I am researching Baptist BENKLER, born in Baden, Germany in May
1822. He married Johanna (last name unknown), also from Baden,
Germany. Johanna was born 11 February 1825. They emigrated to
the U.S. and Baptist BENKLER served in the Civil War as a Captain
for an Ohio Volunteer Infantry unit. He died in 1883 and Johanna
died in 1880. They are both buried at Canal Fulton, Ohio. I am
aware of one child named Amelia Emma BENKLER who married Joseph
Frank MONG (it could also be spelled MANG) on 7 June 1900. I am
interested in finding the parents of Baptist and Johanna and any
immigration records that may be available.
CROMER, Buddy
14AUBURN@aol.com
(Methodist and Baptist)
I am looking for information on John Michael CROMER born 1706 in
Baden, Germany. His wife's name may have been Mary. She must
have died in Germany before John Michael immigrated to America
with his children in 1752. His three children were (all born in
Baden, Germany: Frederick born circa 1732; Jacob born circa 1733;
and Charlot born circa 1741. John Michael and his children lived
in Union South Carolina (Dutch Fork). John Michael received a
bounty of 200 acres from King George (Petition ... Council
Journal, Vol. 20, Pt. 2, page 533). He died in South Carolina.
The family's religions were Methodist and Baptist.
DONAHUE, Peggy Lee
eMail address: pllak48@earthlink.net
I am looking for info on my ancestors from Baden, Germany,
William LAUTENSCHLAGER and his wife, Magdalene PFEFFER. Both
were from Weisloch, Baden, Germany. William was born circa May
1855 and Magdalene was born circa June 1855. They had at least
one daughter, Caroline, around 1877, born in Germany, and
possibly two others. The parents of Magdalene PFEFFER were
William and Elizabeth PFEFFER. William and Magdalene
LAUTENSCHLAGER came to America in 1881 or 1882. I would
appreciate any info on this family. My father is 83 and really
wants to know who his ancestors are.
FRYMAN, James
eMail address: JFRYMAN1@aol.com
(Lutheran?, Methodist)
I am researching Barbara Louise WEISS born 17 March 1856 in
Baden, Germany. Her siblings were: Margaret WEISS, Mary WEISS,
and George WEISS. Barbara immigrated to the U.S. in 1871. In
the U.S. she was a Methodist, but she may have been Lutheran in
Germany. Barbara married 1) Jacob HERBER at Pomeroy, Ohio. He
died in 1888. She married 2) William Hudson FRYMAN at Pomeroy,
Ohio on 2 June 1888. (Note: The name FRYMAN was originally
FREYMAN in Germany.) She died at Canton, Ohio on 4 October
1935.
GERNHAUSER, Henry
eMail address: hankgern@ih2000.net
I am researching Anna Maria DIRMEYER born circa 1797 in Thringen
(near Amt Breisach), Baden, Germany. She married Emanuel BLESSIG
/ BLESSY at New Orleans, Louisiana in a Presbyterian ceremony
circa 1820. Emanuel was born circa 1797 at Strasbourg, France.
Anna Maria died 14 June 1855 at New Orleans, Louisiana. Emanuel
died 28 May 1825 atn New Orleans, Louisiana. Their children
were: Salonea Caroline, Maria Amelia, and Emanuel.
HELLER-CAMPBELL, Anna
eMail address: JCampb3461@aol.com
(Lutheran)
I'm looking for the parents of Conrad MAGNUS who may have been
born in Baden-Baden circa 1847. He married Eva RETZER on 22
October 1874 at Brooklyn, New York. Eva was born in Bavaria
circa 1850. Her parents are unknown. They had five children of
which only one lived, my grandmother, Anna Eva MAGNUS HELLER born
in 1879. Conrad lied about where he was born when he tried to
get into the Navy to fight in the Civil War. He told them he was
born in New York. On his death certificate, it states he was
born in Germany and lived 43 of his 45 years in New York. I
have his Civil War records and have found him in the Brooklyn
city directory. I have not been able to find ship records for
his family. I found the family in the 1880 census in Brooklyn,
NY. They both died in Brooklyn and are buried in the Lutheran
cemetery. Conrad died in 1893 and Eva died in 1899.
HOTZ, Timothy
eMail address: thotz@reliable-net.net
I am looking for information on Franz Joseph HOTZ, born in 1832.
