I am seeking information on Ernst John MEIER, born 7 May 1852 or
October 1854. I have seen both birth dates. He is listed in the
1900 U. S. Texas Census as being born at Bern, Switzerland,
listing both parents (no names given), as being born in
Switzerland. He immigrated to the United States through
Galveston, Texas circa 1870-1780 and lived at Schulenberg, Texas.
He is supposed to have a sister named Katherine and brother,
unknown name. He married Louisa Augustina REICHERT in Texas in
1883. He died at San Antonio, Bexar county, Texas in 1909. Any
help will be greatly appreciated in locating his Swiss family.
Thank you.

I am searching for any information or leads regarding the
TREUTTER family, who emigrated from Neuchatel, Switzerland to the
Selkirk, Red River Colony (Canada) in 1821. The family was
Protestant, and consisted of PIERRE TREUTTER, age 51, who was
born about 1771 in Neuchatel; Catherine, age 43; Jonas, age 19;
Marianne, age 17; Pierre, age 13; and Adele, age 6. These ages
were as of 31 July 1822, when the Swiss colonists were all
listed. I have also seen the surname spelled TREUTTE in French
with an accent over the U (TRE&Uaacute;TTE). Marianne stayed in
Canada and married John Clarke, Chief Factor for the Hudsons Bay
Company. I think that the rest of the family returned to
Switzerland. Marianne was my great-great-grandmother.

I am researching the CAMPINI family from Mergoscia, Canton
Ticino, Switzerland. My great-great-grandfather, Vincent
CAMPINI, was born in 1812. He emigrated from Switzerland to
Birmingham, England, probably in the 1830 to 1840s, but I do not
know exactly when or how he travelled. He married my English
great-great-grandmother, (Matilda MASCALL) at Birmingham in
September 1850. Vincent worked as a looking glass and picture
frame maker. On his wedding certificate it states that Vincent's
father was Peter CAMPINI, a Swiss farmer. Vincent died aged 79
in 1890 at Birmingham. I am not sure if Vincent travelled to
England alone, although there is a story of two brothers arriving
(together?) from Switzerland. At Birmingham in 1829, a Patrick
CAMPINI married a local woman (Martha STICK). I am not sure what
happened to Patrick (probably died), but his wife later married a
Michael CAPELLA (also Swiss - from Mergoscia?) in 1839. Martha
and Michael CAPELLA were witnesses at Vincent's marriage in 1850
to Matilda. Vincent and Patrick were both Roman Catholics - as
were Michael and Martha CAPELLA. There was also another Swiss
born CAMPINI living in Birmingham, according to the 1871 British
Census. Peter CAMPINI, a British Citizen, born in 1846 in
Switzerland (Mergoscia?), and his English wife Sarah (nee PERRY),
were living and working in Birmingham. Peter was employed as a
looking glass maker. According to Peter and Sarah's marriage
certificate, Peter's Swiss father was Gothard CAMPINI, a farmer.
They were married in a Roman Catholic church in 1868.

1856. They had four children, Marie Martha ISELI, Carl Arnold
ISELI, Ernst Arnold ISELI, and Emma Rose ISELI, whose birth

I am seeking information on the family of Ulrich SOMMER, who was
born 26 October 1834 at Sumiswald, Canton Bern, Switzerland. I
believe his parents were Hans Ulrich SOMMER and Elisabeth LOOSLI.
He immigrated to the United States in 1855 and enlisted in the US
Union army at Monroe, Wisconsin. Ulrich was married at Iowa
City, Iowa in 1866 to Elizabeth RAFF. He had one sister,
Katharina SOMMER, born 1836, whom I have found at Iowa City,
Iowa. She married George TRUMPP. Ulrich may have had two other
sisters; Elisabeth who married Andreas ZAUGG and Anna Maria.

I am searching for information Elisabeth MEISTER, born 1835, and
Maria MEISTER, born 1831 at or near Gampalen, Switzerland. They
are the daughters of Anna Margarita WENKER and Christian Wilhelm
MEISTER. I am also interested in informatin on the WENKER
family. A son, David MEISTER, married a Barbara KURT, born 1
January 1851. I have no information on her except that she was
from Berne, Switzerland.

