Matthias Brandenburg was born in Brandenburg Castle, Brandenburg,
Prussia about 1740.
Believe father's name was Soloman Brandenburg. We have found
reports that say Matthias
was a half-brother to Frederick the Great, the second king of
Prussia. Can you give me any
information to confirm his father's name, or to establish any
connection to the king? Thank
you.
DEGLOW, Charles
eMail address: cdeglowjr@aol.com
The DEGLOW family originates in Lippehne, Solden. In 1851,
Herman Rudolph DEGLOW
came to the U.S. His brother Julius Heinrich DEGLOW had
preceeded him in 1847. Their
mother's name was Maria E. DEGLOW. The brothers settled near
Covington, Kentucky.
They operated tanneries and the Bavarian Brewery. We do not know
her husband's name.
We need to discover the name of her husband so we can continue
the search.
Webmaster Note: Lippehne, kreis Soldin was in Brandenburg,
just south of
Hinter Pommern (Eastern Pomerania). It is now called Lipiany,
Poland. The is one reel of
microfilm #0905040 of the churchbook there (covering 1783-1830)
available on loan for
viewing at your nearest LDS Family History Center. You might be
able to spot Maria's
marriage this way.

I am searching for information on the two lines KRAMM or KURTZE.
Both families are from Schwiebus, Brandenburg, Prussia. I have a
Robert Louis KURTZE arriving at Port Adelaide Australia in 1856,
I have no other information on his family (Before arriving in
Australia) or when or how he left Prussia. I have Julianne
Karoline KRAMM arriving in Australia in 1856 with her brothers
Reinhold August KRAMM and Heindrich Ferinand KRAMM aboard the
ship "Heinrich". I know that her parents names are Johanne
Wilhelm Kramm and >Julianne Frederiche nee RˇHSEL / RAEHSEL, but
I know nothing else from there back. Julianne married Robert
Louis in Australia 3 years later. I would like any information I
can get on either lines and/or informaion/photos of the town
Schwiebus or as it is know Swiebodzin Poland. Thank you for your
help.

My mother, Frieda Ida Martha LEMKE was born 1 April 1904 at
Wusterhausen, Dosse, Brandenburg, later imigrating to
Saskatchewan, Canada in 1927. Her father, Emil Karl Gustav LEMKE
was born 20 September 1860 at Wusterhausen. Her mother, Emilie
Auguste Louise WETTSTEDT was born 24 June 1868 at Wusterhausen.
They married 27 December 1895 at St. Peter und Paul Evangelical
church at Wusterhausen. Emil LEMKE's mother was Marie Sophie
Wilhelmine LEMKE. I have no informtion on his father. Emilie
WETTSTEDT's father, Hans Joachim WETTSTEDT, was a worker who is
believed to have moved to Berlin. I have no information on her
mother.
I am seeking dates and places of deaths of Emil LEMKE, Emilie
WETTSTEDT and any information on Marie Sophie Wilhelmine LEMKE,
the name of her husband, also anything on Hans Joachim WETTSTEDT.
No further church records are available at Wusterhausen so I need
new sources to continue the search. Any leads would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks. I am also searching FILATZEK / DAMNIK /
MESSOW,
Webmaster's Note: There are six citations for Lemke in the
FHL Catalog's Surname section, two of which might be helpful.
You also need to research each of your surnames in Die Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen
Volkes on FHL microfilm - a three step process.
Check the father in the Berlin city directories. If you find him
there, his street address can be used to establish the parish he
was in and a fairly straighforward search of the parish records
is possible.

Adam FREDERKING, my great-grandfather, was born in 1800 at or
near Eberswalde, Brandenburg. In 1837 he migrated to Volhynia,
Ukraine, with his family. He died there in 1875. Can anyone
please tell me where or how to look for his birth record?
Knowledge of anyone with the surname FREDERKING in the
Brandenburg of the early 1800's would be very welcome.