On his enlistment papers for the Army, his birthplace was listed
as Kingsing, Baden. The closest spelling to this that I have
been able to find is Kenzingen. I'm not sure when he left Baden,
but he immigrated to America, arriving at New York on 6 July
1853. He settled in Vallonia, Jackson county, Indiana. His
wife's name was Maria CHRIST or CRIST, born in Hanover, Germany
in 1842. Her father's name was John Phillip CHRIST or CRIST.
Maria and Franz Joseph were married on 22 January 1860 at
Brownstown, Indiana. Their children were: Carolina born about
1860, died about January 1863; and Joseph Carl born 6 July 1863.
Franz Joseph HOTZ died in the Civil War, 28 March 1863 at
Spanish Port, Alabama. Maria married two more times after that
and died 4 August 1898 in Jackson county Indiana.
JOHANN, Ernestine
eMail address: ernestispeg@hotmail.com
(Evangelical Lutheran)
I am trying to find the village my gr-grandfather, Adam Georg (or
Georg Adam) JOHANN emigrated from Baden, Germany in 1850 to come
to the U.S. The village was near Heidelberg. He landed at New
York in October 1850 and settled at Richmond, Virginia. He was
Evangelical Lutheran. He married Margaret DIETRICH SCHILL.
SCHILL was the name of a former husband. She had a daughter,
Barbara SCHILL, by her first husband. Margaret was a native of
Switzerland. Adam was buried in Shockoe Cemetery at Richmond,
Virginia 2 April 1877, so I assume he died the end of March 1877.
Adam and Margaret had only one son, Adam Ernest JOHANN, my
grandfather. I would also like to find the names of Adam Georg's
parents. According to my father, Ernest George JOHANN, who died
in 1962, his grandfather, Adam George, worked as a bookkeeper at
the Tredegar Iron Works at Richmond, Virginia. The iron works
hired many immigrants, both German and Irish. Ernest's son, Adam
Ernest, studied for the Lutheran ministry, but became a
pharmacist and owned his own drugstore at Richmond, Virginia.
JONES, Elizabeth
eMail address: anhmom@yahoo.com
I am searching for information on the parents of Mathias /
Matthias / Matheus FINER / FIENER, and also confirmation of his
birthdate and place of birth. The information I have on him so
far is that when he was 28 years old, he emigrated from
Rotterdam, Holland on the ship "Gale" in the summer of 1751. If
this is true, he was born about 1723. The ship list gives his
name as Mattheus FINER; age 28; from Friesenheim; trade, farmer.
He made his home at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, and married
Anna Barbara MEISNER on 24 September 1753. The IGI says he was
born about 1723 at Friensenhiem, Baden, Baden. I have also heard
that he came from Baden-Durlach. I believe that his religion was
either Anglican or Lutheran.
McCRAE, Sarah
eMail address: Mccrazies@juno.com
I am looking for information on my gr-grandfather, John
STEURENTHALER, who was born in Baden, Germany and immigrated to
the U.S. at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana 23 April 1889. He
was listed as 24 years of age when he applied for citizenship on
28 October 1890, according to the Probate Minutes, County Court,
Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas. He listed Baden, Germany as
his place of birth and I estimate his date of birth was 1866.
His brother Konrad STEURENTHALER immigrated to the port of New
York on 7 November 1893. Konrad was 25 on 5 November 1894, and
he applied for citizenship at San Antonio, Texas. Konrad listed
his birth place as Hindergarden (Hinterzardten?), Germany. John
married Ida BRAUN in Texas and had two children: Anna, born 20
April 1901, and Ervin, born 3 June 1897. John died 24 November
1904; Ida died 20 August 1951; Anna died 16 April 1988; and Ervin
died 16 August 1929. All died at San Antonio, TX, except Anna.
She died at Perth Amboy, New Jersey. I do not have any other
information on Konrad. In fact, I do not see him listed on any
Texas census records. As for their religion, I believe it was
Catholic.

NIEMER, Rita
eMail address: Loviti@aol.com
I am searching for Carl HUMMEL, born in Baden, Germany and his
wife Philomena (last name unknown) of Baden. Their daughter,
Rosalia HUMMEL, married John George METZNER. Rosalia was born 12
March 1838. She immigrated to the U.S. around the 1850's and
settled at Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio. Other daughters of
Carl and Philomena were: Sophia HUMMEL, married Joseph GEISSLER
(born in Baden circa 1829) and Catherine HUMMEL.
