One favor I ask of all submitters: I'm getting a lot of email
from people who see this SERL page and then send me questions
about their families, not indicating whether or not the mail is
directed solely at me or whether it is meant to be posted on the
SERL web page. Please put this phrase in your message's subject

BENSHETLER, ERIC
eMail address: Emb0@aol.com
Location: Jahrmarkt
Primary Surnames: BENSCHETLER, BENSHETLER, GREIF
Secondary Surnames: KUMAUS, LUKAS
Location: Billed
Primary Surnames: RIESZ, SCHACKMAN
Secondary Surnames: STICKLE, LAHNI, KESZLER
The BENSHETLER, RIESZ, GREIF, and SCHACKMAN families lived in the
Philadelphia and Maple Shade,
NJ areas in the early 1900s. Most emigrated between 1904 and
1912. Many descendants are still in the
Philadelphia-New Jersey-Delaware area, but others have moved to
Texas, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia. I
recently discovered a "lost" branch which apparently stayed in
Romania and emigrated to Germany and
Australia several years ago.
As of February 1998, I'm gathering as much information as I can
from U.S. records before tackling European
sources. I've heard from a cousin that the BENSCHETLERs were in
Alsace-Lorraine in the early or mid-1800s
before moving to the Banat. I'm very interested in the possible
origins of this unique surname.

I can answer some questions about these, but am usually unable to

My great grandparents were John SCHLEIMER born 1868 and his wife
Fransziska JURASICH (not sure of the spelling) born in 1869.
They were from Deutsch Zerne which is now in Yugoslavia.
Parents: Peter SCHLEIMER and Franacisca ROTHENBACH, Peter
JURASICH and Anna SCHULTZ. Another set of great grandparents
were Jacob VORMITTAG born in 1861 and his wife Rosalie SCHMALTZ
born in 1870. They were from Glogovatz which is now in Romania.
I don't know the parents of Jacob, but Rosalie's were Joseph
SCHMALTZ and Magdalena GEIGER.

Schmidth or Schmich, Anna
My grandmother Anna SCHMIDTH or SCHMICH came to Bridgeport
Connecticut in 1905. She was born in Arad 17 July 1885. She
spelled her name Schmidth, but her brother Jacob spelled it
Schmich. Her father Jacob Schmidth was a judge? in Bucharest?.
She also lived in Temesvar before coming to America. Her husband
was stephen Juhasz. I don't know her mothers last name, her first
name was Anna and she died giving birth to my grandmother. My
grandmothers stepmother came from Fakalhass?
Juhasz, Stephen
My grandfather Stephen JUHASZ came from Arad or Temesvar Hungary
before 1905. His father was Michael and mother Lukza KASS. He
was born 22 August 1870. He had a son from a previous marriage
(Jack?) before marrying my grandmother. He came to Bridgeport,
Connecticut before moving to New Haven Connecticut.

KOENIG, BARBARA
email address: Raabes@aol.com
Looking for information on my grandfather, Charles Louis
KOENIG born in Funfkirchen (Pecs) Hungary in 1865. His father
escaped from Wurzburg, Bavaria in 1840's? or later. I can't find
any record of him in the 7 Roman Catholic microfilms from Pecs.
He immigrated to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1888 but may have
traveled elsewhere in Europe first.
LANG, BOB
eMail address: Bob_Lang@bc.sympatico.ca
I am researching my family name LANG. My fathers records
indicate g grandparents were located in Buljkes
Batschka prior to 1925 as that was when my grandfather Jacob Lang
Sr.and his family emigrated to Canada.
My g grandfathers first name is believed to be Nicholaus and his
wifes Sophia. Any suggestions to further this
search along will be greatly appreciated.
In particular I ask Peter Wenson who posted a message to this
same SERL page in October 1997 please contact
me. I have not been sucessful in using your e-mail address. I am
anxious to compare information as we appear
to have common family tree interests.
MILLER, JEANETTE
eMail address: froukje@sprynet.com
I am starting to examine the family tree on my husband's paternal
grandmother side. Her surname was SIMEON and she was from the
city of PANCEVO, near Belgrade. She and her 5 siblings, and
possibly her parents emigrated to Saskatchewan in the 1910's.
Oddly, I never find the name Simeon associated with anything
Yugoslavian, but it is a common French name. Does anyone have
any knowledge of this family name existing in the region of
Pancevo? Is there any history of French emigration to
Serbia?
McCLARREN, GREGORY R. and WARREN, CARTER (FEICHTNER)
eMail address: MacTravel@aol.com
My fiance's grandparents last name was FEICHTNER married in late
1800s to early 1900s most likely in SE Europe. Emigrated to
Chicago area in 1918 from Temes saag Hungra, then still
Transylvania, Hungary now of Rumania. Do not know grandmother's
maiden name as of this date but do know she was from Baratz
supposedly.
OLLEI, JOSEPH
eMail address: ollei@juno.com
My name is Olley Jozsef. I escaped from Deta, Romania, in 1971. I
have lost contact with Janosi Magdalena. She was born in Deta,
in February 1953, finished High School in Deta in 1972, married
to a German man in Jimbolia in November 1972. The latest, and
not necessarily accurate information about her, is that she is
divorced, with two children, living in Jimbolia, Romania.
Anybody who can find and send me more information about her,
would be greatly appreciated. She has a first couzin, Gubics
Iren, born in Deta, in 1952. She is probably married by now and
her family name is changed.

I'm interested in information about my grandparents who came from
Pest (as in Budapest) sometimes spelled Pesth. Their names were
Franz SCHUBERT and Anna FILIPPS (or FRILLIPS) in the late 1890's
or early 1900's and settled in Wyandotte, Michigan. Anna's two
sisters also came, as did Franz' sister Marie. Franz and Anna's
first child, also called Anna was born in Budapest (I think).
