ARBOGAST, Karen
4888 Rapid Run Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45238, USA
eMail address: buffys97@one.net
(Roman Catholic)
Anton SCHNIEDERS was born 1 October 1837 in Hanover (unknown if
it is a town in Hanover or the former Kingdom of Hanover)
Hos parents were Jacob and Thekla SCHNIEDERS, Roman Catholics.
He immigrated to the US alone, aboard the ship "J. Ahlers" and
arrived here in 1859, then moved to Cincinnati. His occupation
was tailor. I am searching for a town of origin for him. My
problem has been that the church records for the towns which
comprised Hanover do not have Roman Catholic records for his year
of birth.
ATTKINS, Carl
eMail address: cattkins@ltic.com
Any information or help on the following people would be
greatly appreciated. Theodor ATTKINS owned a business in
Hannover, Germany around the 1900's. My grandmother told me it
was an insurance company. My Great uncle tells me he thinks it
was a banking type company. I am not sure which one is accurate.
Theodor ATTKINS married Elisabeth BORCHERS (she died 22 May 1909
at Hannover. Germany). Their children were Carl Richard
Theodor ATTKINS and Elisabeth ATTKINS (I'm not sure if there
were more than two children). Carl Richard Theodor ATTKINS
married Anna RUBENACK 3 October 1904 and they married at
Hannover. They had two children, Annelise ATTKINS (born 6 April
1907 at Hannover) and Helmut George Richard ATTKINS (born 11
October 1912 at Hannover). Carl Richard Theodor ATTKINS
died 8 March 1913 at Hannover Germany. The funeral took place at
thr Chapel of the Stocfener Friebhofes ab Ftatt (at Hannover).
Anna RUBENACK is the daughter of Johanne HEISE and a Mr.
RUBENACK. Johanne HEISE died 21 January 1910 at Hannover.
Elisabeth ATTKINS married Georg EGGERT. They had at least one
child, Karl-Heinz EGGERT. Elisabeth ATTKINS died 5 February 1933
at Hannover, Germany. My surname list includes ATTKINS,
RUBENACK, HEISE, BORCHERS and EGGERT
BALDWIN, Palmer
eMail address: PEBE@webtv.net
I am looking for information and ancestry on Frederick KNIGGE,
born 1831 in Hannover. His spouse was Maria Sophia HAHNE KNIGGE,
born 17 November 1839 in Hannover, died 5 March 1919 at Ft.
Dodge, Iowa. I am also looking for her father, Fred HANNA.
BEHRENS, Camille
eMail address: CJK1043@aol.com
I am searching for information on Henrich BEHRENS born 8 March
1832. He immigrated about 1858 to the USA and settled at
Charelston, South Carolina. He went by the name of HENRY, but
his name might be WILHELM Heinrich BEHRENS (William Henry
Behrens). Census records show his birth place as Hannover,
Germany. Church records show his birth place as Markoldendarf,
Hannover, Germany. Other church records show his birth place as
Marke Oldendorf, Ehrichsburg, Hannover, Germany. Later it is
recordes as Markoldendoft amt. Erkesburg. Any information you
have in regards to Heinrich (Henry) Behrens will be helpful.
Webmaster's Note: There are two collections of FHL (Family
History Library, Sale Lake City, Utah) microfilm records for a
Markoldendorf, kreis Einbeck in the German province of Hannover.
However the absence of a spouses name, if any, or any other vital
dates of children, if any, and the lack of a stated religion make
further comments on records or search strategies impossible.
BREMS, Fred
eMail address: fbrems@blockbuster.com.pe
(Lutheran)
I am looking for information on the BREMS family out of Hannover
- particularly of Johann BREMS who, according to his son Charles'
best recollection, was born 18 May 1839. Charles did not know
the place of birth or the names of the parents. Occupation as
provided by Charles (Carl?) is "farmer." However, according to
First St. John's Lutheran Church marriage record, Chicago,
Illinois, Book #1, p.310, #142,44, Johann was born 16 May 1847 in
Schwarme Hannover. This would make him 15 when he enlisted to
fight in the Civil War, so could be in error.
Johann's wife-to-be, Wilhelmine EBELING was born 12 April 1847 at
Landesburg Hannover. It is unknown when Johann immigrated to the
US. Johann enlists in 105th Illinois, at Addison, Illinois on 15
August 1862. The roster shows him to be from Bloomingdale,
Illinois. He was registered as John for a three-year enlistment.
