I'm trying to trace Sebastian GARTNER, born 2 February 1840 in
Baden, died 26 February 1919 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He
was the son of Malcolm GARTNER and Susan SHEARER. Sebastian
married Margaret SCHICKLING who was born 29 November 1844 in
Pennsylvania and died 29 November 1940 at Parkland, Pennsylvania.
Their children were: Mary, born 1867; Joseph, born 1870;
Frederick, born 1872; Benjamin, born 1875; Margaret, born 1876;
John, born 1878; and Herman, born 1882. The family was Roman
Catholic. Sebastian was a butcher and owned a slaughterhouse in
Philadelphia. I would like to find out where in Baden Sebastian
was born and the names of his siblings.
CHAMPION, Stephen

(German Evangelical)
I am researching Herman ZEUCH born about 1850 in Baden. He
married Emily HOFF or Amelia HOFF. She was born in 1855 in
Germany. They were married, I think in Germany, but I am not
sure. They emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio between 1870 and 1882.
They had three sons: Johann A. ZEUCH, born 18 June 1880; Henry
Theodor ZEUCH, born 28 November 1882; and Frederick Charles
ZEUCH, born in 1885. Herman died 3 November 1942 at Cleveland,
Ohio, and Emily died 20 October 1942 at Cleveland, Ohio. The
family's religion was Evangelical.
DERNER, Ann Derner

I am researching William MENTZ, born 29 June 1811 in Baden or
Prussia. He died 22 January 1872 in Wayne county, New York. He
married Wilhelmenia KRAUSS who was born 6 February 1812. She
died 2 November 1871 in Wayne county, New York. She had a sister
named Magdelena and a brother named John. Magdelena KRAUSS
married a man named Christopher HEINTZ. John KRAUSS married in
Pennsylvania. Who were the parents of William MENTZ and where
was he born?
FOERSCHLER, Diane
eMail Address: Diane.Foerschler@usoncology.com
We are researching the ancestry of August FOERSCHLER from
Frieburg, Baden, Germany. He married Katharina PETER on 21 July
1790 at Emmendingen, Freiburg, Baden. This is, unfortunately, is
as far back and all the information that we have been able to
gather. We think that the spelling of the name may have changed
from FORSCHLER to FOERSCHLER. The spelling of the last name
(surname) has been very difficult to trace and we have hit a
wall.
GIBSON, Doris RENSLAND
eMail address: 105641.3704@compuserve.com
(German Evangelical)
I am searching for members of the RENSLAND family. Philip Jacob
RENSLAND was born 1 February 1857 at Weinheim, Baden, Germany.
He married Amelia Matilda HENZE, born 25 June 1855 at
Brandenburg, Germany. Philip died 7 December 1926 at Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, and Amelia died 25 December 1913. Their children
were: 1) Maxmillian George RENSLAND, born 8 July 1879 at Berlin,
Germany, died 12 October 1960 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He
married Mary Ann MILLER 15 June 1904. Mary Ann was born 27
December 1880 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died 8 September
1937 at Pittsburgh. Their children were: Harry, George, Howard,
Marie and Robert. 2) Ella; 3) Frederick; 4) Emelia; 5) William;
and 6) Otto. Philip Jacob RENSLAND and his family emigrated to
the United States in 1882 and lived at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
They belonged to the German Evangelical Protestant Church at
Pittsburgh.
I have quite a bit of information on RENSLAND's who were born in
the United States, but I cannot tie them in with the
following men who came from Germany. I believe that they are all
related. I am hoping someone will be able to help. The name is
also spelled RENDSLAND and RENZLAND. Peter RENSLAND was born
1845 at Weinheim, Baden, Germany. He married Hannah ?, who was
born in 1856 in New York. They had one child, Clara. Harmon
RENSLAND, born 1845 at Weinheim, Baden, Germany, married
Catherine ?, born 1827 in Prussia. Their children were: Peter,
Gertrude, Catherine, John, Anna, Frank and Rosa. Luow (Lewis)
RENSLAND, born 23 May 1854, died 20 July 1919 at Cleveland, Ohio.
He married McLena LAMP, born in Germany, died 29 January 1936 at
Cleveland, Ohio. Their children were: Albert, Caroline,
William, Edith and Elsie. George Peter RENSLAND, born 1813 in
Germany. I have no other information except the name of his son,
Charles Conrad, born in New York.
HAWTHORNE, Gail

I am researching my great-grandfather, George UHRI, born in
Baden, Germany on 21 October 1838; died 28 September 1911 at New
York City, New York. His father's name was Andrew UHRI, born
1810. I believe the family emigrated from Germany to Missouri.
Andrew was married to Mary (last name unknown). The family's
religion was Catholic. This is all the information I have.
HORENSKY, Mary Grace "Herky"

