been spelled Willhelm and William in records. The children of
Wilhelm and Amelia were: 1) Augusta TONK - married Paul ENGLEMAN,

CORIO, Jean

(Roman Catholic)
I am researching my great-grandfather, Karl BURKHARDT / BURKHART
and his family in Germany. Karl was born in 1868 in Stuttgart to
Valentin / Ferdinand BURKHARDT / BURKHART (who was possibly from
Heidelberg and born in 1834) and Catharina BURCKHARDT /
BURKHARDT. Karl emigrated in 1889 to Altoona, PA along with
sisters, Louisa (SCHEELER) born 1865 and Wilhemina (ALBRECHT /
MOEN) born 1873. The family was Catholic in Germany. Siblings
in Germany were Valentin, Ferdinand and Lina. The only other
family info we have is that twin BURKHARDT boys from Germany were
killed in World War I. There were relatives in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania - an Adolph and his son, Robert BURKHARDT /
BURKHART, who visited my grandfather, Charles BURKHART, in
Altoona, PA Any help in completing our German family tree would
be greatly appreciated.
DENNIS, Janalyn
eMail address: tjdennis2@worldnet.att.net
I am searching for any information on Otto Armond BOLLER born 1
July 1884 in Baden Baden, Germany. He emigrated to the United
States some time before 1913 as he married Gladys NOLAND in the
United States that year. He died 20 February 1956 at
Minneapolis, Minnesota. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
FINKENAUR, Allen
eMail address: afinkenaur@snet.net
I am researching Georg FINKENAUER (we think that was his name in
Germany) born in Baden, Germany on 9 June 1817. He emigrated to
the U.S. in 1840-1845. He changed his name to FINKENAUR when he
moved to the U.S. He married Elizabeth (Eliza) REYNOLDS,
believed to have been born in Ireland. She died at Macon,
Georgia on 4 May 1898 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery at
Macon, GA. We think she lived near or in the same building as
the FINKENAURS before the time of their marriage. We also
believe she was in the seamstress business. Georg died 14 June
1871 at New York City, NY. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery at
New York City, NY. We have found him in the 1860 and 1870 census
of New York City. He first lived at 118 Amity Street (now 3rd
Avenue) where his first child, Ann FINKENAUR, was born 4 October
1846. She was baptised in St. Joseph's Church, 371 6th Avenue,
New York City, NY on 4 October 1846. Church records do not
mention Georg's marriage or any other children. Ann FINKENAUR
married Caleb LEONARD and they had a son, Frederick LEONARD.
The FINKENAURS later moved to 361 6th Avenue and lived there from
1850 to 1855; then to 438 6th Avenue and lived there from 1855 to
1870; and then to 118 West 19th Street where George died. George
and his sons were in the art store business and made and sold
frescos. We believe Georg's first son, George Washington
FINKENAUR, was born at New York City, NY. He died 13 December
1907 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery. Georg also had the
following children: Josephine FINKENAUR, died 10 June 1877,
buried in Greenwood Cemetery; William B. FINKENAUR (we have a
complete history of his family); and Eugene F. FINKENAUR (we have
a complete history of his family). One census says Georg came
from Baden. He was naturalized 24 October 1856 and in this
document he states he renounces allegiance to the King of
Bavaria. We understand that he came through Castle Gardens when
he arrived in New York City.
FORD, Dorothy