A Henry BREMS enlists in the same regiment on the same day, same
place - not sure if they are brothers - Henry would be Johann's
older brother if that were the case. The grave of Henry BREMS
was found near Brems, Indiana, but family still there has no
information.
There is another branch of BREMS that came out of Hannover
probably after that, a Frederick John BREMS. They also settled
in Illinois - think close relations to Johann and Henry, who may
have been the first wave, but have yet to make the link. BREMS
located in Utah come from a Bavarian branch, it appears, and not
closely related. Many BREMS live in Holland as well - not sure
of any relationship there at all. All appear to have been
Lutheran. Thanks for any assistance or guidance in this
search.
CLARKE, Arlis RIGGERS
eMail address: Arlisclark@aol.com
(Lutheran)
My father's name is surname RIGGERS. We have church records
from lutheran church in Germany and the original family farm
from 1600's is located in Hermansberg, but I can't find that
on a map. In the 1599 assession of property, there is a Hans
RICHERS who took over his property in 1599. His son was
Michell, born 1603, who got his land and this led to the
RIGGERT branch of the family. Since my records indicate a
direct lineage to a Hans RICHERS, born 161, I know the
Michell branch is not ours, but I am curious if the Hans RICHERS
who inherited the land from his father had a brother, who is the
father of our Han RICHERS, born 1610. I would really like
help in researching this. Also, I want to know how close
Hermansberg is to the Uelzen area, since if my above
supposition is correct, then their property would probably
not be far apart..thanks
CLAWGES, Joseph Valentine III
eMail address: jclawges@bellsouth.net
The surnames KLAGES / CLAWGES are old German originating in the
Hannover area of Lower Saxony. I am interested in any record
for CLAWGES. This is a very small family. I am specifically
searching for Johann Valentin KLAGES who emigrated to
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in 1748 aboard the ship
"Edinburgh", sailing from Rotterdam. I am looking for Johann in
Germany. I have no records there, parents, etc. My estimate of
the time of birth is between 1720-30. I do have a record of a
family group headed by Daniel KLAGES, 1667 at Gladebeck. Several
of thegiven names there are identical to given names in Johann's
line, which suggests a close linkage.
I have received information regarding "kinship books",
published in Germany covering, I think, smaller towns and
villages. On specific reference that I received, read in German:
Sonderveroeffentlichung 17 im Jahre 1987 im Niedersaechsischen
Landesverein fuer Familienkunde. This supposedly covers
Gladebeck for 1668-1829, a very critical time and location for
my search. Does anyone have any information about where I can
find this publication? Or information on the National
Association for Lower Saxony? Any and all suggestions will be
appreciated.

HARE, Bob
eMail address: BHare95@aol.com
I am looking for information on Mary (Maria) BRHAM who
emigrated from Hannover to the United States settling in
Cincinnati, Ohio. According to the 1880 census she was born at
Hannover and both her parents were from Hannover. She was
married to a George HARE and they had seven or eight children.
Mary (Maria) BRAHM was born in 1841. She died in 1891 at the age
of 50. She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery at St. Bernard,
Ohio. I would welcome any information about her.

(Lutheran)
Friedrich Heinrich MEIER was born about 1830 somewhere in
Hannover. His wife, named Charlotte BAAK, was also born
somewhere in Hannover about 1834. About December 1859 their
first son, Heinrich MEIER, was born somewhere in Hannover.
In 1860, the family emigrated from Bremen to Galveston on the
brig "Weser." They settled at Frelsburg Texas. They had two more
children: Johann Gerhard August MEYER (born 18 January 1863) and
Sophia MEYER (born about 1871). After 1880, they may have
relocated to Baursville / Moulton Texas. The family was
Lutheran. I would very much like to know their village of origin
in Hannover, and I would like to research their ancestry. I am
willing to travel to Germany to do so, and, if necessary, I am
willing to engage a professional researcher in Germany to assist
me. Thank you.
