JENSEN, LARRY R.
eMail address: LJensen@aol.com

Areas of research: Bukovina and Bohemia.
The particular towns I'm working on are Bori, Gurahumora, Illischestie, Paltinossa, and Stupka in Bukovina; but I'd be glad to correspond with any other Bukovina researchers. The village of Bori, in the Austrian crownland of Bukovina, was colonized in 1835 by a group of Roman Catholic, German-Bohemians that emigrated from around the towns of Rehberg, Seewiesen, and Bergreichenstein in the Bohemian forest (now Srni, Javorna, and Kasperke Hory, in the Czech Republic). Today, Bori is part of the town of Gura Humorului, Suceava, Romania.

I am seeking to trace all the descendants of these colonists. If you think you have information that may be related to the following families, please reply by e-mail, directly to me.

KANI, E. EDWARD
eMail address: 71034.2071@compuserve.com

I have a great deal of information about my KANIs moving from Abenheim/Worms to the Batschka in 1768, although I don't know as yet where they lived before Abenheim. I have thought that perhaps the female lines (wives of my KANIs) might point to other German towns for research. So the surnames listed below are of my g-grandmother and so on.

Kernei, Batsch-Brestowatz, and Apatin in the Batschka

BRENNER, FAITER (FEITER), HIGELI (HUGEL, HUEGEL, HEIGEL), and DUBA

KLEIN, GARY
eMail address: 75574.2505@compuserve.com

I am researching the (Zsombolya) Hatzfeld, Banat and (Hidasliget) Bruchneau, Banat region of Hungary.

In Hatzfeld, the surnames are: KLEIN, BUCHOLTZ, YOST or JOST, and KRAEMER
In Bruchneau, the surnames are: KELLER and SCHAVILLIE

I have tried the Latter Day Saints (FHL) Microfilm of the area, but it goes only up to 1860. I need it to go to October 1865. That is when John KLEIN was born.

I am the son of Mike KLUG (l889-l953)and Elizabeth Weber KLUG (l895-l970), who were both born in Offszenitza Hungary and came separately to the U. S. in l906/07. I have some genealogical details on my father's side but almost none on my mother's. I would, of course, be grateful for any information on their forbears or on village life in the Banat region, especially towns where my ancestors lived.

LINSTER, ROBERT J.
eMail address: 2BLINS@cris.com

My Grandfather came from Kleinjetscha in the late 1890's early 1900's. He worked at Baldwin Locomotive in Philadelphia, PA. He was joined by my Great Grandfather sometime in the early 1900's and they became homesteaders in the Lefor, New England, Dickenson area of North Dakota and show on the census located in the Data Base. My Grandfather Mathias married a JUNG in Philly. Her name was Elizabetha and she and her father ( not sure of name ) went west with my grandfather. My father John married my mother Catherine during a visit to Philly around 1920. Her maiden name was BIRO and she immigrated with her mother Anna and her grandmother ( not sure of name ). They came from Grossjetscha. My mother never knew her father or his name. My Grandmother died never telling anyone my Grandfather's name other than it was Frank and lived in Philadelphia. He also was from the Banat.

I have very little information other than this and am beginning research of LINSTER, BIRO and JUNG hoping to trace roots and possibly find my Grandfather's name. Any help, info or ideas would be appreciated as I go.

LUNG (nee), SHEILA
eMail address: ACE13551@aol.com

Interested in the Banat region. My father Peter LUNG was born there on 6-30-1898. According to my brother, Dad once pointed out the Banat region in northern Yugoslavia on a map. He said the city where he was born no longer existed. He lived near a river. When he was born the area I believe was considered Hungary. His parents John LUNG and Mary MITCHELL LUNG were married there. I believe all of their children were born there. The siblings are John, Mary, Peter, Nick, and Lena. They immigrated to Winnepeg Canada somewhere between 1906 and 1916. I have no dates for John, Nick or Mary. Nor do I know of any of their siblings. Would love to know if I have relatives in the old country.

