your search.
- List all place names that are important to your search if
you know them.
- Include all surnames you are searching or have information

My aunt has done extensive research on our Hungarian family
ancestry, but has run into dead-ends. My
grandmother was Maria LENCSES, born around 1889 at Szaraz Berek,
Hungary, which later became Bercu,
Romania. My grand-father was Imre BABICSAK, born circa 1880 at
Mehtelek (Szatmar county), Hungary. I
recently made the on-line discovery of a young baseball player in
Hungary by the name of Bence Babicsak. I
was able to connect to the web-site for POTE Fakezuek Baseball
Club, and actually found a photograph of this
young man (a team roster picture). However, there was no other
information about him and all my efforts, so
far, to connect to any of e-mail address related to the baseball
league/club, have been unsuccessful. So, I have
not any more about this person other that he exists and he is
young (20-25 by look of his photo) and he plays
baseball for the team I mentioned. My aunt has not found any
other Babicsak families in the United States, but
she does know that her father, my grandfather, had one Uncle who
came to America for a time, made a sum of
money, then returned to Hungary. Possibly (probably) this Bence
Babicsak is a second (or more distant) cousin
to me. Another surname that we are searching for info. on is
BUCS. Any help from anyone will be greatly
appreciated.
BERNATH, Janice HOLLENCZER
eMail address: JBern68078@aol.com
I'm researching the HOLLENCZER and related families of Gyarmath,
Gyor county. I've had great luck with
the records as far back as 1863, but nothing is >indexed for the
years before. Would anyone know if
Gyarmath's Roman Catholics were included with those of another
nearby town prior to 1863? I know they
might not be indexed as such, because the few towns included with
Gyarmath after 1863 are not indexed at the
LDS centers (the town of Csikvand being an example). Thanks in
advance for any assistance of
suggestions.
Doug Holmes Note: I just confirmed the dates of 1863 to 1895
for Gyarmat, Gyor county as correct for
what the LDS has on microfilm. I thought maybe the village just
started its parish then, but checking an 1851
reference I see almost 2000 Catholics living there then. So
either the records are lost or the LDS didn't film
them all. Write to the Orszagos Leveltar in Budapest and ask
them if records older than 1863 exist or were
they lost. Good luck.
BISSO, Thomas

My grandparents and some of their brothers and sisters came to
America from Torontal County, Torontal
vasarhely, Hungary, which is now the town of Debeljaca,
Yugoslavia. I would like to find out more about
them; other brothers and sisters, parents and their descendants
living in Hungary or Yugoslavia. Who in
Hungary or Yugoslavia do I contact about obtaining microfilm of
the town they came from between 1870 to
1900. My grandfather was Mihaly (Michael) LADI or possibly
LAGYI. He was born 4 May 1879. He was
naturalized 1910 in United States, lived at St Louis, Missouri,
where he died 7 December 1948. My
grandmother, Roza CSALA was born 30 August 1884, she died 14
October 1968. They where married in
Hungary before they emigated to America between 1900-1910.
My great-uncles who came to America between 1900 -1910 are Samu
(Samuel) LADI or LAGYI (who returned
to Hungary during the 1920's) and Istvan (Steven) LADI or LAGYI,
born 1875 or 1876, died in 1928 at St
Louis, Missouri. He was married in Hungary to Marie BARZSA, who
was born in 1884. My two great-aunts
that came to America between 1900 - 1915 are; Sophie (Sophia) who
died in 1974 and Rachel LADI or
LAGYI. My grandmother had a sister, Katarine SZABO, in Hungary
who would write her until the late
1960's. Katarine had a son and a daughter. This is all the
information I have at present of my mothers family.
I would appreciate any help in obtaining more.

I am looking for information about my maiden name which is DOZSA.
I am interested in hearing from people
with that last name. This is what I know: my grandfather's name
was Andras DOZSA. His wife's name was
Julianna. He died in 1946 or 1947. They had two children my
father Sandor DOZSA and Maria DOZSA.
They came from the Szod, Csorg and Vac area. My father SANDOR

without a religion and more details about the birth and marriage

I am researching my fathers line. His fathers name was Andrew
BOROCHANER and was one of 10 children.
His grandfather's name is unknown to us, but he came from Hungary
to Pennsylvania about the late 1890's.
Also his mothers name was Jennie KRIEGER. Her parents were Simon
KRIEGER and Sarah ?. Both of these
families came from HUNGARY. My great-grandfathers and
great-grandmothers were the first generations to
emigrate to the US. Also like the BOROCHANER'S, the KRIEGERS
emigranted to Pennsylvania. Any
information would be helpful.

