I am searching for the ancestors of Jakob ULLINGER, born 1834 at
Morbach, Rhine-Bavaria, Germany. Jakob left Germany for London,
England sometime before 1858. His father is listed on his
marriage certificate as Peter ULLINGER, a carpenter and
stonemason. The family was Lutheran.

I am searching for the ancestors and descendants of Conrad
ZACHERETH born about 1664 who died in 1740 at Leizenhoff /
Leuzenhof in the parish of Pappenberg, Bavaria. His wife was
BARBARA (last name unknown). Conrad and Barbara had a son,
Johann, who married Catherina BROESL in 1722 at Langenbruck,
parish of Vilseck, Regensburg diocese, Bavaria. Johann ZACHERETH
died in Hoehlziechen, parish of Vilseck, Regensburg diocese, in
1724. The name is variously spelled ZACHERETH / ZACHERT /
ZAGERT/ ZACHER, depending on the country and time period. The
village of Hoehlziechen no longer exists, but was located near
Vilseck, as is Langenbruck. I am not sure about the location of
Leuzenhof and Pappenberg.

I'm looking for some information on Michael KOESTNER, born 27
December 1882 somewhere in Bavaria. He was a blacksmith. He
immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's. His fathers
name was Michael Koestner and the mother's name is not known.
Webmaster's Note: He has been asked twice by eMail about the
Koestner family from Gottschee. No reply.

I am seeking information on or for relatives of Johann GEITNER of
Wilfertshofen (part of Lauterhofen), Bavaria, born approx 1774,
died 9 July 1853. His first wife was a) Anna Margarethe NICLAS
of Deinschwang (a farmers daughter). They were married on 21
April 1807, she died in childbirth 7 December 1808, and the
unnamed child died, 6 December 1808. Johann GEITNER then married
b) Anna Margarethe WEBER of Eidelberg on 25 July 1809 and died 16
July 1852, leaving the following family: 1) Johann Leonard
GEITNER, born 24 November 1810, died 15 December 1810; 2) Johann
GEITNER, born 5 December 1814, had epilepsy; 3) George GEITNER,
born 10 April 1813, immigrated to America (my
great-great-great-great-grandfather), died 1 April 1884. The
guardian for his
inheritance was Jacob WEBER, hence, my family line starts here.
4) Elisabeth GEITNER, born 6 October 1814, married a George
GEITNER at Engelberg; 5) Anna Maria GEITNER, born 19 March 1825,
unmarried at home; 6) Willibald GEITNER, born 12 February 1819,
heir to family farm, court papers state he purchased from his
siblings. I believe he married and had a son named Willibald
GEITNER; 7) Theresia GEITNER, born 30 July 1822, married Michael
ATZMANNSDORFER, from Traunfeldm and 8) Margarethe GEITNER, born
21 May 1816, married Johann GOTTSCHALK from Buch - the church
parish of Polling. George B. GEITNER may have fled to America to
avoid service in the Barvarian army, but am not absolutely sure.
We are unsure if was legal or illegal (emigration). George left
Bremen on the ship "Anna Emilie", arrived New York Port 4 July
1844. George married Elizabeth EICHENMÜLLER (EICHENMUELLER
/ EICHENMULLER) who came from Reisach to port of Balitimore on
the ship "Martha" on 1 September 1845; along with her was a 1
year old daughter Elisabeth and a sister Anna, 22 years old.
Elizabeth and George married on 14 October 1845 and lived at St.
Marys, Pennsylvania.

I am looking for information on the parents of Conrad
HERMSDORFER, born at Neudrossenfeld, Bavaria, Germany to Peter
HERMSDORFER and Wunderly HOUSTEFFIE in May 1859. He served in
the military before immigrating to America. He arrived at the
Port of New York on 7 October 1883 with sister Annie (Anne)
HERMSDORFER, who was born in 1848 in Bavaria and died in 1940.
They settled in Cambria county, Pennsylvania. He became a
naturalized citizen on 4 September 1895. On 18 February 1888 he
married Sarah A. STUDT, the daughter of Charles and Barbara E.
STINE / STUDT at Wilmore, Pennsylvania. He was the father of 3
children: Mary Edna, born 15 April 1888 (she married Otto Rollo
WILLS), died 6 May 1970; Carl Frederick, born 13 December 1894
(he married Mary Catherine NOON), died 21 December 1948; and
Lillian Myra, born 3 September 1900 (she married Albert A. MC
MULLEN / McMULLEN), died 21 July 1983. Conrad died 23 April
1923. His wife, Barbara, died 1 November 1940. Anne HERMSDORFER
married John MERKLE who was born in 1844 and died in 1921. The
entire family is buried at Lillydale Cemetery at Lilly,
Pennsylvania. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to do my WEBER family genealogy. Johann WEBER was

I am searching for information as to the ancestors of Johann
Wilhelm Andreas REGENSBURG, born at Jena, Bavaria in 1829. He
married (at New York City on 13 June 1852) Auguste Christiane
HAUSMANN, born at Holzmuenden, Braunschweig, Germany in 1830.
They could be either Roman Catholic or Lutheran.

