Suggestions for a more effective AMRL
message:
- ***Capitalize all surnames.***: Example: MEGERIAN,
Audrey
- State your problem succinctly.
- Avoid cryptic messages - use words and statements that
clarify.
- Include all relevent data: surnames and important dates of
your search.
- List all place names that are important to your search if
you know them.
- Include all surnames you are searching or have information
on to share with others.
- Avoid forms and tables; using one line of text per person is
preferred.
- Remember all unique words of your message are indexed by our
search engine.
- Provide Susan a mailing address if you do not have an eMail
address.
- Review your message periodically; then revise, extend and
refine it.
- Advise Susan if or when your eMail address or postal
address changes.
- Encourage other Armenia researchers you encounter to post
here too.

ABAJIAN-BROWN, Megan
eMail address: MAbajian-Brown@msn.com
I am trying to trace my family history and find current
relatives. My great-grandparents Mesrob ABAJIAN and Vartanoush
YAKUBIAN? immigrated to New York in 1905 from Sivas Turkey.
They came with three children Anna (born in Sivas), Helen, and
Vinnie (or Vincent) ABAJIAN. My grandfather Edward ABAJIAN was
the first born in America in 1914. Anna ABAJIAN, or Ann, married
Bedros NORHADIAN who shortened the name to NORHAD. Bedros
NORHADIAN had two brothers. Bedros survived the genocide and
made his way to France. Helen ABAJIAN married Jack YAKUBIAN and
had children Virginia and Leo. Vinnie ABAJIAN had a son named
Bobby. Some how Lily JACUZIAN is in the mix. Any information is
appreciated and I hope to find some family out there.
ACCACIAN, William
eMail address: baplant@aol.com
I am beginning a study for my family name which is ACCACIAN.
My great-grandmother, Maria ACCACIAN, gave birth to my
grandfather, Pietro, at Cuorgue Italy (Torino) in 1882.
Pietro ACCACIAN immigrated to America and lived in Minnesota,
Wisconsin and California. He was married to Teresa DIERO, and
they had seven children; William, Victoria, Josephine, Lena and
Edward. I am searching for this name in northern Italy or
Armenia. Thank you for any information.
AVEDIKIAN, Genevieve Yolande
eMail address: genlacey@hotmail.com
I am looking for my father Jan AVEDIKIAN. In 1964 he left
Chiswick, London, England. He was born about 1930 at Haifa,
Israel after his family left Armenia en route to Cyprus. My
mother's maiden name was BILLINGHAM. They were married in
England. They had three children: Johanna Esther AVEDIKIAN, born
12 January 1960; GenevieveYolanda AVEDIKIAN, born 4 January
1961; and YervantMark AVEDIKIAN, born 15 September 1962. Jan's
maternal family, Charles and Mary CHILINGIRIAN, were my brother's
godparents. This family ran a few businesses at Nicosia, Cyprus.
Please e-mail with any help or information.
I thank you.
BOWLER, Ruth ARVANIAN

eMail address: bowlerr@sau25.net
I am looking for my Armenian relatives. My grandfather was born
Kevork S. ARVANIAN at Malatya, Armenia, sometime in the late
1800's. My grandmother was born Tervez (not sure of spelling)
KURKJIAN. She was born at Harpoot, Armenia and escaped the
massacres of the late 1800's with her mother. Her mother's name
was Miriam or Mary. My grandmother lost contact with her
brothers when she and her mother ran to a British fort near their
home. She was hidden rolled up inside a rug in a trunk. She and
her mother stayed in England briefly, eventually immigrating to
America, through Ellis Island. My grandmother married Kevork
ARVANIAN sometime prior to 1902. My father, William Albert
ARVANIAN was born at Paterson, New Jersey in 1902. They
eventually settled at Revere, Mass. Somehow my grandmother found
her brothers, who were furriers in Boston, and my grandmother
worked for them stitching linings into the fur coats. Later her
brothers moved to Fresno, California. Their last name would have
been KURKJIAN. I am hoping that there are descendants of these
Kurkjian brothers. I would love to know my Armenian family.
CAVUSOGULLARI, Emre
Toronto, Canada
eMail address: emrec@sympatico.ca
My Grandmother, Rozanna (her first name) was born at Kumayri
(Leninakan), Armenia (probably) in 1912 or 1913. She was the
youngest daughter of her family. Her mother was Elmas (?), her
brothers Gevork, Grikor, and Agop. She might have 2 sisters, as
well. Her father was a businessman. In 1922 / 1923, her family
asked one of their Russian neighbors (a couple with two little
sons), to take Rozanna with them. The couple moved to France,
but she was left at Erzurum, Turkey. Any information would be
most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
CLEMENTS, Louise
Nottingham, United Kingdom
eMail address: dmitry.fedotov@ntlworld.com
My grandmother, Berdjhouie MAZMANIAN, was born in Armenia and
fled with several members of her family to Egypt about 1914 (?).
About 1945, she married Frederick CLEMENTS in Egypt. They moved
to Croydon, United Kingdom (UK). She worked for BritishTelecom.
They had two children - Roger and Brian Clements. I am
Roger's daughter. Her sister was Araxie MAZMANIAN. She lived at
Cairo, Egypt. Hratch and Berj GARABEDIAN went to Cairo with the
Mazmanians, and then to Toronto Canada where they live now. I
am looking for my family's birth place in Armenia, dates that
they left and reasons why they went to Egypt and Canada - from
anyone who knew them.
DESANTO, Sam ATTARIAN
eMail address: ssdesanto@msn.com
I am looking for information on Paul ATTARIAN and his wife,
Arteria ? YESIA. Their son, Petros (Peter) ATTARIAN, was born in
Turkey 15 April 1881. He was married at Cambridge,
Massachuesetts 25 September 1904 to Evangeline SIMONDS, born 1884
in The Azores. Any information on Petros parents would be of
great help.
LEWIS, George FRANCIS

