I am looking for information about the STAMPFLI family at
Solothurn, Solothurn Canton, Switzerland. I am related to an Urs
Joseph STAMPFLI who was born in 1766 at Solothurn. He married
Katharina ROTH and they had a son, Johann Babtiste STAMPFLI.
Johann was born June 1804 in Etziken. He lived in the Solothurn
area and worked as a tailor. Johann married Barbara KRUTI in
1827. Their house was being used as a convent in the 1970's. I
believe Barbara was born in Feldbrunnen in 1810 and died in 1845.
Johann and Barbara had a son, Urs Joseph STAMPFLI. Urs Joseph
was born October 1840 and he immigrated to the United States
(Missouri) in 1860. Any help appreciated.

Bernhard (Bernard) ACCOLA is believed to have been born in
Switzerland in 1833 or 1834. He immigrated to Australia in
January 1859 aboard the ship "Ben Nevis". He married Mary Jane
MATER / MATEE / MATTEER at Deniliquin NSW (New South Wales),
Australia in 1866. His wife's name is variously spelled - we
think "MATEER" may be correct and that she was of Irish
extraction and was born at Melbourne, Australia in 1841. Bernard
and Mary Jane had six children, all born in south central NSW:
Male (name unknown), 1867 at Deniliquin; Bernard, 1868 at
Deniliquin; Thomas, 1870 at Deniliquin; Peter, 1875 at Wagga;
Christina, 1877 at Wagga; and James, 1880 at Narrandera. Peter
is my wife's grandfather. Bernard (the elder) died at Narrandera
in 1917 at age 84.

I am researching John A. LINHERR, born in Switzerland about 1838,
a jeweler who imigrated to the US and settled at New York City
around 1850. I am looking for his parent's names and place of
birth in Switzerland. He married Mary A. MEINELL, probably in
New York City around 1865. John and Mary had three or four
children all born in New York: Mary A. born about 1867; Catherine
born about 1869; Augusta born 1875; and possibly a boy named
Oscar. Any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for the first marriage of Guiseppe FRANSCIONI. His
children were Virgilio, Sereno, Mansuet, Natale, Severo, Albina,
Venanzio, and Celeste. Guiseppe FRANSCIONI was born 19 March 1828
at Lodano, Canton Ticino and died 3 July 1896 at Lodano. Family
records indicate a wife Dolorato TUNZI; Other information lists
Addolorato DEBERUS (unsure of spelling) as second wife born 16
March 1837 and died 5 December 1906 and married 4 July 1880. The
children were born between 1854 and 1875. At least four of the
sons immigrated to the Salinas Valley in California, USA. Any

I am researching the family of Emil DELALOYE. He immigrated to
the USA around 1910. He was born 20 January 1875 at Ardon,
Valais, Switzerland. His parents are listed as Eugene DELALOYE
(born 8 October 1842 in Ardon) and Augustine DELALOYE on his US
Social Security application. His brothers and sisters who also
immigrated to the USA were Mary, Eugenia, Modest, Louis and
Charles. The parents of Eugene DELALOYE were Joseph Marie
Modeste DELALOYE (born 25 March 1810) and Marie Louise NAVILLE.
Any help would be appreciated.
DESCOMBES, Larry
eMail address: ldesc@iland.net
(Presbyterian)
My DESCOMBES family immigrated from Switzerland to the Red River
colony in Manitoba, arriving there, I believe during the winter
of 1821-1822. In a short time, my great-great-great-grandfather
David Louis DESCOMBES, his wife Ann Rose MONNIER and their
children Frederick L. DESCOMBES, Charles Louis DESCOMBES and
Louise DESCOMBES took leave of their contractual obligation to
the proprietors of the colony and endured a perilous two year
trek, immigated south into the US, arriving eventually at Fort
Snelling in present day Minnesota. They then proceeded south to
Saint Louis, Missouri where they took land. One son of David
Louis DESCOMBES, Charles Louis DESCOMBES, was my
great-great-grandfather and he homesteaded land in Johnson
county, Missouri
in 1856. I am proud to say I am the fifth generation of the
DESCOMBES family to live on and own this farm. I have located
burials and have considerable history on each of the
aforementioned individuals, with the exception of Louise
DESCOMBES. The information I have indicates Louise DESCOMBES
married a man named Leions MONNIER 12 January 1830. Oral history
indicates they may have traveled to California. Also the
possibility exists they may have lived or visited at Griggsville,
Illinois for a period of time, or a son or other kin of theirs
was there. In family pictures we find a photograph taken by
Clark's Gallery at Griggsville, Illinois, of an individual named
Henry Edward MONNIER. He appears to be 20 - 35 years of age and
clothing style would indicate date of photograph to be 1860-1890
range. I do know there was a David MONNIER and 10 of his family
members who immigrated to the Red River colony on the same ship
as my ancestors. Both David MONNIER and David Louis DESCOMBES
families came to this continent from the Canton of Neuchatel in
Switzerland. Any assistance anyone can provide in my search for
the destiny of Louise DESCOMBES MONNIER will be greatly
appreciated.

