My immigrant ancestor was Michael (John) HENNING, who came to the
USA from
Austria-Hungary in 1889. For unknown reasons, John refused to
talk about his
family or his former homeland, so nearly everything that we know
came from
a brother, who came several years later. Michael was born in
"Agnetheln,
Siebenbürgen, Österreich", according to his marriage
certificate.
Parents were John HENNING and Mary TIEL. He left his home shortly
after his
mother died, when he was 18 years old, headed for Cleveland,
where there was
"other family", and ultimately to South Dakota, where he began
farming. Interestingly, in the 1910 census, Michael listed his
nationality
as "German", while his brother George listed nationality as
"Magyar."
Associated families: HERBERT, KASLER, WALMA, SELL
So far, the only documents that I have found relating to the
Hermannstadt
area are some films of military records through the local FHC. My
other
research mainstay is a wonderful world atlas by Rand-McNally,
published
"auf Deutsch" in 1892, with enlarged maps of all
German-settled areas of Europe.
ARNOLD, LOU (LUDWIG PETER)

ARNOLD/HEINDEL My proper name is Ludwig Peter ARNOLD. I am a direct descendent of Johann
ARNOLD b. 1683 reportedly in Niederwurzbach, Pfalz, Germany. Verifying this ancestor's data from original
records is my primary research task. Later ancestors lived in Harta, (aka Kis-Harta) Hungary and then largely
in Liebling, Banat Romania before fleeing to Austria during WWII and then emigrating to Canada. I am also
interested in the Heindel families (my mother's maiden name), of Keinschemlak, Banat, Romania, before 1900.
I have a family tree in Reunion for Windows.