(Jewish)
I am researching my gr-grandfather, Solomon BACH, born 4 December
1841 in Baden-Baden, Germany. He emigrated to the United States
about 1860-1861 and settled in New Orleans, LA. He married
Amelie DEPASS in the 1880's. He died 26 March 1823 and is buried
in Hebrew Rest #2 at New Orleans, LA. Both he and his wife were
Jewish.
GERBER, Janet
eMail address: jmgerb@accnorwalk.com
I am looking for information on Johannes ZUREICH, born around
1858, who married Catherine HILBERT, born around 1859 (daughter
of Richard HILBERT), in Huron County, Ohio. Johannes died in
Ohio in 1941 and Catherine died 17 January 1928 in Ohio. They had
family in Cincinnati, Ohio who spelled their name ZUREICK. I
found the name Johannah ZUREICH in some church records. She must
have also been born in Germany. There is also a Maria ZUREICH
who was born around 1857. I am also looking for Ulhart ZUREICH
and Catherine ZOLLER. I obtained these names from the US Social
Security Death Index. They were the parents of Hugo ZUREICH,
born 25 April 1895 in Germany. I suspect that Ulhart and
Johannes were brothers. These people were said to have all been
from Baden-Baden, Germany. As far as I know, they were Catholic.
As the family story goes, either Johannes or Ulhart was the mayor
of Baden-Baden. Most of the family worked for the railroad when
they came to America.
GIESER, Rick
eMail address: geezball@aol.com
I need help finding the parents of Jonas GIESER whom family
stories say came from Baden-Wurttemberg. Jonas was born in 1825
and supposedly served in the military in Baden. He came to the
U.S. in the 1850's and settled at Aurora, Illinois. He was
naturalized a U.S. citizen in 1860. He married Eva WEIGAND, a
recent immigrant from Bavaria, in 1857. The family story is that
Jonas GIESER came to the U.S. with a brother whose name is not
known, there was a feud, and the brother moved to Minnesota.
Jonas' wife Eva is buried in a Catholic cemetery at Aurora, IL,
while Jonas is buried in a non-denominational cemetery. I
believe he was a non-practicing Lutheran.
HEER, Jennifer
eMail address: jheer1@uic.edu
(Lutheran)
I am looking for information about my family in Germany and after
they came to the U.S. My great-great-great-grandfather, John
Christian HEER, was born at Beitigheim, Baden, Germany in 1796.
He married twice. With his first wife (name unknown), he had
four children: Henry; John C., Jr.; Peter; and a daughter (name
unknown) who stayed in Germany. His children from his second
marriage to Christinia HAUSCH? were: David H., Christina, and
Daniel. We think they were all Lutheran. When John Christian
HEER Sr. was 13 years old, he won a scholarship contest
given by the King (we have no way of finding out more about
this). In 1840, the family emigrated to Buffalo, NY and then on
to Jo Daviess County, Illinois where they farmed. So, basically
they left before most of the other Germans. John C. Sr. and
David were doctors of veterinary medicine. John C. HEER Sr. also
served in a war as an army surgeon in 1815 in Germany. Can
anyone help me find some records to support any of this?
HORENSKY, Mary Grace SHENKEL
eMail address: MHorensky@aol.com
I am seeking information on Friedrich SCHENKEL and his wife,
Elizabeth GUENTHER. Their son, Johann A. SCHENKEL, was born in
Baden-Baden, Germany 13 September 1835. Johann emigrated to
America and died at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Johann had a son
named John Joseph SHENKEL born 16 May 1862 at Rochester, NY.
This must be about the time that the "c" was dropped from the
SCHENKEL name.
HUNTER, Floyd
eMail address: Floydhunte@aol.com
I am looking for the parents of Anton / Antone VOLLMER, born 31
December 1832 in Baden, Germany, emigrated to Illinois, and died
in Macon County, Illinois on 2 March 1920. Anton / Antone was
the son of Sylvester VOLLMER and Magdalina SLACHKER, both
probably in Germany. SLACHKER may not be the correct spelling.
Anton / Antone was the fifth child born, but I do not know the
names of the other children. Anton / Antone married Mary Ann
SWARTZ.

MELOY, Luz
eMail address: Luzel@aol.com
I am searching for information on John F. BRONN, born at
Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany in 1803. He married Marie ? from
Alsace Lorraine around 1835-1836. They had one daughter, Martha,
born in France in 1837. We have John's declaration of intention

Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden. The application is dated 26 June
1852 and is entered in the records of the county courthouse in
San Francisco. He became a U.S. citizen in 1857.

MULLIN-MEISSNER, Suzanne
eMail address: smullin@kiva.net
(Protestant)
I need assistance locating information on Cosmos BUERKLE and his
parents, Arthur and Anna BUERKLE, from Baden, Germany. We
believe that they were Protestant. We have pieced together that
Cosmos was born 12 December 1864 in Baden-Baden, Germany, though
we have been unable to confirm this information in Baden-Baden
church records. Family stories suggest that Cosmos emigrated
alone to the U.S. (port of entry unknown) in the early 1880's.
He settled at Newark, New Jersey; married Mathilda FUCHS in 1901;
and died in 1927. Any information on the BUERKLE family in Baden
would be very much appreciated.
REITZ, David
eMail address: seychelles@igalaxy.net
I am looking for information on John Henry DAMBACHER born in
Baden, Germany in 1825. His father's name was Christian. In
1840 he came to America and arrived in Boston. About 1848 he
came to California and located in Columbia where he was looking
for gold. In 1851 he returned to Boston and married Barbara
KLIEN who was also from the same part of Germany. They stayed in
Boston for several years where at least one son was born, John
Henry DAMBACHER II. About 1854 they sailed to San Francisco via
the Panama Canal and then returned to Columbia, California. John
died in 1878 and Barbara on 2 May 1903. Both are buried in
Columbia, California, along with several other family members.
I'm looking for information on the family in Germany and any
information about John Henry while in the Boston area. I have
very little information on Barbara KLIEN and any information on
her is appreciated.