(Mennonite)
My ancestor was Peter LEMAN, a Swiss Mennonite who immigrated to
00Philadelphia in 1717 and settled in Lancaster PA. He was born
about 1670 to 1675, probably in the Swiss Emmental and likely not
far from Worb. He is believed to have left Switzerland about
1700 and spent the intervening years in the Palatinate; at least
some of them at Friedelsheim. His will was probated 11 June 1741,
and is recorded at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in Will Book
A-1-56. I am searching for records of his ancestors in
Switzerland and living relatives in Europe. When Peter arrived in
the New World, he had five children with him, They were: Peter,
Christian, Jacob (my ancestor), Barbara and Mary. They were born
approximately between 1700 and 1712, in the above order. There is
no evidence of a wife after arrival, and thus she probably died
in Europe or on the voyage.

I seek vital stats and ancestral information about Jakob RUBIN of
Lauterbrunnen, Canton Bern, Switzerland. On 4 December 1843 he
married Susanna ALTHAUS of Interlakken, Canton Bern, Switzerland,
about whom I also seek information. They had children named
Jakob; Ann; Mary; Margaret; Charlie; Henry; Verona; Walter; and
Susanna Elizabeth RUBIN (my great-grandmother), who was born 7
April 1850 at Lauterbrunnen, Canton Berne, Switzerland. She
married Otto Edward SCHMIDT (later changed to SMITH), who was
born 7 July 1848 at Untergennin, Brandenburg, Germany. Susanna
died at Whitewater, Wisconsin on 11 April 1899.

I am trying to find information on the ancestors of my
great-grand parents, Jacob SCHUDEL and Sophiema SCHAEFER. Jacob
Schudel was born 13 June 1877 at Beggingen, Sureren, Switzerland.
He married Sophiema SCHAEFER / CHAEFER, born 4 June 1871. I
don't know where she was born, but I think it was Beggingen also.
I also don't know when or where they got married, but they did
immigrate to America, settle at San Francisco, and raised two
daughters. Sophie's (her nick name) and her mother's maiden name
was KRUGER, that is all I know of Sophie. Jacob's parents were
Melchoir Schudel, born about 1842 at Beggingen, Switzerland and
Anne or Anna BLUM or BLOOM. I believe BLUM is correct and I
believe she was also born at Beggingen or nearby.
Webmaster's Note: If you have not already do so, I suggest
you use the website index at the top or bottom of this pager to
enter Schudel into our search index, as they might show up on the
San Francisco Call database of residents being assembled
by Jim Faulkenbury.

We are looking for information on Francis GENOU (possibly spelled
GENOUD) born in 1777 in the Crey Parish of Chatel, Canton of
Fribourg, Switzerland. He married Mary Barbara LAUBER in 1818.
She was born in 1795. They had 8 children all born and baptised
in Crey Parish of Chatel. Francis was a farmer, and in a letter
dated 1906, his house and barn still stood there. The family
immigrated to America and the name was changed to SHINEW. We
know 4 boys came here with them and settled in Portage township,
Wood county, Ohio. The children's names are Daniel (no
information); Peter Franciscus, born 21 February 1820 in Crey,
died in 1896 atn Bowling Green, Ohio; Anna Maria, born 27 April
1821; Mary Magdaline, born 23 April 1823; Anna Catherine, born 15
June 1825; John Dennis, born 27 February 1827, died 1904 at
Bowling Green, Ohio (our link); Louis Theodore, born 23 September
1828, died 30 June 1916 at Bowling Green, Ohio; and John Joseph,
born 9 January 1831, died 1905 at Bowling Green, Ohio.

I am seeking information on Virgil RACINE, born 14 June 1864 at
Bern, Switzerland to August RACINE and Sophia Camo RACINE. We
believe that Augustl RACINE may have died in Switzerland. The
passenger list of the ship "Saxonia" of 1869 suggests that Sophia
(age 40) with children, Hermina (age 6) and Virgil (age 2)
entered this country, and settled in Allen County, Indiana
between 1864 and 1874. Sophia remarried theophile GUILLAUM on 25
April 1869. I haven't found anything on these people after the
marriage. My theory is that Virgil's father August RACINE died
in Switzerland and Sophia came here for an arranged marriage.
Virgil RACINE did appear in the Fort Wayne, Indiana directory as
living and working for Aime, August and Frederick RACINE in theIr
horsecollar manufacturing business in Fort Wayne, Indiana until
he went to work for the railroad. He married my
great-grandmother Cecilia LANTERNIER, on 27 September 1888 and
had five
children The RACINE family and the rest of their families that
had the horsecollar business were 2nd generation. The first
generation was Samuel who immigrated in 1850, John Jacob and John
Frederick in 1849 directly to Washington township in Allen
County, Indiana. I just need to either find how if at all Virgil
is related to these Racines. There are many Racines here but I
need some documentation to make the right connection.