OBERT, John
eMail address: obertclan@worldnet.att.net
I am a 9th generation OBERT and am tracing my family's lineage.
I'm looking for others researching the OBERD / OBERT family of
Baden, Germany. My 6th great grandfather, Matthacus OBERD, who
was born in Baden, Germany. He married Maria REICHARD. They had
at least one son, Petrus OBERD, who was born 29 June 1729 at
Volkersbach, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Petrus married Magdalena
HENHOFFER (nee REITER) in Mar 1759 at Volkersbach, Germany.
Petrus and Magdalena had at least one son, Caspar OBERT born 6
Jan 1766 at Volkersbach also. Caspar married Maria Anna KUNZ in
Aprl 1793 at Burbach, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Caspar and
Maria had at least four children: Caspar born November 1801 at
Burbach; Peter born May 1803 at Burbach; Mathias born November
1808 at Burbach; and Otillia born May 1811 at Burbach. Peter is
my 3rd great grandfather and he married Barbara GLASER October
1826 at Burbach and had one children, Caroline OBERT, born July
1827 at Burbach. I would like to know if Matthacus OBERD had any
other children born to him and Maria, and if so, whom and when.
Also would like the same information for my Petrus OBERD and
Magdalena. Our family started out as Roman Catholic, but I've
come to understand that changed when some emigrated to America to
avoid persecution. I need information on whether Matthacus,
Petrus, or Caspar had any other siblings or relatives. Also need
is Matthacus's parents, if available. Any additional information
on others mentioned above would also be appreciated.
OLSEN, Sylvia
eMail address: solson@uslink.net
I am seeking information on my great grandfather, Marianus
GREULICH, born 25 March 1830, somewhere near the town of Walldurn
in the north part of Baden, Germany. He was the youngest of five
sons. His father was the son of a baron and was the largest
landowner in the village where they lived. He had 100 acres of
land, divided in 80 pieces scattered around the village.
Marianus took part in the rebellion of 1848. He immigrated to
New York in 1852. I do not know what religion they were.
Marianus GREULICH changed his name to John MYER when the work
gang foreman put that name down for him because he said that
Marianus' given name was too difficult for him. John married
Harriet Emily FINN (born 29 July 1838; died 2 April 1900) on 20
March 1856. John died 17 December 1907 or 1908 and is buried at
Penfield, New York. John and Harriet had the following children:
Charles, Dora, William, Hattie, Anna, Louis, Frank (my
grandfather), Grace, John, Carrie, and George.

PERRENOUD, Kamee
email address: ozzywild@hotmail.com
I am researching Paul Feodor HEIMBERGER, born 31 May 1871 in

York City circa 1891 and he married Minnie SCHWARZ in 1894 at
Brooklyn, New York. They were married by a Lutheran, J.P.
BEYER, from St. Johannes Church on Maujer and Graham Avenue.
Minnie was born in July 1872 in New York. Paul and Minnie had
two children: Paul Jr., born 1895 and Louisa born 1900. He then
married my great grandmother, Clara BISCHOFF, in 1911 at

Fern Maurice, born 1913; Margaret (married CROCKETT), born 1916;
Francis Amelia, born 1919; Erma Lillian, born 1925; and Ruth
Elizabeth, born 1925. Paul supposedly came to the U.S. with a
brother and I would like to find information about him. I am
also looking to find the exact city of his birth and records of
his family in Germany, and would like to contact descendants of
his marriage to Minnie SCHWARZ.
RINE, Sandi JETMORE
eMail address: pebu@pe.net
I am researching my great grandfather, John Isaac JETMORE, born
in Baden-Baden in 1798, and is said to have immigrated to the
United States when he was 18 (circa 1816). He married Mary
BRANNON in 1821 (not confirmed) at New York City (not confirmed).
