(Roman Catholic)

I am trying to trace an ancestor - Anna CROCHACK (?) back to somewhere in Bohemia. She was married to a Joseph PECH who was born about 16 October 1830 in Bohemia. His family was from Prague. Both had emigrated to the US - probably Wisconsin - by 1867. Both listed as coming from Bohemia and were Roman Catholic. They had nine children in the US - Mary, Joseph, Anna, John, Ellie, Josie, Aggie, Fannie, and Tillie. All were born at Tama, Iowa except the first one, Mary Pech, who was born in Wisconsin in 1867. The family settled at Tama, Iowa in the 1870s and 1880s.

BUFKA, Karla
eMail address: Bufka@email.msn.com

We are searching for any information regarding the surname BUFKA. I understand that my husband's family emigrated to America from Bohemia before the turn of the century, but there is no further information on them except that they were farmers in the old country. My husband's name is Greg BUFKA. His father is Virgil BUFKA, born in Missouri in 1926. The grandfather, Anthony BUFKA, born 1876 at Defiance, Ohio abandoned the family shortly after the birth of Virgil in 1926. The great-granfather was Adam BUFKA, ADAM who emigrated prior to 1876 from Bohemia. Any information provided would be greatly appreciated. Reply to: goldenfire@juno.com Thank-you.

I also need information on maternal Grandparents, John and Sophia UHLIK (1857) born at Tichonice, Bohemia. I cannot find Tichonice on any map. They emigrated to the US in 1881. Any information would be appreciated.

DONOVAN, Joseph
eMail address: JoDon883@aol.com

Hello SVEC (SWETZ) and JIRA family members. I am searching for my Bohemian ancestors and possible relatives both here in the United States and the Czech Republic. My great grandfather, Michael SVEC was born on February 3, 1863, somewhere in the Czech Republic. He obtained his citizenship papers in the State of Washington 27 September 1890. His certificate states that the area that he came from was under the rule of Francis Joseph, Emperor of Austria. He had two brothers by the name of Frank SVEC (SWETZ) who settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Joseph SVEC (SWETZ) who settled in Forest, Washington. My great grandmother, Annie Clara JIRA was born on August 12, 1865, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and she had six sisters, Mary JIRA YOUNG, born in Bohemia; Bozena JIRA YOUNG; Minnie JIRA MASHEK; Emma JIRA HOLUB and Helen JIRA TUREK, all born at LaCrosse Wisconsin, and Antonia JIRA PROSEK born in Kansas.

FONFEREK, Bill

My great grandfather Josef FORAL (age 15) emigrated from the Czech Republic in 1882 leaving from Havre France aboard the ship "SS France" arriving in New York 25 August 1882. He settled at the town of Spruce, Oconto County Wisconsin. He married Marguerite STEFFEL / STEFL in 1883 at Oconto Wisconsin. On his death certificate his parents were listed as Mathew and Mary FORAL. On notes from his 1st papers (naturalization) he claimed Bonn, Austria, as his home. I'm assuming that was the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Not having a copy of the papers, I cannot verify any details. There are several possibilities; Bamm, Brno (Brunn) etc. I have found the FORAL surname at Brno either through the IGI database (1805-1820) or the Czech phone directory. Any suggestions? I'm planning to write letters to all in the phone directory before attempting research efforts.

GREEN, Virginia
eMail address: dotcalmr@mail.bcpl.lib.md.us

I am searching for information about my jewish grandfather, Adolph GREEN and his second wife, my grandmother, Fanny GREENBAUM. My grandfather left the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the age of 16 in about 1898-1899. I always thought he was from Hungary but my uncle once told me that he was from Czechoslovakia from a town that would be pronounced (something like) Davidov? My grandmother was from Debrecen, Hungary, and came to the U.S.in the early 1900's. Both originally lived in New York, my grandfather later lived in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. Both grandparents eventually lived and died at Berwick, Pennsylvania. My grandfather had one sister, Hannah or "Annie" and several half brothers and sisters whose names I don't know. Annie married Sam KLEIN and lived at Brooklyn or Queens her entire life.

PALLME, Oscar
Via G. Morelli 1, 20129 Milano, Italy
eMail address: pallme@tin.it

I would like to be in contact with the members of the following families whose roots/origin are in Bohemia: a) PALLME and/or PALME, that are descendants of Johan Franciscus Pallme, born 1698 at Steinschoenau). They had business activity in Bohemia (Steinschoenau, Schelten, etc.), Italy (Trieste, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Livorno, Pisa, etc.), Egypt / Sudan (Cairo, Khartoum, etc.), Turkey (Constantinople/Istanbul, etc.), USA, etc. In the past, the surname was written in different ways (PALLME, PALME, PALM, PALLM, etc.) even between the members of the same family. According to my last information, the Pallme families that were living in Bohemia changed their surname (from Pallme to Palme) during 18th and 19th centuries. b) LANGER, that are descendant of Francesco (Franz) Langer from North Bohemia. He stood as godparent to my great-grandfather in 1841 at Trieste. The Langer family was a business partner of the Pallme family in Italy (Trieste, Palermo, etc.) in the first-half of 19th century. c) WAGNER, that are descendants of Johan David Wagner (Glass trader in 1734) from either Steinschoenau or Parchen. d) HELZEL, that are descendants of Christian Martin Heltzel (born 1703 at Steinschoenau). e) GROHMANN, that are descendant of Franz Grohmann who was in 1818 "Rivierjaeger" at Hasel (near Bhoemisch Kamnitz). f) WEIDLICH, that are descendant of Daniel Weidlich who was Glasrefineur in 1869 at Steinschoenau. g) KLEPSCH, that are descendant of J. U. D. Klepsch living in 1869 at Böhmisch / Boehmisch Leipa.