I am seeking a birth record for my great-grandfather, John Jacob
EGGER. According to his death certificate, he was born at Bern,

his aunt and uncle Jacob and Frances OSWALD. They all immigrated
to the USA in 1864 and settled at Centralia, Illinois where the
men worked as boilermakers for the Illinois Central railroad.
John married Wilhelmina SCHARFENSTEIN in Illinois and they had

I am searching for my great-great-grandmother, Marie RICHENET.
We believe she was from Switzerland and we have a copy of her
book of Psalms (in French) with an illegible inscription dated
1773, then an inscription to Franchette RICHENET dated 1807.
Marie was married to Alexander LOCKHART, solicitor, in Ireland in
1826 in a Church of Ireland (Protestant) ceremony. She died at
Belfast in 1862. Does anyone recognize this family name or
connection. I would be most grateful.

I am interested in finding more information about an ancestor
Francis Joseph VON ACHEN. He married Eve Rosini FUHRMANN. There
were apparently nine children born of this mariage, eight of whom
were born in Alsace Lorraine: Elizabeth VONACHEN, born about
1785; Madeline VONACHEN, born about 1786; Marguerite VONACHEN,
born about 1790; Francis Joseph VONACHEN, born about 1792; Ann
Marie VONACHEN, born about 1794; Antonius VONACHEN, born about
1796; Louis VONACHEN, born about 1797; and Jean VONACHEN, born
about 1801. The ninth child of this marriage was Christened at
Hagenbach (Bayern, Pfalz). Her name was Francisca VON ACHEN. The
date of the christening was 17 October 1801. Francis Joseph was
a shepherd and seems to have moved quite a bit. His grandson,
Johann VON ACHEN (my great-grandfather) was born at
Niederroedern, Bas Rhin, Alsace, France in 1826. He married Anne
Marie GALLE in January 1853, they immigrated to the USA in 1853
and settled in New York. I am working my way back in time and
need to try to establish the parents and place of birth for
Francis Joseph VON ACHEN. I am trying to find any information at
all on this family.

I am looking for any information about the family of Friedolin
SCHERRER, born 5 January 1847 at Liesberg (at that time in Canton
Bern) and married Maria Florentina MšLLER (born 20 October 1847)
on 11 June 1872. The family immigrated to the US in 1882 and
lived in Cleveland, Ohio from 1885-1887. I have used all
censuses, city directory etc. sources, but have not found any
reference to them or any members of their family in any State
after 1887. I am wondering if the family returned to
Switzerland. The children were: Maria Amalia, born 21 January
1873; Friedolin Arnold, born 15 January 1874; Florentina Bertha,
born 17 September 1875; Maria Hermina, born 20 May 1877; Joseph
Albin, born 9 December 1878; and Lina Louise, born 31 January
1881. I have a copy of the family page from the Bürgerrodel
(Buergerrodel / Burgerrodel), but there is no indication if they
returned to Switzerland. I would appreciate any information or
suggestions on how to research further.

My great grandfather Urias TISHER, his wife, Marie, and son,
Benedict immigrated to the United States from Switzerland in
1850. Urias was born at Birdsville, Switzerland 19 March 1816
and died in Missouri 31 December 1880. I believe two of Urias'
sisters or half sisters accompanied them when they immigrated to
the US. One may have been named Barbara. They arrived at the
Port of New York and then went to New Market in Northeast
Missouri. Benedict was born at Birdsville, Switzerland on 28
November 1843 and died at Hannibal, Missouri 20 March 1918. As
far as I know, Benedict was their only child. Any help would be
appreciated.

Benoit LEVY was born 18 June 1874 at Bern, Switzerland. His
parents were Emanuel LEVY and Rose LEVY (same maiden and married
surnames). The family had immigrated from Niedersept
(Seppose-le-Bas), France. Benoit LEVY immigrated to the US at
the age of 14 (circa 1888) with his Uncle Aaron LEVY. He lived
at New York City for a time, with his sisters Alice LEVY and
Celine LEVY. He soon moved to Archbold, Ohio to live with his
Uncle Aaron LEVY. He married Maybelle Edwina SANDERSON in 1906
and moved to Hanover, Jackson County, Michigan. This was home
until his death in 1954. I have information on Aaron LEVY that
locates his family back into 1700's in France. This information
does apply to Benoit LEVY. I would like to have more facts about
the family in the time frame 1850 to 1930 in France and
Switzerland. I suspect that there are more cousins that remained
in the Alsace area of France. I would be glad to correspond with
persons related to this family. I have located this family at
Bern, Switzerland.

