Background: Several years ago the President of the Moravian Heritage Society (Thomas W. Hrncirik, A.G.) started to build this Moravian Immigrant Database (MID) using Tam za moerm je Amerika, a bilingual Czech-English book, listing many emigrants from Moravia as well as Bohemia (Part I - 4 files below).

Later, members of the Moravian Heritage Society, as well as subscribers to its quarterly newsletter, Morava Krasna (edited by Helene Cincebeaux), submitted additional emigrant names and details to Tom to add to this database (Part II - 7 files below) and bring it to its present size of over 4,000 persons.

Tom is not only an active accedited genealogist (A.G.) With Czech and Morvaian specialites, he maintains a full time business in Visalia as an agricultural consultant in many western hemisphere countries. In an effort to make this database more accessable and available to Moravian record searchers worldwide, he contacted the FEEFHS Webmaster while a speaker at the FEEFHS 1999 International Convention in Van Nuys, California.

In the fall of 1999 FEEFHS agreed to post the MID on the web, in summary form, all the critical information in the MID with the exception of the street address, ZIP, telephone and FAX numbers of the submitters, due to privacy concerns. What appears now in this database is a second joint effort wwith Tom's help, to convert this database into a posted form on the web.

The MID Database: The original datbase was created on a MAC in the mid-1990's. Later it was transferred to a PC and placed on a customized version of FileMaker Pro software. In the fall of 1999 it was converted to a form of ASCII and an unsuccessful effort was made to post it. Part I was posted oiin June 2000. In January 2001 Part II was posted.

Tam za morem je Amerika This hot link will describe more about the primary source for the Part I of the MID database. This is the source of all the Moravian Database information from Part I, unless another source is listed. A list of the Czech words sometimes used to describe these immigrants is foud in this link.

Volunteer Database Assistant Sought by the MHS: Tom is now seeking a Moravian record searcher to assist the MHS with additions to the MID datbase, as well as vetting bonifide requests for detailed contact information regarding submitters. If you care to help do this function, please contact Tom Hrncirik, A.G. by eMail or by writing him at
