, Alabama
eMail: Hhervet@aol.com

I am trying to research my grandfather, Anton HROVAT who arrived in New York aboard the "Kaiser Wilhelm 1", on 15 January 1894 and resided in Beadling, Pennsylvania. I think his former residence in Europe was Evingston, Austria. The family name now is HERVET. How can I trace Anton Hrovat after he arrived in New York? Thanks.

HRASON, Joseph E.
eMail: JEH412486M@aol.com

Being 100 % Slovenian, we are interested in finding the ship records for "Ile deFrance" & "Chicago" in the respective years of 1924/1925 & 1920/1921. We are looking for passengers of 'Mary UREK' and Joseph HRASEN / HRASON. Any manifests in regard to these passengers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

JACKSON, M. Dean
eMail: jackson@isoc.net

My interest is in locating the birth records of Rosa BOLDISCHAR and Louis Paul ALT. She is supposed to have been born on 28 August 1858 in Vienna. Her parents are said to be Joseph BOLDISCHAR and Rosa CZERNY. I have no documentation to confirm this family information. Rosa BOLDISCHAR left Austria abt. 1900 arriving through I believe New York. She died in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She apparently had an intimate relationship with Louis Paul ALT, from Maribor (Marburg), Slovenia in abt. 1888 in Vienna. He according to census records arrived in the US in 1890. He died in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Thank you for your help.

KOZAR, John
eMail: JKOZAR1234@aol.com

Thank you.

MITCHOPOULOS, Tricia SKERIANZ
eMail: Cavallaro.Michopoulos@onaustralia.com.au

I am interested in communicating with anyone who may have information on: Eugenio SKERIANZ who married Guiditta KOVAC. They had two sons Walter Peter dob 13 February 1928 and Eugene dob 2 November 1934 at Aidussina (Ajdovscina Slovenia). I believe that Guiditta owned wood mills on the outskirts on Grozia which was lost after the war. Both sons immigrated, Walter to Australia and Eugene to US in 1955. Other than the above there is little known of the family. I am in the process of requesting copies of vital records and hope to have further information to report shortly.

I'm looking for info on my gg grandfather Martin SUKLJE (1844?-1920). Martin came to the US in 1890, apparently without wife Maria (did she die?) and settled in New Castle Pennsylvania. Between 1897-1903, the three daughters came over in separate trips as well as Martin's second wife, Katarina GRSIC / GRCIC ? SUKLJE. Martin and Katarina the wife had five more children in New Castle - Anna, Sophie, Joseph, Louis, and Frank. We are trying to identify their area of origin. Also I am wondering if their names might have already been Americanized, and what the original name was. I am looking for information on my grandfather, Anthony ZADNICK, who was from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Of course when he came to the U.S. he identified himself as an Austrian. I don't know if that would complicate a search. He disapeared the week of 14 October 1914, which coincided with the surrender of Austria. I was told he returned to his other family in Ljubljana. I am told that the ZADNICK surname is rare, at least it is in the U.S. Please let me know what options I have on the Web. Thank you.