Auguste Caroline ROHRIG (1811-1882), daughter of Johann Gotthilf
ROHRIG, married 2 April 1846 at St. Nikolaikche (Lutheran)
Frankfurt (Oder), Albert Adolf MANSKE, MANSKEY, MANSKY
(1821-1898), son of Johan Joseph MANSKE of Danzie (sic. Danzig),
West Prussia. They had two children, Reinhold MANSKEY (1845-
), and Adelgunde MANSKEY (1848-1932). Auguste and son Reinhold
remained in Germany while Albert and daughter Adelgunde emigrated
to the United States. Auguste may also have lived in Stralsund,
Germany and Reinhold moved to Russia after Albert and Adelgunde
left Germany. Auguste also had a sister Paulina Friederike
ROHRIG ( -1873) who married Johann Friedrich SCHOENWALD (
-1854). I need information on this ROHRIG family of
Frankfurt/Oder, Brandenburg, Germany.
Webmaster's Note: Check the Rohrig surname in Die Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen
Volkes on FHL microfilm. See "Sources for Finding a Place of
Origin in Germany" above and below).
To find Reinhold and his line, this clue is available: According
to Karl Stumpp in The Emigration from Germany to Russia in the
Years 1763-1862, Benjamin Manske (born 20 December 1802, died
14 July 1863) left "Pogerela/Gostyn" Poland for Tarutino,
Bessarabia where he married Maria Justina LEMKE. More details of
this line will be available from the Village Coordinator of
Tarutino. There was a Pogorzala (Seifersdorf) in Silesia and a
Porgorzala Wies (Wernersdorf, Kreis Danzig).

I am searching for the ancestors and some descendants of John
DEHNE / DAEHNE / DÄHNE, born in Germany 1811, died in
Wisconsin USA 1897. He emigrated to Wisconsin from
Zehdin-on-der-Oder (now Cedynia, Poland). His first marriage was
to Ruth
MECHELKE, born and died in Germany. His second marriage was to
Sophia MECHELKE, born 1825 Germany, died 1887 in Wisconsin. They
had five children. all born in Germany who came with their
parents to Wisconsin. One son, August DEHNE / DAEHNE was both
1837 in Germany and died 1885 in Wisconsin. He married Augustine
FRANCE, born Germany 1842, died 1883. I do not have eMail.
Webmaster's Note: The only thing I know about Zehdin is that
a genealogy book Heimatkunde von Zehden und Umgebung, Aus
amtlichen Quellen bearb. Frankfurt an-der-Oder (published 1891,
113 pages) was authored by Ernst Eduard Melcher. It is listed in
the catalog of and in the stacks at the Büchri des Deutschen
Ostens in Herne, near Dusseldorf. This is perhaps the leading
library in Germany for Eastern German Provinces. I have
researched there and they are very cooperative, but I know of no
researcher available to search it for you and they will not
accept research tasks.

Louise BARTZ, born 1824 at Klein Ziethen, Brandenburg, Kreis
Angermuende had a son out of wedlock, Augustus Ludwig BARTZ born
25 February 1844, also at Klein Ziethen. Around 1860 Louise
BARTZ and her son August BARTZ emigrated to Kewanee, Illinois.
At about the same time she married Carl BINNO. In 1868 August
BARTZ married Ernestine Wilhelmine SCHULZ. The couple had 9
children at Kewanee and a 10th child in Nebraska. Ernestine
BARTZ died at Kewanee in 1909. August BARTZ was married two more
times and died at Long Beach, California in Jan. 1930. I am
looking for family connections.
When I wrote earlier about the Bartz/Binno Family from Klein
Ziethen, Brandenburg, I didn't tell all that I know. The Bartz
family was Lutheran. Many of the people in Klein Ziethen were
Belgian Huguenots who had moved to Brandenburg in the 1600's. I
have made contact with a Thomas LAURENT of Berlin, Germany whose
family comes from Klein Ziethen.
Many people in Klein Ziethen eimgrated to Henry County, Illinois,
near Kewanee. The Lutheran Bartzes joined the Reformed
Brandenburg Corner Church near Kewanee. The cemetery has many
Huguenot names from Klein Ziethen. Other people in the cemetery
came from small towns around Klein Ziethen, and they were ethnic
Germans. Thank you for your interest in my family. Rev. Ron
Kuehner, Readlyn, Iowa
Webmaster's Note: The only Klein Ziethen records that appear
to be at the FHL in Salt Lake City is an 1893 book on the
Huguenot (French Reformed) congregations there and at Gross
Ziethen. There are 4 Bartz listings in the "Surname Search"
section of the FHL Catalog but no reference to Brandenburg in the
sumaries. I suggest you research your three surnames in Die Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen
Volkes on FHL microfilm - a three step process.