(Roman Catholic)
I am trying to find information on Johann August SCHENKEL, born
1835 in Baden, Germany and his wife, Maria HARTWICK, born 1839 in
Baden, Germany. They are believed to have married in Germany.
They immigrated to the United States and settled at Rochester,
New York. Their children were: John Joseph born 16 May 1862 in
Rochester, New York (he later was amember of the Pennsylvania
state legislature); Frank born in Rochester, New York; Jacob W.
born 1873 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (also was a member of the
Pennsylvania state legislature); and Henry born 1877 in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Maria died in 1917. Johann and Maria
were both buried at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their religion was
Catholic.
INMAN, Lesa

(Roman Catholic)
I am seeking information on the following ancestors: 1) Fredolin
KNAPPS was born in Oberkirch, Baden, Germany in 1854. His name
appears as FREDOLIN in the Bible record I have, as well as on his
naturalization paper. He became a U.S. citizen on 10 November
1887 at St. Louis, Missouri. On his son's birth certificate, he
is listed as Franz. FREDOLIN died 16 November 1901 at
Leavenworth, Kansas. He married Marie Ana KERN at Leavenworth,
Kansas in March 1880. He was 26 and she was 25. Mary Ann, as
Marie Ana came to be known, died at Leavenworth, Kansas on 27
February 1939. After Fredolin died, she married a Mr. BAKER and
then "Old HIGGINS." Fredolin and Mary had three children: Henry
(born at Leavenworth), Frank Matthew (born at St. Louis - raised
at Leavenworth), and Cecelia (died in infancy). The family's
religion was Roman Catholic. 2) Mary Ann was the daughter of
Matthias KERN who, according to a Bible record, was also from
Baden. He was born 22 January 1827 and died 2 January 1910 at
Leavenworth, Kansas. His wife's name was Cecelia (last name
unknown). I know that they traveled (immigrated) to America on
the same ship from Germany and were married in Oct 1853 in
Pennsylvania (presumably at Philadelphia). I assume that they
arrived in Philadelphia in 1853. Cecelia was born 18 November
1834. They were married in the "Maryvienstadtum" (justice of the
peace at city hall). The family's religion was Catholic. 3)
Frank Matthew (Matthias) KNAPPS married Lillian B. HUFFMAN on 10
April 1917. He died 3 October 1958 at Kansas City, Missouri.
KEENER, Jane
eMail Address: jane_keener@hotmail.com
(Baptists ?)
I am researching my ancestor, Johann WEISS, who was known as John
WHITE when he married Nancy GIBSON in Platte county Missouri in
1843. Johann / John was born in 1821 in Baden, Germany. Some
reports say he immigrated by freighter from Wales to New York at
the age of 14. Johann / John and Nancy both died in Tarrant
county Texas. The only child I know about is John B. WHITE, who
married Isabella WISE. I have been unable to trace Nancy GIBSON.
Some sources say that she was born in Alabama. I believe that
the family members were Baptists, but I am not sure. I am trying
to find out how John got to Missouri, as well as when and how he
traveled (immigrated) to the United States.
KOPP-SANCHEZ, Lyn
email Address: lyndan@coastaccess.com
I am searching for the names of the parents of August KOPP, born
20 November 1868, died 7 July 1916 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.
He married Katharina FAGER at Karlsruhe. She was born 19 August
1868 at Karlsruhe and immigrated to the U.S. in 1922. She died
at Los Angeles 14 December 1939. She had seven brothers and I
need information on the whole FAGER family. I also need
information on August KOPP's brother, Wilhelm KOPP, and his
family.
LEUTZ, Karen
eMail Address: jal@solarstop.net
(Lutheran)
I am researching the LEUTZ family from Neckar-Wimmersbach, Baden,
Germany. Georg Peter LEUTZ was born at Neckar-Wimmersbach in
September 1838. He died January 1840, the place of death is
unknown. He married Christina Margretha GEHRIG (birth and death
dates unknown), daughter of Johann Georg GEHRIG and Anne
Elisabeth ZEISINGER, on 30 January 1833. Their children (all
born at Neckar-Wimmersbach) were: Johann Georg, Georg Frederick,
and Georg Peter. The children were 6, 4 and 2 respectively when
their father died. Christina then married Michael EMRIG,
sometimes spelled EMRICH. The LEUTZ family in Germany and the
U.S. were Lutheran. Johann Georg LEUTZ immigrated to New Jersey
in 1853 when he was 19 years old and learned the trade of
shoemaking. He moved to Toledo, Ohio and married Mary WEITZEL.
Mary had come to Toledo at the age of 12. Mary's death
certificate states that she was born 30 July 1843 at New York,
and her father was Henry WEITZEL. Mary died 1 November 1922 in
Toledo, Ohio and she is buried at Forest Cemetery. Georg
Frederick LEUTZ then immigrated to the U.S. It was much later in
his life as he was married to Adelheide RUPP in Germany and had
children. He traveled back and forth to the U.S. before finally
settling in Toledo and then moving to Monroe Co., Michigan to
live out the rest of his life.
Georg Peter LEUTZ is the missing link. I have the following
English translation from the records in the death and funeral
book of the Lutheran-Protestant community of Neckar-Wimmersbach.
In the year of 1840, on January 12 in the morning ten o'clock
died at Wimmersbach and was buried on January 14 in the afternoon
at 2 o'clock, Georg Peter LEUTZ, age 36 and 1 month, married
citizen and farmer at Wimmersbach. His father is the late ?
local ? citizen and farmer, Georg Michael LEUTZ and his mother,
Susanna Kathrina, maiden name GEHRIG. Witnesses were the two
citizens and day laborers, Konrad ? and Georg Peter HOTZNER,
Eberback January 14, 1840. Since Georg Peter was only two when
his real father died, I am assuming (since I cannot find a record
of him in Germany or that he came to the United States) that
possibly he took on the name of his stepfather, Michael EMRIG /
EMRICH, either through a legal adoption or just took on his name.
We have letters written by Michael EMRIG to Georg Frederick LEUTZ
that are 120 years old, but they do not mention Georg Peter
LEUTZ.
LICHTENWALD, Hugh
eMail address: chief29105@yahoo.com
(Evangelical Lutheran)
I am seeking confirmation that the two persons named Heinrich
LICHTENWALD (shown below) are the same person; information on any
LICHTENWALD relations to Heinrich that stayed in Germany; and any
information on descendants which I can tie my lineage to (back to
Wilhelm LICHTENWALD and Christina KAISER of Doenhof, Russia in
the 1850's / 1860's). Heinrich LICHTENWALD, born about 1739 at
Baden-Durlach, Germany; died at Doenhof, Russia. He married
Maria Barbara (unknown surname), born about 1742 (place unknown,
but I assume Baden-Durlach). She died at Doenhof, Russia. They
had a son, Christian Friedrich born about 1765 (probably in
Germany). The family's religion was Evangelical Lutheran.
According to a quote from Pleve charts, "The surname LICHTENWALD
lived at the Doenhof colony. June 18, 1767, at Doenhof colony
the peasant from Baden-Durlach has arrived, Heinrich LICHTENWALD,
28 years. The wife Maria Barbara, 25, the son Christian
Fridrich, 1,5. The family has arrived in Russia, in Oranenbaum
(near St. Petersburg), June 3, 1766, on the ship 'Adler'."
The second Heinrich LICHTENWALD was born about 1738, unknown
location in Germany, died at Doenhof, Russia. He was married to
Margaret / Margareta ALTERGOTT, born about 1738 in Germany, died
at Doenhof, Russia. Their children were: Johann Christian, born
1763 in Germany; Christian Friedrich born 1767 at Doenhof,
Russia; Ludwig Friedrich, born 1769 at Doenhof, Russia; Katarina
Elizabeta born 1772 at Doenhof, Russia; Johann Heinrich born 1775
at Doenhof, Russia; Johann Martin born 1776 at Doenhof, Russia;
and Katarina Margareta born 1778 at Doenhof, Russia. This
information was taken from IGI family group record 273394.

