I am currently trying to trace the CRODITIER line. I am aware of
KRODITIER, GRODITIER, GROSDIDIER, GRODITJE, etc. in neighboring towns of
Charleville, Triebswetter and Pardan; I haven't linked them to my tree yet.
Franz Croditier (Ferenc Kroditier) died in Deutsch Zerne May 18, 1888. Wife:
Barbara MÜLLER. They had 10 children, only 2 of which lived beyond the age of
30. Some of the children's deaths are recorded in Kikinda, Magyar Zerne, and
Toba, but primarily in Deutsch-Zerne. I would appreciate anyone checking
emigration references by Werner Hacker or Clifford Neal Smith. I have checked
Kallbrunner index. I would like to contact anyone involved in the Bambach
reunions held in Germany every second year. I understand that in recent years
one was held in Frankfurt. A dance at the Frankfurter Ruderclub was among the
events scheduled.

I have a
basic family tree of my Donauswabian ancestors that I got from my mom, but I've
done very little basic research there. I have worked extensively in Baden, so
that might help when the Swabians are traced back out of Hungary (I'm already
working on one such line :-).

Most of the
information I have on my Transylvanian Schwabian ancestors comes from a cousin
who has traveled to Hungary and Romania several times. His success has been
limited by the lack of available records. I have been unable to find anything on
LDS microfilm, so far. I am looking for any information on a man who may have
been a relative, or just a close family friend:
Janos ERNI, born 27 Jan,
1872, in Csanalos, Szabolcs Megye, Hungary (now Urziceni, Romania). He was
ordained a Roman Catholic priest on 29 Jan, 1896. He served as village priest in
Szinfalu, now Sii, from 1901 until his death in 1914, and he was buried in the
village cemetery. He was godfather to many children in the TEMPFLI and DORNER
families, and was called "Uncle," but that may have been out of respect and
love. If anyone has information on his parents and/or siblings, please let me
know. My ancestors were among the first Schwabian settlers of Csanalos /
Urziceni, and came to the area around 1712. Most of my ancestors stayed in
Csanalos / Urziceni, but some moved later to Nagy Karoly / Carei and Szaniszlo /
Sanislau.
The names I am researching are: CZIMMERMAN or ZIMMERMAN,
TEMPFLI, DORNER, ERNI, and BINDER. I would like to share information with anyone
researching the same lines. I also have some more historical information on the
area, which I would be happy to pass on. I also have a good map of Hungary, and
would be happy to look up a town or village that someone is has been unable to
find.
BENNING, MICHAEL
eMail address: MBenning@aol.com
Ethnic Group - German
- Transylvania (Siebenburgen) Saxons
Location - Austria-Hungary (then) -
Romania (now)
Villages - Waldhutten - Holdvilag - Elisabethstadt
My
Grandfather Michael BENNING was born in the village of Waldhutten in 1892. The
village was mostly German speaking people known as Transylvania Saxons. That
part of Austria - Hungary had many such town and villages. He came to the USA in
1909 at the same time many other Transylvania Saxon also came. He lived in the
Pittsburgh - Cleveland - Detroit working in various factories until marrying and
moving to California is 1921. He spent the rest of his life in
California.
In terms of genealogical research I have had some success.
Through the LDS Church Family History Center I have located microfilms of the
village church records. The records go back to 1734. I have been able to find
ancestors back to 1700. I have extracted and put on computer about 1800 names of
people from the village and town around there from the film.
I am
interested in contacting others people doing research among the Transylvania
Saxons. I have many questions about what I saw while studying the microfilms. In
particular I am interested to learn more about the customs and traditions of the
people. Would also be willing to share what I have learned. Effort to locate
find other researcher have had some results but not as much as I had
hoped.
The prominent names in my pedigree are BENNING, CSAKI (Hungarian),
HARTMANN, KENSTLER, KLUSCH, PLATZ, SCHULLER and SCHUSTER.

I am looking

with her two Blaser sons and her second Husband surnamed WENHARDT and settled in
Saskatchewan. I found many family names in 1984 in the cemetery at Bikacs, but
could not locate anyone who could speak German or English and I have no
Hungarian. I would also be grateful for suggestions from experenced family
historians as to how I can search further.
