One favor I ask of all submitters: I'm getting a lot of
email from people who see this
SERL
page and then send me questions about their families, not
indicating whether or not the mail
is
directed solely at me or whether it is meant to be posted on the
SERL web page. Please put
this
phrase in your message's subject header: "Please Post on the
SERL"
Thanks,

I am searching for the following names: LAUSENDAUFER, Fabian and
Mary Louise
MERRINGER, Lutelis and Amanda BASINGER, Frank and Rebecca
BARNDT. These are
people in my ancestry from Austria/Hungary. I have had little
luck finding out
where they lived. All I know is that they emigrated to the USA
in the
approximate year of 1918. They came by ship, and landed in New
York. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.

Surnames: WERKMANN, WANSUNG (Changed to Wansong in US), BRUCH,

Another interested person would be my cousin, KARL WERKMANN, but
at this
time, I'll represent him on this list, if that's OK.

REGION: Banat, near Temesoara, the town of Ghizela and perhaps
others.
It's now Western Romania.
SURNAMES: WARACK, HORRASZ, SCHNEIDER
My grandfather emigrated from the Banat during WW I. I'm pretty
ignorant
of how to proceed (since he died in 1938 and my grandmother died
in 1968)
in learning ANYTHING about the area. My living aunts and uncles
were
all born in the US. I'd love to just tune into what other people
are doing or
have done.
WENSON, PETER

Towns and corresponding surnames:
Kikinda:
WENSON, REFF, STRECKFUSS, REB, GEBHARDT, KASTORI, and SENDEF

Torza:
WENZ,
SCHICK, HUBER, FISCHER, FRANK, KITZER, KONRAD, BINDER, LANG, and
WEISENBACH.
The only searching I've done is talk to relatives and construct a
family tree
as accurate and as detailed as possible, going back about 150
years.
WHITE, ANN BRILL
eMail address: anniebw@bellatlantic.net
I am looking for information on the the following surnames:
BRILL, GLOSSMANN, and
FORBAGER. My grandfather, Peter BRILL, was a Transylvania Saxon
who came from the
area of Timisoara, Romania. His father was killed in a threshing
machine accident when he
was an infant, and his mother remarried. Peter BRILL came to
America after WWI and
settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and married Elizabeth
GLOSSMANN. Peter's half sister
is
Margaret FORBAGER of St. Petersburg, FL. Any information would
be helpful.
Thanks!

Location: Batschka - town of Apatin
Names: IMHOF, LORCH, and FLESS
According to family tradition, Georg IMHOF and Elizabeth LORCH,
my maternal
great-grandparents, left Apatin about 1903. They brought with
them their three young
daughters, Maria, Rozina, and Elizabeth. They first went to
Saginaw, Michgan, where they
worked on a farm for a few years; next, they went to St. Louis,
where Georg worked in a
factory, and where other IMHOFS already lived.
Another daughter, Helen, was born there in 1910; next, they
moved to Loomis, Wisconsin,
where they farmed, following an IMHOF brother and sister (who
married a CHA-JA, later
changed to SHIER); and finally, back to St. Louis, around 1919.
By this time, my
grandmother, Maria IMHOF, had married August C. FRIEHS, who left
Silesia, with his
parents, also around 1903.
Elizabeth LORCH, left behind a large family in Apatin, including
her parents Ferdinand
LORCH, and Rozina FLESS. Her youngest sister, Maria LORCH,
however, also went to
St.
Louis and was married to Joseph KRIX. The oldest sister, Anna
LORCH, married Frantz
KOENIG. There were 10 other siblings.
I will be looking at microfilms at the local FHL, and already
know the names IMHOF,
LORCH, and FLESZ can be found in the 1828
Land
Census of Hungary
WILSON, MAUREEN ANN
eMail address: MaureenAW@aol.com
Mary NOVAK born Abt. March of 1863 married George DUCUS or DUGAS
born about April 1860. In the 1920 Pennsylvania Census it states
that they were both from Austria and their mother language was
Slovakian. Both of their parents are listed as the same. They
had 11 children. George Jr. was born in presumably Austria
October 1883. The remaining children were born in Pennsylvania
(mostly in Wayne and Scraton counties). The 1920 Pennsylvania
Census states that they became naturalized citizens in 1895 but I
do not no which county in Pennsylvania that this occurred.

Dora LANYI born 15 Aug 1874, Golnitzbanya, Hungary. (father:
Joseph LANYI).
To my knowledge, this is present day Gelnica Spiaska Nova Ves. I
checked LDS microfilms
for both Catholic and Lutheran church and did find some LANYI
name entries, but could not
find any Joseph or Dora. The LANYI entries in film were earlier
than I could connect
into.
She married Anton REGNIER (later changed name to
Renye upon
arriving in
USA). They were married in Philadelphia 8 Oct 1904. Regnier
came originally from Alsace
Lorraine but came to the Triebswetter (Torontal) area around
1650. Some of the family
married into TOUTTENUITS family (of which I have very little
info).

I have found an excellent reference book series on the Medieval
Balkans from
the University of Michigan Press by John V. A. Fine:
The Early Medieval Balkans, A Critical Survey from the Sixth
to Late
Twelfth Century and
The Late Medieval Balkans A Critical Survey from the Late
Twelfth Century
to the Ottoman Conquest. As of yet, there are only these two
volumes in
the series. I am eagerly awaiting any future volumes. These
volumes can be
found at Borders Books. I have yet to find a more thorough and
scholarly
history of this region. I am also joining the Croatian
Genealogical
Society.

I am researching surnames: ZITZKA, BAUMGARTNER, KORNACKER from
Glogovatz or
Schondorf (Schoendorf) Austria-Hungary (both are near Arad) My

ZITZKA and Barbara BAUMGARTNER and my great grandparents Anton