I am searching for more information on my grandparents and their
Armenian ancestors. My grandfather, Charlie BESHARA MAKHAOL
(sp?) FRANCIS (born 1876 in Syria, died 19 November 1935 at
Cleveland, Ohio) and Habuba FARIS HADDAD (born 18 May 1877 at
Areyee, Lebanon; died 11 November 1962 at Salt Lake City, Utah).
They were born in Lebanon when Lebanon was a part of the Turkish
Empire. Presumably two brothers of the family were in the
military (Turkish Army ?), received land as reward for their
service, and moved to Lebanon from elsewhere in the Turkish
Empire. Charlie was probably a merchant, because he travelled
alot. He had a brother (name unknown) who left Lebanon (family
tradition: to avoid military service) for Egypt with him, but his
brother remained in Egypt. Charlie and Hubaba immigrated to the
USA (apparently from Egypt) before their 2nd son, Edward Charles
Lewis (my father), was born 31 March 1902 at Mobile, Alabama;
died 30 May 1976 at Salt Lake City, Utah. Their children
included Edward Charles LEWIS, born 1905 at Mobile, Alabama. His
older brother was George BESHARA LEWIS (born 28 July 1898 at
Sidney, Australia, died 18 September 1949 at Salt Lake City
Utah). He married Celesta SNELL (born 24 June 1905). Family
traditional indicates my middle name, FRANCIS (a French name) is
a family surname, as the French were in Lebanon for a long period
of time. I am seeking information on when Charlie and Habuba
immigrated to the USA (including the port of entry), how the
family surname became LEWIS, and where they came from as
Armenians (Turkey ?). Any and all help will be appreciated.
LINCOLN, Renee

My grandfather's name was Levon Bogosian KASPARIAN. He was born
at Harpoot, Armenia on 16 April 1894. He died 21 February 1988.
His father's name was Kasper Der KASPER. His mother's name was
Aghavni DANIELIAN Der KASPER. I would like to find out more
about his background if possible.
Webmaster's Note: If you included to full name of Levon's
wife and any other genealogy detail you may know, including
his/their religion, it would greatly assist in a successful
conclusion to your search. I note two other researchers are
seeking ancestors from Harpoot and have posted queries on the
AMRL.
MARDINLY, Susan
84 Tavern Circle, Middletown, Connecticut 06457-1561, USA
eMail address: Magdalenamuse@cs.com
My grandmother Toomah HOSHABJIAN (KHOSHABJIAN ?) was born circa
1890 in a village above Diyarbakir, Turkey. She saw her father,
uncles and two older brothers killed in the 1895 raid. The
family was cared for by her father's sister until her mother
remarried a Syrian man. Toomah immigrated to New Jersey,
(possibly through France) in 1905 to marry Bishor (Pshar ?)
MARDINLY. The family also lived at Fresno and Philadelphia.
Bishor, with his brother Ibraham, founded St. Mary's Assyrian
Church at Paramus, New Jersey. Their father Jakob MARDINLY
(MARDENLY) was born circa 1850 at Mardin, Turkey. Toomah's
sister, Anna HOSHABJIAN, born 1893, immigrated to Fresno,
California where she married Charles KASSABIAN. Mihran
HOSHABJIAN. born 1894, immigrated in 1912 to Philadelphia, where
he was co-owner of a dry cleaning business with Hagop
ANTAGLIAN.
MÉNÉVIS, Agnès (MENEVIS, Agnes)
France
eMail address: a.menevis@infonie.fr
I'm looking for informations about my grandfather family who was
Armenian. My grandfather was called Jean MENEVIS (or MENEVISSIAN
?), born in 1904 at Smyrna. His brother, Edouard
MÉNÉVIS, was born in 1906 in Smyrna. His father,
Thomas MÉNÉVIS, was born in 1870 (I assume in
Armenia). His mother, Armenouchi ISKANDERIAN (born in 1880, also
probably in Armenia). They all left Smyrna in 1922, when the
city was in fire and immigrated to France. Armenouchi
ISKANDERIAN, died during the crossing, but Thomas
MÉNÉVIS and his sons lived in France. My
grandfather Jean, never talked about his past and I don't know if
he had another part of family or not. I'm looking for all
information about it.