I'm looking for the SCHEPPELE family in Baden-Baden, Germany.
They supposedly had a winery there and supplied the monks, nuns
and priests with wine. John George SCHEPPELE was born in or
around Baden-Baden, Germany. He is not thought to have emigrated
to the United States. He married Katherine STROHBACH and had
three children (all born in the late 1860's): Frederick
Christian, Katherine, and John George. Katherine died and he
married Katherine HARTMANN and had three children (all born in
the late 1870's and early 1880's): Carl, Christina, and Simon /

I am searching for the town of origin and parent's names of my
grandfather, Frank Xavier SCHNEIDER, born in Baden, Germany on 24
June 1861. He emigrated to the United States when he was 14
years old with two brothers, named Andrew and Louis. His parents
died when he was very young, so he may have lived with a foster
family. He was Roman Catholic and told of running away from
home over the Alps to emigrate to the United States. He settled
at St. Paul, Minnesota where he met and married Mary FLORIAN in
the late 1880's. He lost contact with his brothers who were said
to have emigrated from Baden-Baden to the Dakotas.

their children were born at Buffalo, New York. I have
information about the WANDER / WANDERER family dating back to
1450, but I am unable to connect my family to this information.
Who were John WANDER's family, where were they from, and when did
they emigrate to America? Any data relative to this query would
be appreciated.