I am looking for my BACKES ancestors. My great-great-
grandfather immigrated from Bliesen in Saarland in 1851 to New
York. Nicholas BACKES was born 10 May 1849, the son of Nicholas
BACKES and Catherine NUMAN. He married Mary MILLER, although I
am not sure whether that took place in Europe or the United
States. In New York Nicholas and Mary had the following
children: Henry, 1876; Nicholas, 1878; Theresia, 1880; Johan,
1885; and Frank, 1887. In 1900 they were living at the city of
Buffalo, New York. His death certificate lists his place of
birth as 'Pliesng' (sic). Several knowledgeable people have
advised me that this is most likely Blies-Ebersing, Moselle,
Lorraine, France. I am pursuing this lead and have ordered civil
and church records from the local LDS Family History Center. Any
contributions or questions would be welcomed.

I am seeking information on any children of the 20 April 1777
marriage at Hohenberg of Johann Lorenz RIESS, born 10 January
1751 at Ottenlohe by Hohenberg (the son of Johannes RIESS, born 4
September 1707 at Dietersgrun, died 7 February 1769 at Ottenlohe
& Magdalena BAUERNFEILD) with: Margaretha Maria GEBHARDT, born at
Raithenbach (the daughter of Johann GEBHARDT). I believe (but
need more information to confirm) that one of the RIESS children
(Johann RIESS) of the above marriage wed, on 18 October 1801 at
Grafenreuth to Eva Margaretha STÖHR (STOEHR / STOHR),
born 15 May 1784 at Grafenreuth, died 7 April 1846 at Grafenreuth
(the daughter of Johann Adam STÖHR (STOEHR / STOHR) and
Margaretha Katherina STELZNER, born at Suessen, Kreis
Wunsiedel). I believe that information currently published in
various databases, as to the identity (birth date, parents, etc)
of Eva Margaretha's husband is in error. Just as a point of
information, a number of the children from this RIESS /
STÖHR (STOEHR / STOHR) marriage immigrated to Jefferson
County, Wisconsin. The children of the above RIESS / GEBHARDT
marriage were likely born at Ottenlohe by Hohenberg, therefore
the birth records would likely be in the Hohenberg church books,
which are kept at the archive in Regensberg. I know, I can
request informaation from Regensberg, but do not want to
duplicate work (and expense) already done. The above-noted
marriage of Johann Lorenz RIESS to Margaretha Maria GEBHARDT
should not be confused with the marriage of Johann Lorenz's
brother, Georg RIESS on 4 February 1770 in Hohenberg, with Anna
Rosina GEBHARDT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have
much information to share.

I am seeking information on my grandfather, Hans SCHWAB, born at
Ulm, Bavaria. He married Helena GOLD (born 14 August 1916) in
Schwabish Gmund. Their daughter, Annelore GOLD, was born 16
December 1929 in Ulm, and came to the United States in December
1960. Helena GOLD's parents were Cresentia and Aloise GOLD. The
family was Catholic.

English: It is my hobby to find out the history of my ancestors.
The brother of my grandmother immigrated to the USA - Adolph
(Adolpp or Adolf) Gustav KOPP, born 02 May 1850 at Thomashof,
Bavaria, Germany. His parents were Kaspar Friedrich KOPP and
Auguste, geborene (nee) G&UNTHER (GUENTHER / GUNTHER). They
depaarted Breemen Germany on the ship "Coriolan" and arrived at
the port of New York on 07 July 1869. Adolph Kopp had learned in
Germany watch handicraft, but in Amerika he was a housekeeper. I
would be, therefore, very grateful for the short information,
whether you have a possibility (of finding more information on
him). I would like very much to get in contact with his
descendants. I thank you very much in advance for your kind
reply. Yours faithfully.
Dann
verliert sich leider meine Spur! Für jeden noch so kleinen
Hinweis wäre ich Ihnen dankbar und würde mich über
Ihre Nachricht sehr freuen!

- The Family History Library Catalog (FHLC - 17th CD-ROM
edition) has 69 topics listed for Bavaria (in addition to many
listings for individual locations within Bavaria). All should be

with known Bavarian ancestry but without a known town of origin
are:
- Census: These 9 record collections represent the 1938
Minority Census (primarily Jewish) of Bavaria.
- Emigration and Immigration - 17 record groups including 2 to
North America (1724-1749, 1846-1852), from Austria, France, and
Italy and to Austria. Specific Bavarian towns include Landsthul,
(Pfalz) Rettensberg and Vohenstrauss.
- Genealogy - Collected Works: three collections of family
pedigrees covering Bavaria including Augsberg, Nürenberg,