My grandfather was Martin WEISS, born in Hungary 15 June 1898.
He came to the US about 1904. His father was William WEISS who
may have been born in Russia. His mother was Bertha (surname
unknown). Martin WEISS lived in Phildelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
and moved to Miami, Dade County Florida. He worked as a sewing
machine repairman and also was an inventor, with many US patents.
My mother was born Wilma Ralphyne WEISS 12 July 1942 at
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Miami, Florida about 1944
where she was raised. My mother can't help me with dates and
places other then what I have here. My father was Jesse James
LINDSAY born 7 October 1937 at Arcadia Florida. Can anyone help

where my grandfather and g-grandfather were born and what

email address; memagyar@erols.com
I am interested in corresponding with anyone about the people
listed below:
Hajdu-Bihar megye, city of Debrecen, Hungary
Surname: BARTUCZ, NAGY
Michael BARTUCZ, born 18 September 1879, was my paternal
grandfather from Debrecen. He was a barber
in the Hungarian Army. When he read in a newspaper that he was
declared dead he deserted a wife and the
army and fled to the U.S. around 1900. With his uncommon name,
he feared that he would be easily found out
so he changed his name to Charles NAGY. He became a coal miner
in West Virginia but finally settled in the
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.
Zemplen megye, Hungary
Village of Bodroghalasz/Sarospatak
Surname: MENYHERT, KIS, TOTH
Elizabeth MENYHERT was the daughter of Joseph MENYHERT and
Zsuzsanna KIS of Bodroghalasz.
Elizabeth was forced to marry Sandor TOTH and they had a son,
Sandor but she deserted them for Michael
BARTUCZ. She emigrated to the U.S. around 1905 and it's not
clear if she and Sandor both came. Elizabeth
and Charles sent for young Sandor to come to the U.S. and join
them in West Virginia when he was about 19
years old. Young Sandor later settled in New York City.
Elizabeth had a younger brother, Istvan
MENYHERT, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1907. Their mother,
Zsuzsanna KIS MENYHERT, later came to
the U.S. as Joseph had died prior to 1907. They both settled in
West Virginia. I have been searching church
and army records at the LDS church and ships' passenger lists and
have only found Istvan.
Village of Sintava near Sered and Bratislava, Slovakia
Surname: YVOTECH, PASTUCHA
My maternal grandmother, Antonia T. YVOTECH, was born 25 October
1884 or 1885. She was from the
village of Sintava and worked as a housekeeper in a castle in
Sered, probably. She sailed to the U.S. from
Bremen, Germany in 1902 or 1903. It is said she celebrated her
15th birthday on the boat so some dates are in
question. She settled in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. I
have not been able to find her on a ship's
passenger list. Two weeks after arriving, she married John
PASTUCHA who had worked as a cobbler in a
castle in Slovakia, possibly the one in Sered.
I am also interested in corresponding with anyone who can help me
with interpreting the Greek letters on my
Hungarian great grandmother's headstone: She was Zsusanna KIS,
born about 1851 and last lived at
Bodroghalasz, Sarospatak, Zemplen megye. She married Joseph
MENYHART and had two children, Jozsef
and Erszebet. They all emigrated to the USA at different times.
Zsusanna was buried in West Virginia in 1945
and her cement headstone is in the form of a Fourchee Cross.
There are barely legible Greek letters on
the cross. The best I can read on the first line is: ??, U,
Delta, Omicron, Epsilon, Iota, Alpha, Eta, Sigma,
Kappa, Omicron, U, Lambda, Omicron, a narrow S, Alpha, Pi, C. I
would appreciate some help with this and
then maybe I can decipher the second line.