LEBRUN, Candee
eMail address: spunkerL@email.msn.com
Henry E. REINKING, born 19 February 1838 at Estrup, Province of
Hannover, was one of 12 children born to Ernest and Louisa
REINKING. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1856 and lived in
Illinois. He moved to Cedar county, Iowa in 1867 and died at Ida
Grove, Iowa 16 October 1912. I am looking for the names of his
siblings and the origin of his parents. I am quite certain his
given name at birth was not Henry but don't know which variation
of it his name may have been. Both his mother and his wife were
named Louisa MEYER.
LUDWICK, Bryan and Lyn
eMail address: ludwick@winsoft.net.au
I am researching our ancestor, Henry LUDWICK. According to
records in Australia, He was born in 1810 at Bremen, Hanover,
Germany. I would like to find some history and information about
him. It appears he was a mariner.
MEINEKE, Judith
213 Nicholson Road, Sewickley, Pennsylvania 15143-9521, USA
eMail address: Lark517@aol.com
Otto Henrich MEINEKE / MEINECKE was born 9 September 1890 at
Gifhorn, Germany, Hannover. He emigrated to the USA in 1907, at
the age of 17. He left Germany to avoid being drafted into
Kaiser's Army. I would like to know if there are any relatives
out there and what village or town they live in. My husband,
Otto H. Meineke Jr is his son. He supposedly had alot of
brothers and sisters in Germany. He stated that he lived near a
canal and could go ice skating there. His father, Gotting H.
MEINECKE, was a carpenter.
MUERY, Carol
3809 Holmes Ave, Huntsville, Alabama 35816, USA
eMail address: Cmclarinet@aol.com
I am researching the Muery family history. My great grandmother
and her family are from the Hanover area. Her name Wilhelmina
VOELKER, born 8 December 1857 at Brokum, Diepholz, Hanover,
Germany. According to information contained in the Muery german
language family bible, Wilhelmina (Mina) had two brothers William
and Fritz. Wilhelmina's brothers immigrated to Texas, USA first.
In 1873 when Wilhemina was 16 years old she and her sisters
(Sophie, Chulotta) immigrated to America. We are fairly certain
they landed at Galveston, Texas. The parents, Frederick and
Angelina VOELKER immigrated at a later time. Wilhelmina had not
met my great grandfather to be, Samuel MUERY, until she arrived
in America. Samuel MUERY immigrated to America in 1862. So, the
VOELKER Family was in the Hanover area and I hope there would
some history of them. I appreciate any assistance you can
offer.

I am seeking information on the ancestors and siblings of
Friederich Wilhelm TIENKEN (born 8 February 1816 at Orsteil Vieh,
Hannover Province) and his wife (married 3 December 1847 at
Evangelische Lutheran Kirche in Worpswede). I have a copy of the
marriage certificate. She was Gesche GEHRKEN / GERKEN, born 27
November 1822 at Neu St. Juergen, Hannover Province.
Friederich's parents were Friederich TIENKEN and Anna
TIETJEN. His (the younger Friederich) sister was Alheid
TIENKEN, born 23 February 1802 at Vieh, Hannover Province.
Alheid married Marten MAHNKEN. Their son, Johann MAHNKEN was
born at Heudorf, Hannover Province on 21 December 1839. Gesche
GEHRKEN's parents were Martin GEHRKEN and Gretje CORDES. Gretje
CORDES's parents were Harm CORDES and Gesche MONSEES. Martin
GEHRKEN's parents were Mangels GEHRKEN and Agnette MONSEES.
Gesche GEHRKEN had a brother Martin GERKEN, born 25 August 1836,
at Neu St. Juergen, Hannover Province. He emigrated to the US in
1854. I believe that Gesche and Martin had three other siblings
who emigrated and others who stayed in Germany.
Friederich Wilhelm TIENKEN and Gesche GEHRKEN TIENKEN, with
children Friederich, Meta, Martin & Heinrich, emigrated to the US
via the port of Bremen in November 1857 and settled near Cole
Camp, Missouri and then at Block, Miami County Kansas.
Friederich was a blacksmith. I think all these family members
were Lutheran.

(Protestant - Lutheran?)
I am looking for baptismal information for Helen Magdalena
BOJE, b 11 November 1889 in Hanover. Her parents were John A.
BOJE and Anna ELLERMANN. Anna ELLERMANN was also born in
Hanover in 1869. Her parents were Henry ELLERMANN and Amelia
MUELLER. I am not sure whether they considered themselves
Lutheran or E & R. They attended both denominations and had
children baptized at both in the U.S.