RAMBOUSEK, Joseph
eMail address: angelacres@proaxis.com

I am looking for information on the Joseph RAMBOUSEK family. He and his wife, Marie SRSEN RAMBOUSEK emigrated to the United States in 1888 with their children, Agnes, Joseph, and Mary. They also brought his mother, Anna KREKEROVA Rambousek and her mother, Theresa HUNCOVSKY Srsen BENES. Their husbands, Vaclav Rambousek and Frank Srsen died in mill accidents in the Czech village in the Ukraine where they all lived before coming to the United States. Theresa Huscovsky Srsen then married (in the Ukraine) Joseph BENES who had two sons, Jan and Josef from a prior marriage. Theresa also left three adult children, Lenhardt, Rose, and Theresa (Rose or Theresa married a man named Peter DVORAK) in that Czech village which was named Czechohrad. Czechohrad was renamed Novgorodkivka in 1946. Their primary language was Bohemian and know that Anna Krekerova Rambousek was born in Chrudim in Bohemia around 1841. I believe her son Joseph Rambousek was born in Czechohrad in the Ukraine. The renamed village of Novgorodkivka in the Ukraine was described by older family members as on parcel 38, located 21 kilometers west of Melitopol. I can see it on a map of the Ukraine. I would like to locate someone from there so that I might learn more about my family members who did not come to the United States. And, if anyone knows how to make eMail contacts with someone in Chrudim in the Czech Republic, please let me know. Names of other friends or relatives who came to the United States in 1888 with the Rambousek and Srsen families are Vaclav WENZEL SADOWSKY, Joseph PAVLISH, John KINZEL and his son John Kinzel, Jr., Joseph HUSCHKA, Fred KOSTELECKY and Vincent URBANEC.

James (Vaclav) and Alzbeta (Elizabeth) SHULA emigrated to the US to Cleveland Ohio around 1902-1903. Alzbeta listed her home town as Domazlice and was born 28 October 1869. James was born 10 October 1865 at a town called Rakicaucy ?, spelling not sure. They arrived with one son Frank Peter who was one year old or younger. They lived at Cleveland Ohio for a short time and then went to Illinois and settled at Braidwood, Will county and Coal City, Grundy county Illinois. James died at Chicago 17 June 1925 of stomach cancer and Elizabeth at Chicago on 1 February 1925. They had two more children whil in this country: Helen, born 1907 ? and Maria born 1905, died 1918 at Grundy county, Illinois. They are buried in an old Bohemian Cemetery at Braidwood, Illinois. They claimed to the rest of our family that they had no relatives in the old country. I suspect there was some anger over them leaving Bohemia. I do not know where they were married nor what port they arrived in the US. Alzbeta's maiden name was HANA, and her mother's maiden name was ABL.

SKARKA, Gary W.
email address: gskarka@attmail.com

I need information on my ancestors. This I know to date: Gary W. SKARKA was born 11 January 1947 at Southampton, New York, USA. My father is Martin D. SKARKA, born 25 February 1924 at Gutenburg, New Jersey, USA. My grandfather was Frank SKARKA, born about 1900 at New York City, NY. My Great Grandfather's name was FRANZ JOSEF SKARKA (shown in 1900 Census as "Frank"), born April 1875 in Caslav, Bohemia, which is now The Czech Republic. He arrived in New York in 1885 at the age of 10. Circa 1896 he married FRANCES LEBINA (shown in the 1900 Census as "Fanny"). They lived at 1380 Ave. A, Yorkville, New York City, New York. At the time of the Census (16 June 1900) they had two children, Anton, born in 1898, and Emilie, born in 1899. My Grandfather, Frank, was not born at the time of this Census. He was born three weeks later on 7 July 1900. Subsequently, there was at least one other son, Otto. I am looking for any connections on this side of the Atlantic as well as over in Europe.

I have been in touch with a great many Skarka surnames, both in the US and in Europe. So far, I haven't made the connection to my branch. Any additional information on Franz Josef and his wife and any information on his ancestory will be greatly appreciated.

VENTURINI, Donna
eMail address: venturin@erols.com

I am searching for information on my husband's family. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Joseph (Josef) MOROSKO was born 1890 at Stropko. I am not sure of the spelling. He married there, then emigrated to America by himself. His wife, Anna MASLEJ, joined him later. From our understanding she had a brother named Michael. Anna was born 3 December 1894 at Stropko also but we are not sure of this. On the MOROSKO family we are told we have cousins with the last name of POPELISH and OBSUTHOVA.

WARD, Sharon
eMail address: soulprovider_@webtv.net

Paul BLASKO (born 27 September 1885, died 8 October 1941), emigrated from Austria-Hungary, married Mary MONDICH (born 16 November 1895, died 5 August 1977) in the United States in 1914 or 1915. They lived in Connecticut where they had relatives, then to Ohio, then to Indiana. His parents were Charles Blasko and Helen EASIK; hers were Charles Mondich and Helen CHRABA. Charles Mondich held the job of postmaster of his town. We are unsure of the spellings and exact towns: Velki Komjat and Kopanija. My grandparents spoke Hungarian, Slovak, and Russian fluently. I have also seen these names on a marriage certificate listing their parents as Basil Blasko and Helen CHIRABO; her parents as Basil Mondich and Helen ISAACK (since this marriage took place in New Jersey, USA these could be misspellings or the wrong certificate). This is all I know. It's been very hard for me to find anything out bcause everyone has died, and my mother is now 80 and has Alzheimer's so her memory comes and goes. I'd like to find relatives or just find something or somewhere where my grandparents came from. Blasko could have been shortened when he arrived in the United States, and I can't find Mondich listed anywhere. Thanks for your help.
