***** 1.0. WELCOME TO THE BANAT LISTSERVER ***** Keyword: FindWelcome

Welcome to the Banat Listserver, an electronic mailing list of researchers interested in their genealogy in the German-speaking people of southeastern Europe referred to as Donauschwaben. The list was founded by Bob Madler at madler@sierra.net in February, 1995 to serve as a forum for help and discussion for those interested in Donauschwaben history, customs, and genealogy. It is now moderated by Chris J. Lamesfield at cjl@mail.tir.com It had grown to over 100 subscribers by the start of 1996.

The only requests we make of new subscribers are to be friendly, helpful and to post a list of names and villages you are researching. People have made many genealogical links because of this list, and it is a credit to the members that they are willing to share their data and experience to those with common interests. Even if you do not find any relatives in this list, it is likely that another reader has already faced and overcome the research problem that you are currently facing. Providing general consulting about the best and fastest ways to accomplish your research goals is one of the most useful services this list can provide.