SHEA, Lucille FAHRENHOLZ
eMail address: LUCILLESHEA@prodigy.netorILUVLU@AOL.COM
I have been trying to find the family of my great-great
grandfather, Heinrick FAHRENHOLZ, who was born to John and
Magdaline FAHRENHOLZ 1 January 1827. I believe Heinrick had a
brother, Claus FAHRENHOLZ, and a brother John FAHRENHOLZ. John
was born in 1837 and Claus was born in 1811. Immigration books
state Heinrick was from the village of Osterholz. His
naturalization papers state he was from Hannover. Can you tell
me if these are two different places ? Thank you kindly.
Webmaster's Note: There is a city of Osterholz in the
kreis-stadt of Osterholz of the province of Hannover, Germany.
One of
the two collections of FHL microfilm of Evangelical churchbooks
covers all the vital dates you mention.
SCHERMER, Kenneth L.
eMail address: KJschermer@aol.com
(Lutheran)
I am researching SCHERMER, SCHMIDT and STADTLANDER. All are from
Hanover. J. Q. / Carl Casper was born 15 May 1818, his wife, Anna
Maria born 21 May 1819. Henry SCHMIDT was born 25 Marxh 1821.
Sophia STADTLANDER was born 13 October 1829. All were Luthern.
All emigrated to the U. S. between 1840 and 1850. They came to
Cincinnati, Ohio via New Orleans, Louisiana. From there the
SCHMIDT and STADTLANDER families moved into Indiana very soon.
Charles SCHERMER came to Indiana in 1881. He married Sophia D.
SCHMIDT, daughter of Henry SCHMIDT and Sophia STADTLANDER.
Frederic and William STADTLANDER were saddletree makers. I need
information about these families in Hanover, Germany
SETHMANN, Barbara

(Lutheran)
I am seeking information regarding Meta PETERS and Heinrich
SETHMANN, husband and wife, who lived in Elm, Hannover at least
from the mid 1860's to 1888. Their known children are: Henry,
born 1869, Katherine, born circa 1870, Anna, born circa 1871,
Marie, born 1874 and Diedrich [who was later called Richard ]
born 1877. Henry emigrated to New York City the summer of 1884,
and in 1894 married Meta TIETJEN. Meta PETERS SETHMANN
emmigrated in 1888 with Marie and Diedrich. No emigration records
are yet found for Katherine or Anna, but both married in New York
in the early 1890's. Katherine married Henry von BARGEN and Anna,
who died in 1902, married Henry TAMKE. We are interested in
any record of these people's lives while in Hannover, especially
marriage of the parents, baptism of the children, any children we
don't know about yet, death of the father. Also, who was Henry's
sponsor when he came to New York alone at the age of 15? The
family were Lutheran. Thanks in advance for any help.

BROOKMAN Bernhart was born in Hanover 23 June l8l9 and died in
Jefferson Township, Clayton County, Iowa 12 January l8l4. He had
a wife named Marie G, born 7 January 1827 and died in Jefferson
Township, Clayton County, Iowa on 25 August 1889. The l850
Clayton County Census lists Bernhart BROOKMAN with a wife and l
son, Joseph who was l year old. In the l860 census it
lists him as Bernhart BROCKMAN with a wife, children Joseph,
Margaret, Mary, Catherine, and Lenie BROCKMAN from hanover age
65. In l870 the household lists additional children, Matilda,
Frank and August, also Gesina JANSEN born at Jabore in l797
mother of Marie BROCKMAN. Bernhart was a brickmaker. He changed
his name in l950 to BROCKMAN. He was a Catholic. His wife Maria
Gensina JANSEN was born in l827. Her mother later came to Iowa
to live with them and her name was also Maria Gesina JANSEN who
came from Jabore (Bavaria ?).
They emigrated to the US thru New Orleans in l846 and their
religion was Catholic. I do not have any information on
Emigration, what ship, parents, brothers, sisters etc. His
occupation was Brickmaker. He was my great-great-grandfather. I
believe my great-great-grandmother was also aboard the same ship
but they were not married at the time. The married after they
landed in the US. Her maiden name was Maria Gesina JANSEN she
was also from Hannover. She was born 7 January l827.