John and Mary had the following children (there may have been two
more): David, Nathan, Abraham, Jacob, Samson, Levi, Isaac, and
Elizabeth. The family lived in Ohio and then moved to Muncie,
Delaware county, Indiana. John Isaac died at Muncie, Indiana 2
February 1863. I have an article about one of John and Mary's
sons who lived in Kansas. In the article it says that John Isaac
was educated at Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. I have been unable
to find any information about John Isaac before he came to the
United States. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
SCHILLING, George
eMail address: GTSBABOO@aol.com
I am seeking information on my SCHILLING ancestors. Acobina
Katherine (maiden name unknown) born 27 February 1804 at
Neulusheim, Baden, Germany, died at age 93 in February 1897 at
Pomeroy, Ohio. Her husband, George Henry KUNNATZ died 1831 in
Germany. Acobina KUNNATZ lived at Pomeroy for 46 years. The
family was apparently Lutheran. Acobina left a surviving
daughter, Mrs. Margaret SCHILLING. I need information on the
husband of Margaret SCHILLING. Acobina also left 7 living
grandchildren (including John SCHILLING of Logansport, Indiana,
my grandfather; George Adam SCHILLING of Chicago (who was born 24
August 1850 in Baden, Germany; Mrs. F.W. STEINBAUER; and Miss
Katie SCHILLING). She also left 22 great grandchildren and 3
great great grandchildren. From a different source, I have
information that the parents of George Adam SCHILLING of Chicago
were of the revolutionary element in 1848 and immigrated in 1852
to Pomeroy, Ohio and that he lived at 1453 Marquette Road at
Chicago. My father, George A. SCHILLING, was born in October
1891 or 1892 at Zanesville, Ohio. His parents were John
SCHILLING of Logansport, Indiana and his mother was named
Elizabeth. George had three sisters: Margaret WHITE of Detroit,
Michigan; Mamie LYTLE of Detroit, Michigan; and Emma VASVARY of
Miami, Florida.
STERN, Craig
eMail address: bstern@pacbell.net
(Protestant)
I am researching Henry STERN or STERNHEIMER believed to have been
born circa 1832 in Baden, Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. on
the ship "Zurich". He married Emily ARMSTRONG (from Bourbon,
Kentucky) at Arcata, California around 1854. They had five
children, all born in Arcata, CA: Bernard Frank, born 4
June 1856; Oscar David (twin), born 9 January 1859; Lewis Edgar
(twin), born 9 January 1859, died 17 October 1859; George
Douglas, born 24 February 1861; and Henry Stewart, born 25 August
1862. Henry STERN died on board a steamship leaving Eureka bound
for San Francisco in 1862 and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery
at Arcata, California. The family religion is unknown to me; it
may have been Episcopalian or Presbyterian. I located some
paperwork in Eureka that indicated that Henry had changed his
name from STERNHEIMER to STERN. Although the passenger list for
him and his brother, David, says the name is STERN. I am
assuming that they shortened their name before leaving Germany.
Henry's brother, David STERN, arrived in New York on 8 Jul 1848
on the Bark (ship) "Euclid" which departed from Bremen, Germany.
According to the 1860 census, he married a woman named Frances
from Hanover. On the 1860 census, David claims to be 36, which
means he was born circa 1824. David and Frances had five
children: Jacob, born 1851 in New York; Caroline, born 1853 in
New York; Henry, born 1855 in California; Sigmund, born 1857 in
California; and Louis, born 1859 in California. I am assuming
that the births of the children born in California took place in
San Francisco.
STOWE, John
eMail address:stowe@execpc.com
I am seeking information on George EBERT, born in Baden in 1823,
and married Mary Ann HAPPY, who was born 1820 in Baden. Mary Ann

My great grandmother, Emilie KINDORF, was born in Stockmatt,
Kreis Loerrach, Baden, Germany in 1862. The KINDORF / KUNDORF
family was first found in this area in the 1770's. My earliest
ancestor is Hans Georg KUNDORF, father of Johann Jacob KUNDORF,
born 10 November 1777 at Ebigen, Kreis Loerrach, Baden, Germany.
I would like to know where the KUNDORF family was located before
the 1770s.
WEBB, Pamela C.
eMail address: CWebb13734@aol.com
I am seeking information on Johann Joseph LINK and his wife,
Helena KLEIN of Baden, Germany. Helena was born about 1802 in
Germany and died at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri in June 1852. I
don't know anything about Johann or when he and Helena married.
Family tradition says that Johann died during the revolution and
that Helena and her children (Catherine, Genevieve, Francois,
Louise, Anton and Mary) immigrated to the U.S. in May 1852,
arriving in New Orleans. They traveled up the Mississippi to
Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. I need information on the parents and
or siblings of Johann and Helena.