Joseph MESZES was born 9 January 1899 in Hungary and died
December 1964 at Burgaw, North Carolina.
His brother Frank Meszes was born 12 July 1901 and died May 1982
in Kentucky. Julia BUSHA Meszes was
born 7 February 1899 in Hungary and came to the US with her
sister Katie. Julia died 17 April 1993 at
Hampstead, North Carolina. As far as where they entered the US
it must have been Ellis Island. Don't really
know. They moved several times before settling at Burgaw, NC. I
know they lived in Kentucky, and West
Virgiania, and Joseph Meszes worked in the coal mines,
contracting black lung disease. Again, thank you for
any help you can give.
REISMAN, David
email address: REISMAN@wnet.org
(Orthodox Jewish)
I am researching my father's side of the family, and am trying to
find information on his aunts, who survived
World War II, as well as information on his great grandparents.
My father's grandfather was named Saul
REISMAN (sometimes also called Samuel), born 1859 (?) at Cziroka
Bela, Zemplen County, Hungary (now
Bela nad Cirochou, Slovakia); died 1937 (?), at Bekescsaba,
Hungary. He married Maria STERN. She was
born 1859 (?) at Korosladany, Bekes County, Hungary and died 1935
(?), at Bekescsaba. I believe that the
REISMANs were members of the Orthodox Jewish synogogue at
Bekescsaba.
Saul REISMAN's parents were Solomon and Fani REISMAN. The family
moved from Zemplen County to
Bekescsaba, Hungary in the 1860s. Saul had two sisters, Zseni
(married to Mor DIAMANT/GYEMANT) and
Etel REISMAN, as well as a brother, Sigmond REISMAN. Zseni and
Mor GYEMANT had a daughter named
Etel in 1885. Maria STERN's brother was Adolf STERN; her
sister-in-law was Berta (LEIPNIK) STERN.
Saul REISMAN was a merchant at Bekescsaba in the 1890s and early
1900s, and may have owned a
tavern.
Among Saul and Maria's children were Izrael/Isidore REISMAN, born
2 September 1887 at Bekescsaba,
Hungary, died 1948 at Monticello, NY; and Hilel/Harry REISMAN,
boen 29 June 1893 at Bekescsaba,
Hungary, died 1950 at Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Saul and Maria
had two other children born after 1895 that
stayed in Eastern Europe and survived to adulthood, daughters
whose first names and married names are
unknown to me. Harry REISMAN, my grandfather, was married in
1916 to Frieda FEUERMAN, whose
family came from Felsoabrany, Hungary (now Bukkabrany, in Borsod
County). Frieda REISMAN died in
1956. Her parents were Herman FEUERMAN and Mary SCHWARTZ.
Isidore and Harry REISMAN emigrated to the US in 1907 and became
American citizens. Saul REISMAN
traveled with them, but returned to Hungary in around 1908.
Isidore and Harry's sisters survived World War
II, probably in nearby towns in Romania, and emigrated to
Palestine after the war. After a brief
correspondance, my father and uncle lost touch with them in the
1950s. My uncle believes one of his aunts
may have been married to a policeman. I am trying to find out
what became of them
and their families.
Since my father's aunts were born after 1895 and I don't know
their names, I can't find information on them
via microfilm research through LDS Family History centers. I
don't think contacting the Hungarian Embassy
for these records will work out, since I don't know the aunts'
first names or married names. Are census
records for Hungary from 1900, 1910, and 1920 available to
researchers from some other source? Are there
any other sources of information that may be helpful, given that
I have so little to go on? Also, are Jewish
records from Bela nad Cirochou available for the period
1830-1870, so I can get more
information on my great-great grandfather?

I am researching the family of Anton DORNER born 2 January 1859
at Molifalva, Hungary, to Tom Nick
DORNER, mother's name unknown. Anton came to U.S via Bremen,
Germany on the ship "Koln", arriving at
Baltimore, Maryland April 1902. He brought with him his wife
Francesca MELLEN and the following children
all born in Molifalva, Hungary; George, Elizabeth, Math, Tom, and
Michael. The family later removed to
North Dakota, where Franceska comitted suicide 27 May 1907, and
Anton died of Spanish Influenza, December
1918 along with his youngest son Joseph who was born after the
family emigrated to the United States.
Trying to verify births of Anton and Franceska in Hungary and

(1804-1853) are on one reel of microfilm - FHL #1190334. You
might also check out the Schwabish line of the
Dorner family in the surname search section of the FHL
Catalog.

I am interested in finding any information on the following
individuals and their families: Charles SKUBA was
born 31 December 1892 in Austria-Hungary. His father was John
SKUBA; his mother was Sophia (Hafia)
CSONKA. His siblings were Pauline SKUBA PAVLINA , Sophia SKUBA
HAFIA, and Maria SKUBA. They
all came from a village named Czorny Potok. His wife, Sophia
CILO was born 12 May 1902 in
Austria-Hungary. Her father was John CILO; her mother was Sophia
HELEBA. Her siblings were George
(Yuri / Yorko), Michael (Mihael), Andrew (Andro), John (Ivan),
and Maria. They also came from a village
named Czorny Potok. Charles SKUBA and Sophia CILO were married

I am researching Kaspar DENICH, born in Arad, St. Martin, Hungary
1885. He came to the USA in 1910. I
believe he was in the Hungarian Army and or Cavalry. I don't
know anything about his parents or Arad St.
Martin. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am also
searching for Victor STEIRER was married at
Miletitsch, Hungary to Regina HAAS in 1880. My g-grandfather
Victor was born in 1852, possibly at Halas,
Hungary. I don't know who his parents are or even where he came
from for sure, the notation in the records
goes Steirer, Victor + 23.4.1917. 65 J. aus Halas? * 1852. Any
information on how I could access records for
Halas in the 1850's would be appreciated; also any info on the
Steirer's. Thanks
Webmaster's Note: Denich and your other surnames are
Germanic. Arad Sankt Martin was a small
Germanic Banat town about 17 miles north of a larger town of Arad
(Arad is shown on the Banat map in the
FEEFHS map room). FHL microfilm is available for your town and
the Banat FAQ and the history of
the Banat on this website might help
you.
A free translation of the Steirer notation above is "Victor
STEIRER, died 23 April 1917 age 65 years at Halas?,
born 1852". There are FHL microfilm records for Halaszi Hungary
(1740-1895, 3 reels) but nothing for Halas
per se. Should you be interested in the ancestors of Regina
HAAS, there is an Ortsippenbuch of Miletitsch,
Hungary available at the FHL in Salt Lake City and Roman Catholic
churchbook (1826-1895) microfilm (4
reels).