Alexander BASMAJIAN was born in 1881 in Armenia. Sorry that is
all I know. Thanks again.
Webmaster's Note: It really is too bad that you have
absolutely no idea of when or where he lived or died or anything
else concerning his line - even the name of his wife or any of
his descendants. You have greatly limited the ability of anyone
anywhere to help you.
NORFOLK, Priscilla MOUSHLIAN
eMail address: buffalogal36@alltel.net
My father, Aram Stephan MOUSHLIAN / MOUCHLIAN, was born 14 May
1903 at Moush, Armenia. He immigrated to America in 1920 from
Constantinople, Turkey via Piraeus, Attica, Central Greece, and
Euboea, Greece. The ship was the "Themistocles". He settled at
Buffalo, New York. He married Kay SNYDER, and they had a son,
Duane. When they divorced, the maternal grandparents adopted
Duane. In 1935, my father married my mother, Eleftheria (Liberty)
FALKOS, and they had four children: Priscilla, Cleo, Katherine
and Duane. My father died in 1979. He worked at Allens Rug Mart,
Main Street, Buffalo, New York. He had four sisters of which two
immigrated to America. With him, came his younger sister Araxie,
born 1908, who later married a Hairig (Harry) SEMONIAN. Araxie
died in 1955 at age 47. Aunt Roxie had two children who are
still living: June SEMONIAN AMSDEN and Richard SEMONIAN. June,
now in her 70's lives at Tequesta, Florida and Richard still
lives at Buffalo, New York. The other sister lived at Kenmore,
New York. Their trade was carpet weaving, which they practiced
until their deaths. I found a woman whose maiden name was
Moushlian, who had a boy named Hagop Baboyan in 1983. The child
died in 1989 in Los Angeles, California. I would love to find
the connection between this woman's family and ours. Any
information would be greatfully appreciated.

I am trying to find out as much information as possible on my
great grandfather, Arakel BERBERIAN, born at Arapgir (also spelt
Arapkir and Arabkir). He immigrated to Egypt, where he had a
daughter by name of Isabel Berberian, born on 27 March 1854. I
don't know the name of his parents etc. Can anybody make a
suggestion as to how I can obtain further information?

My grandmother, Seranush (Sally) HOLOPIGIAN, was born in America
in 1908 but was caught in the war in Armenia during a visit to
her grandparents, and was in an orphanage in Turkey. I have a
document written in Armenian and French issued in Constantinople
in 1920. It has numerous stamps from the American Consulate in
Constantinople, the French bureau of Passport Control, Haut
Commissaire Greece. The last stamp is dated 27 January 1921, and
Sally returned to the US soon afterward. I would like
information on the names of ships leaving the Mediterranean for
America between January and March 1921. Her father was Karekin
HOLOPIGIAN, born 1888 at Harpoot / Kharpert, Armenia. Karekin's
brother, named Mesrop HOLOPIGIAN, left Armenia in the 1890's from
Harpoot. Her mother was Marian ASARIAN HOLOPIGIAN, born 1890.
She and Karekin immigrated to the US by 1908. Marian's brothers
were killed (in the Armenian holcaust). I am looking for anyone
named HOLOPIGIAN.

My great-grandfather, Samuel NISCASCHIAN, was born in Eastern
Turkey in the early 1900's. He immigrated to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania (1900-1925?). NISCASCHIAN was changed to NELSON in
the early 1920's. He attended West Philly (Philadelphia) High
School. He immigrated with his mother, brother (Jim?) and a
sister who married a man named TACHIAN. He owned a dry cleaners

I'm trying to find any information about my great grandmother's
brother. His last name was VARDIKIAN. We know that he was owner
of one the theaters at Baku. He left for America from Baku,
Azerbaijan somewhere in 1915-1920. He had an oil business in the
1930's. My great grandmother, Angin VARDIKIAN, died from typhus
not long before he left. Her husband, AMIRKANOV, was killed
during World War I. They had four girls and one boy, raised by
relatives or in orphanages at Baku. Any help will be
appreciated.