My great-grandparents lived in what had been Reetz, Arnswalde,
Brandenburg, which today is Recz, Choszczno, Szczecin in Poland.
I am looking for any descendants living today that may be still
in Germany or any who could have immigrated to the USA after
WWII. Albert KRAHMER and Wilhelmina Augusta STREICH (birth &
death dates unknown) were the parents of my grandfather,
Hermann Wilhelm KRAHMER (1862-1935). Hermann had a brother,
Emil. If there were other children in family that is unknown.
Hermann immigrated to Nebraska USA 1891 and married Anna
Albertine FRADRICH (1872-1949), who also was from Reetz. Anna's
mother, Heinriette SCHEEL FRADRICH (not sure of spelling of last
name)(1845-1925) married second husband, Albert VOELKER
(1859-1921) and both immigrated to Nebraska USA 1899.
Heinriette's first husband was Julius FRADRICH (1844-1890), was a
carpenter and bricklayer who died in a construction accident.
Heinriette had a sister (name unknown) as reported in her
obituary that was still living in 1925 in Berlin. My
grandmother, Anna (Fradrich) Krahmer had two sisters, Franziska
(1874-1932) and Louisa 1875-1958) who also immigrated to Nebraska
USA 1892. Anna also had two brothers left in Germany, Emil
FRADRICH and Gustav FRADRICH. They were wrestlers in Berlin and
served in the German military in World War I and they were
married. Gustav's wife was named Ella. A photo (early 1900's)
shows them with a young daughter. Emil had a 12-14 year old son,
Herman and daughter (abt. 4 yrs old) Wife's name unknown.
Family religion was Lutheran. The Nebraska families last heard
from their relatives in Germany in the early 1930's. I have
complete data on the USA families but want to know more details
of the German relatives and hear from those living today.

My relative Caroline EGGERT was born in 1850 in Gerswalde
Brandenburg and emigrated
to Australia on the Cesar Goddefroy from Hamburg. The ship
arrived in Ipswich,
Queensland on 15 Feb 1866. Her parents were Bernard EGGERT and
Matilda (Unknown)
and they did not come to Australia with Caroline. Her travelling
companions were Otto
EGGERT (male 45), Auguste EGGERT (female 16), Friederike EGGERT
(female 13),
Friederike EGGERT (female 12), Marie EGGERT (female 3) and Carl
EGGERT (male 1).
What happened to her parents and what was her relationship to the
people she traveled with?
Why did they leave Prussia?
WebMaster Note: If this family was of the Protestant faith
and all were born at
Gerswalde, the birth records of everyone but Otto should appear
in the duplicate
Evangelische Kirchenbuch (Churchbook) of Gerswalde (Kreis
Templin) on three microfilms
(covering 1850-1874) at the Family History Library (FHL) in Salt
Lake City. These were
filmed in 1982 at the Potsdam Staatsarchiv. The film of interest
to you is probably
microfilm #1334773, item #4. It can be obtained on loan (nominal
fee) for viewing at your
nearest LDS Family History Center (FHC) and there are over 2,700
FHC's worldwide.
These records should confirm the names of the parents of these
children and
might yield some clues as to Otto's relationship too.