SCHEER

My paternal grandmother, Suzanna BINDER (nee SCHEER), was born in Billed, Hungary on September 15, 1893. She left the Old World with her parents on the S.S. Carpathia, which departed from Fiume on February 26, 1907. They arrived in New York on March 16, 1907 and joined Peter STEINER (her uncle) in Saint Louis on March 19, 1907. She married Anton BINDER in September 1913 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Saint Louis, Missouri. She died April 26, 1962 in Saint Louis, MO. She was buried April 30, 1962 in Resurrection Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

Her sisters were Katharina and Marianna (sp) SCHEER. Katharina was born November 25, 1888 in Biled; she died in Saint Louis, MO. Marianna was born September 14, 1890 and died March 26, 1893 in Biled.

Her father, Peter SCHEER, was born in Knesz, Austria-Hungary on September 5, 1863. He was a vintner by trade. He married Katharina STEINER on February 19, 1889 in Billed. He died in May 1949 in Saint Louis, MO. He was buried May 31, 1949 in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

Her mother, Katharina SCHEER (nee STEINER), was born in Billed on February 5, 1861. She married on February 19, 1889 in Billed. She died in 1949 in Saint Louis, MO. She was buried July 5, 1949 in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

My great-great-grandmother, Barbara (?) STEINER (her name appears to have been entered as Barbolo: is this Magyarization?) was also listed on the passenger list for the S.S. Carpathia. Her age was listed as 65 (I'm staggered that a person of her age would undertake this journey), so that means she was born sometime between March 1841 and March 1842. Her birthplace was listed as Biled.

BINDER

My paternal grandfather, Anton BINDER, was born in Bega-Szent-Gyorgi, Hungary on December 24, 1891. He arrived in New York on June 24, 1906 on the S.S. Ultonia (Cunard), which departed from Fiume. He married Suzanna SCHEER in September 1913 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in St. Louis, MO. Grandpa died July 24, 1956 in St. Louis, MO. He was buried July 27, 1956 in Resurrection Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO. His siblings were Mathias, Anna, Magdalen (Helen), Johann, and Joseph (who was born in America but died when he was an infant).

His father, also named Anton BINDER, was born in Bega-Szent-Gyorgi, Austria-Hungary on August 26, 1865. I don't know when he married. He left the Old World on the S.S. Barbarossa, which departed from Bremen on July 2, 1904. He arrived in New York on July 13, 1904. He died October 2, 1936 in Saint Louis, MO. He was buried October 5, 1936 in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

His mother, Anna BINDER (nee SCHULZ), was born in Schonfeld(?), Austria-Hungary on February 2, 1865. She accompanied her five children to America in 1906. She died December 30, 1936 in Saint Charles, MO. She was buried January 2, 1937 in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.

In the FOKO database, there is listed a Barbara BINDER / PINTER from Bega-Szent-Gyorgi, Torontal Country. This is my ancestral village. I have finished reviewing FHC microfilm #1190307 for Kathreinfeld/Katalinafalva, the nearest parish, and I found only one BINDER but in Kis-Torok, a neighboring village. I did find entries for Joannes PINTER from Bega-Szent-Gyorgi in reference to baptisms of his children or godchildren.

I don't have any ancestors from the area, but Yugoslavia has been my scholarly interest for years. Well, it was until everything blew up. I know all the languages of the area (not Hungarian), having a PhD in Slavic languages, and am currently working as a librarian at the Hoover Institution Library on the Stanford University campus. I mention this because I have access to a lot of printed material, especially gazetteers, which might be of help to researchers. I am willing to look things up, especially place names, and to help however I can. I know that many researchers do not have the linguistic background or resources that are at my disposal, and so I offer to help.

They immigrated in about 1906 to Mayville, Wi..Peter had made at least two trips to the USA before he decided on Wisconsin. He did not come because of any type of persecution, but simply because he loved to hunt and fish and in Yugoslavia it wasn't as free as in early Wisconsin. The SORGEND family still survives in Germany, but I don't believe any are left in Apatin. I have most of the history of the people here in the USA and have some addresses of the people in Germany.

Surnames of Interest: GERSON, MESZ (MOES, MESZAROS)
Resources: The MESA FHC, the largest FHC outside of Salt Lake City.

Note: I'm prepared to pay for simple research done on site. I understand that bribery is the standard way of life in Romania, but I've been unable to contact anyone closer than Budapest, Hungary. Unfortunately, access to Romania is very difficult. _ANY_ contact with persons having similar interests or information assisting research will be greatly appreciated.