Seeking information on George SCHUMACHER born in Baden, Germany
on 5 January 1828. He married Catharina Barbara FUSSLER who was
born in Baden, Germany on 22 May 1822. They emigrated to America
around 1844, via Staten Island, NY, and settled in Erie, PA. I
have some records that list George's father as Johnathan
SCHUHMACHER born in Baden, and Catherine's father as Ernst
FEUSSLER, also born in Baden. George and Catherine had ten
children, all born at Erie, Pennsylvania. George died in 1904
in Washington State and Catherine died in Kansas. Any

SCHNEIDER, Teri
eMail address: ICMOM@aol.com
(Roman Catholic)
My great grandfather was Albert E. SCHNEIDER, born in Germany
about 1869 (relatives said he was from the Black Forest). Albert
emigrated and became a baker at Alpena, Michigan. He married
Barbara MERTLE who is listed as being from both Ohio and
Kentucky. Albert died at age 42 in February 1911. His obituary
in the Alpena Argus lists survivors as "the widow and six
children," as well as a brother, Charles SCHNEIDER, formerly of
Alpena. One of the six children was Albert George SCHNEIDER, my
grandfather. I have no information on the SCHNEIDERs. I have
been in contact with a MERTLE who lives in Newport, KY, which is
right across the river from Ohio. His mother was a SCHNEIDER and
he told me that "the MERTLEs and the SCHNEIDERTs have been
intermarried since they were in Germany". He also said that
there were some (I don't know whether he meant MERTLE or
SCHNEIDER family members) who ran a brewery at Marietta, Ohio.
He said that they were all from the German Black Forest and all
Catholic.
SZLAVICH, Ronda SCHICK
eMail address: Kidz4TKLC@aol.com
I am looking for the surname SCHICK from Baden, Germany. George
SCHICK born about 1833 married Elizabeth HENOLD born about 1834.
They were probably married in Germany. They were naturalized in
1864 in New York, New York. The only child I know about is
George SCHICK, Jr. born September 1873. He married Lena STEGER
(born January 1878) on 30 June 1894.

eMail address: SueSue1950@aol.com
I am researching Catharine WERLIN from Baden, Germany and her
husband, Johannes TRONDLE (son of Johannes TRONDLE), married in
1780. Johannes and Catharine WERLIN TRONDLE moved to Sarrebruck
after the birth of their son, also named Johannes TRONDLE, in
1785. Johannes TRONDLE (born 1785) married Marguerrite GILSINGER
in 1815. Johannes and Marguerrite TRONDLE had a son, Jean
Baptist TROENDLE in 1820. He married Catharine EBERHARD in 1841.
The spelling of TRONDLE was changed to TROENDLE when the French
official registered Jean's birth. The name is from a fishing
village in Trondle, Norway.
WUERTENBERG, Joseph Jr.
eMail address: WUERTENBER@aol.com>
I am researching Joseph WUERTENBERGER born in Baden, Germany in
1823. He emigrated to America, sailing at age 27 in 1850, landed
at New Orleans and continued on to St. Louis, Missouri by boat.
He married Mary Ann BENNIGEN on 2 November 1854. Shortly after
their marriage, they moved to Kimmswick, Missouri. Mary Ann
came to America from Alsace Lorraine, France by steamship with
her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Frank NONSING. Joseph
received his U.S. citizenship 13 October 1866 and his Missouri
citizenship 30 Sep 1868. Joseph died 15 May 1901 at Kimmswick,
MO. The children of Joseph WUERTENBERGER and Mary Ann BENNIGEN
WUERTENBERGER were: Frank (died at age 2); Philip (died at
birth); Margaret; Louise (married TEGMEYER); and Jacob
born 16 November 1864 (at Kimmswick, Missouri or St. Louis,
Missouri).
Jacob WUERTENBERG (1864) married Anna RITTEL on 20 December 1887.
They had 13 children: George; William (born 13 June 1891 in
Kimmswick or St. Louis, MO, died 22 May 1964); Phillip (born 17
January 1893, died 5 July 1978); Anna, married MILLER (born 4
November 1894, died 12 November 1982); Rose, married BUECHTING
(born 25 October 1896, died 26 July 1926); Otto (born 6 May 1898,
died 16 August 1976; Lizzie (twin--died at birth); Bertha
(twin--died at 3 days old); Laura (still living); Christina,
married KLABLE (still living); Gussie; and Leona, married PAUL
(still living).
Before leaving Germany, Joseph WUERTENBERGER was Catholic; at one
time they were affiliated with the Methodist Church on 9th Street
in St. Louis, Missouri. Later they joined an Evangelical Church
in Kimmswick, Missouri which gave them a Christian burial when
they died. The rumor is that Joseph WUERTENBERGER was
superstitious and dropped the "er" from WUERTENBERGER to
WUERTENBERG because it had 13 letters.