I would like information on the STREIT / HUBER Families from
Switzerland. Samuel Albrecht STREIT, born 27 October 1870, died
21 May 1957 was from Oberscherli, Bern County. His parents were
Johannes STREIT, born 11 July 1835, died 21 March 1873 and Mary

born 15 September 1842, died 9 June 1906 and Anna Magdalena
FRIEDLI, born 15 October 1852, died 1 May 1882. Samuel and Anna
both immigrated to the USA in 1895 and were married 5 April 1898.
They had four daughters: Martha Emma, born 11 July 1898 and died
1 August 1982; Hulda Lena, born 30 July 1901 and died 15 July
1988; Flora Helen, born 17 April 1910 and died 8 August 1981; and
Marguerite Gladys, born 24 April 1914 and the date of death is

Joseph ECABERT was born 16 December 1816 in Switzerland. I found
in the US Federal census in 1860. Joseph ECABERT was my great
grandfather. ECABERT was later changed to ACOBERT by the portion
of the family residing in Indiana. Apparently others kept it as
ECABERT. Joseph did not marry until he was at New Albany,
Indiana. In 1852 he married Francoise DURANT and in 1858 he
married Rose JORDAN. I cannot locate either death and have no
idea where they are buried. He is buried here at Vincennes,
Indiana. His children were Rose, Mary, Jean, Emma, Joe and
August. I don't even know what happened to others. Joe was my
grandfather. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
SPORLEDER, Rachelle

I have information of my great grandfather, Karl Hans VON HAUSER
(the American name HAUSER was changed in my family line to
HOUSER) who was supposedly born in Canton of Zurich, Switzerland
in 1655. He supposedly left for London around the early 1700's.
In 1707 it is said that he immigrated to America on the ship
"Isle of Wright" and he shows up on the tax records at
Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I Emailed the state
archives in Zurich and got a letter back that said the
information I have sounds too far fetched. That a man of title
"von" would not immigrate to the United States. All the
information I have is from the Internet and I have no
documentation. He married a HULDRICHA, which the archives stated
this name has never been in use and is not in use currently. I
don't know what to believe. Of the family tree I got from the
Internet I know for a fact that back 5 generations is correct
because all 5 are buried 10 miles from my home town including my
father. The last known correct ancestor was Alexander HOUSER born
1820 at Washington, Tennessee. He died in Appanoose County, Iowa.
That is fact. Any help would be appreciated.

Heinrich RUSSENBERGER (born at Schleitheim, Schaffhausen,
Switzerland in 1800, died in 1869) married both Elisabeth and
Margaretha PLETSCHER. His son Hans (born 1825 at Schleitheim),
emigrated to the US in 1850 and landed at New Orleans, where the
officials, who couldn't read German script, spelled his name
RUHSENBERGER. He kept that spelling, settled at Evansville,
Indiana and raised a large family, including my grandfather,
Charles Alexander RUHSENBERGER (born 1869, died 1959). I have
records from the old kirchenbuchs back to 1468, when the name was
not RUSSENBERGER, but PRINZ. His only son, my uncle, John Roger
RUHSENBERGER (born 1900, died 1992), graduated Annapolis in 1924,
aaand received lots of honors including becoming deputy commander
of NATO. When I wrote to the Gemeindhaus in Schleitheim I found
out Hans, his sister Amalia and one brother had all been declared
dead in 1915. One other brother, who emigrated with them, later
returned to Switzerland.

My great grandfather is Anthony (Tobias) PISCIANI born in Italy
(I believe). He married Teresa LIETZAU who was born 16 October
1881 in Italy. Her death certificate state she was born in Italy
but was a citizen of Switzerland. They had two children, Pierina
PISCIANI born 8 March 1906 in Switzerland and died 2 February
1945 at Detroit, Michigan. The name and date of birth of the
other child is unknown. Teresa is reported to have come from
Minusio in Ticino in Switzerland and immigrated to the US in the
early years of the 20th century. Pierina married Alfred Jack
LIETZAU born 26 June 1896 at Detroit, Michigan. They had four
children all born at Detroit, Michigan: Raymond James LIETZAU
born 26 July 1931; Julie Theresa LIETZAU, born 12 December 1932;
Paul J. LIETZAU, born 23 June 1937 and Charles LIETZAU, born 1