My gr-grandfather was Oswald JUDATZ born 13 April 1860, reputedly
at Forst en Lausitz, Lausatia. He was
academy educated in Berlin before marrying Anna SCHULTZ - born 31
August 1861 in Essen. They married in
Germany (place unknown) and emigrated to the USA before 1888. An
uncle tells the story that Oswald's
half-brother inherited the family cabinet making business in
Forst and essentially ran it bankrupt. Oswald
returned to Forst sometime between 1900 and 1914 to settle the
estate of this half brother after his death. I
would be grateful for advice or assistance in researching cabinet
making businesses operating in and around
Forst from about 1850 to 1900.
I would also welcome any advice or comments one might have on the
surname JUDATZ. I have yet to find any
other US occurance of this surname as spelled above. I have been
advised this may be an anglicized corruption
of the surname JUDAS. I have also encountered two researchers
investigating the Polish name JUDASCZ.
Several German nationals suggest it may be of Jewish origin
although Oswald himself was an active Lutheran,
helping to found an Evangelical Lutheran church in North Hartford
CT where he settled.
Webmaster's Note: Forst en Lausitz is located in Brandenburg,
Prussia and several FHL microfilm
collections exist of some of the town's churchbooks. You best
determine Oswald's religion before you start a
serious search. Try checking the IGI (International Genealogical
Index) and the Ancestral File at your closest
LDS Family History Center. Then try Ahnenstammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes.

I am looking for information on the NATUSCH family that came from
the town of Guben, on the German / Polish border. My
Great-Grandmother was Louise Ella NATUSCH, born circa 1880, died
1958. She married Walter FARRAR, Master Tailor, born 1879, died
1929, and emigrated to Batley, West Yorkshire, England circa
1919. They had one son who survived to adulthood, Herbert Harry
Farrar, Master Tailor, born 1905, died 1958. Louise had a
brother: Hugo Natusch who married a woman named Francesca, and a
sister, Anna who married one Emil RICHTER. I don't believe that
either couple had any children. Hugo and Francesca were last
heard from by my family in the late 1960s. Any information would
be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking information on the family name MALINSKY. My second
great-grandfather was Wilhelm MALINSKY born 1831 in Preussen. He
married Caroline SCHILLING in 1851 and they had 7 children -
William born 1852, Bertha born 1854, Carl born 1857, Carl born
1859, August born 1862, Anna born 1864, and Ferdinand born 1867.
They were all born at Schenkenberg, Kreis Prenzlow, Brandenburg.
The eldest, my great-grandfather William, married Ernestine REBOW
in 1872 and they had 8 children - Anna born 1873, Ernest born
1874, Emily born 1877, August born 1879, Wilhelm born 1879,
Helene born 1883, Albert born 1885, and Frank born 1890. William
and Ernestine emigrated to the Clay / Effingham County area of
Illinois on the ship "Silesia" on 10 October 1881. I would like
to learn more about the MALINSKY family prior to 1850.
Webmaster's Note: Assuming your ancestors were Protestant, I
suggest you look at the Schenkenberg church records (1674-1832)
on 2 reels of FHL microfilm.

Christian RUGE born circa 1804, a Protestant shoemaker, was
listed from the town of Muschten near Schwiebus, Brandenburg when
he emigrated in 1850 to South Australia with wife Leonore [born
circa 1807] and son Wilhelm [born circa 1836]. Given your recent
advice, I am hopeful LDS records may also exist for this town.
The name seems to be associated with the immediate area as late
as 1945. A possible son Johann Friedrich RUGE [born circa 1829]
is listed as from Beutnitz, Kreis Crossen. Help appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: Muschten is now Zielona Gora, Poland.
Civil registration records (1875-1937) exist on 4 microfilm
reels. For Beutnitz, the Evangelische churchbook records
(1835-1875: 1 reel of microfilm) are available , but also a bit
later than your need. This is all that is currently listed for
both towns. If RUGE is an unusual name (I'm not sure) you might
want to check it in the 1,221 reel collection of Die Ahnenstammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes on FHL microfilm.
