I am looking to find information on relatives of my great-great-grandfather Johann Heinrich Wilhelm MEHLHOPT, possibly spelt MEHLHOP. Johann changed his name to Henry Mehlhopt after emigrating to England from Hannover, Germany. There he married on the 16th July 1871 to Margaretha Heibrock, born 14 September 1844 in Germany. I have no birth date for Johann but estimate his birth between the years 1836-1849. He died in 1939 aged over 100 years old. Johann belonged to the Lutheran church and baptised some of his children there. Johann listed his father as Johann Heinrich Mehlhopt (Mehlhop) occupation: Farmer, nothing is known of his mother. It is said that he had a brother name Unknown. Johann (known as Henry) lists his occupation as Sugar Baker in England. His children were William Herman Mehlhopt, born 1870 in England; Albert Karl Heinrich Mehlhopt, born 1871 in England; Henriette Margaret Marie Mehlhopt, born 1873 in England. In 1874 he and his family except one child (Albert) immigrated to New Zealand aboard the ship 'Carisbrooke Castle'. They settled at Canterbury, New Zealand. Henry was naturalized as a citizen in 1899 in New Zealand. In the early 1900's Henry returned to Germany to visit, presumably relatives. I am trying to make a conection between the Mehlhop's in Germany and my family. I am looking for the brothers or sisters of Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Mehlhop or his father Johann Heinrich Mehlhop, or prehaps a birth Certificate if possible. Any information would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you.
Webmaster's Note: The AGFHS (Anglo German Family History Society) of England, a FEEFHS member organization with a web page on this server, has published extensively on the German "Sugar Bakers" of England. I suggest you look at their website here, join their society and send them a query stating what you know and what you seek.

I am looking for any information on a Henry SHROUDER. He was supposedly born at Brumafair ? or Brumhar ? 6 March 1806. He immigrated to the US with a brother named unknown. I have found many spellings of the name including SHROWDER, SCHROUDER which are used as much as SHROUDER. He could have a first name of John and I have found Henny on his grave marker. He married a Barbara WADE of North Carolina and eventually moved to South Carolina and then settled in Dooly county Georgia. Of course I am sure these names have been "Americanized" when he reached this country. This is all the information i have on him.

I am looking to find information on the relatives and birthplace in Hannover Province of a great-great grandfather Heinrich MESSERSCHMIDT and his wife Louise. Henrich and his wife Louise or Louisa left Hannover in 1867 from Bremen on the ship "Deutschland", arriving at the Port of New York 30 December 1867. The passenger list for the Deutschland was published in Germans to America, List of passengers arriving in U.S. Port, Volume 20, August 1867-May 1868, p. 278-279. Heinrich is listed as Heinr, 30 years of age, a male and his occupation being that of a farmer. Louise his wife was 29 years old, female and occupation unknown. The Province code was "H", which is the code for Hannover Province. Heinrich MESSERSCHMIDT and Louise were listed in the United States 1870 Federal Census, living at Loran, Stephenson county, Illinois. The couple was living with August VOLKER who had a 2 year old son, Andreas. August was a farmer. His wife Anna BREIDENTHAL had died in 1867. This couple may have been relatives to Heinrich or Louise MESSERSCHMIDT. Louise's maiden name is unknown. On 27 March 1873 at Freeport, Stephenson county, Illinois, August VOLKER testified on Heinrich's behalf when he became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Heinrich now becomes known as Henry MESSERSCHMIDT. He was born 13 June 1837. In various United States Census records he gives his birthplace as Hannover. About 1876 he moved from Illinois to Franklin and Hardin counties, Iowa. He lived in Osceola township, Franklin county and in Ackerly, Hardin county, Iowa. In 1888 he moved to Eden township, Codington county, South Dakota where he farmed. Henry died 1 December 1908 at Dexter, Codington county, South Dakota. Henry had at least four children by Louise. He married a second time to Luise (also known as Lizzie) LEITRITZ or LEITERITZ of Centerville, Trempealeau county, Wisconsin on 27 February 1880 at Freeport, Stephenson county, Illinois at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Henry and Lizzie had 11 children. I am looking for the birthplace and family ancestry of Heinrich and the date of his first marriage to Louise. Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I have been trying to locate possible relatives stateside (in the U.S.) for the SCHARFF surname. I have seen records listing him as Harmon George Elimar SCHARFF, born 4 June 895 at Hanover. He was in New York on a Merchant Ship and ended up on Guam in the Pacific. I am trying to find records on when he came to US. I have a picture of him and 2 others on a dock with the life preserver with the name George Washington Bremen on it. He came over with a brother Herman and they lost contact with each other. Herman stayed in America and his family in Germany never heard from him again. I have met some of the German side (SCHARFF), including Great Aunt Dora who passed shortly after. His parents were Herman & Minna. I hope you can direct me in the right path.

Anne Marie Elizabeth BUCHLER, born about 1772, married Johan August Ernst PERLITZ. Their son, Frederich PERLITZ, gives his mother's birth place as Hanover on the 1880 US Federal census of Fayette county, Texas. Is anyone researching for the surname BUCHLER?

ROXBURGH, Chris
eMail address: chris_roxburgh@yahoo.com

I am researching the SCHUMACHER family. Louis & Carl SCHUMACHER arrived at Liverpool, England in the mid 1850's from Hannover. Their father's name was Henry SCHUMACHER. Louis was born about 1838 and Carl aabout 1835, both of them at Hanover. Louis was married to Sophie MELLER in Hanover c1859, and they had a son, Diedoroch (later anglicised to Richard when they settled at Liverpool). Carl married Mary ROXBURGH in 1871 at the Parish Church, Walton on the Hill. Louis and Sophie had 4 children. Richard, Louis, Maria and Sophia. I have traced all Carl & Mary's descendants, but know nothing about Louis and Sophie's descendants. Is there anyone with any information about them or any other SCHUMACHERS who might be connected? I am particularly keen to track them down in Hanover itself. Many thanks.

SCHROEDER, Rodney G.
eMail address: rod2438@chartermi.net

(Lutheran)

Herman Henry SCHROEDER emigrated from Bremen in 1898. He was the son of Franz Heinich Diedrich Christian SCHROEDER / SCHRODER and Amelia Henrietta BUBA, and was born probably at Lemgo, Lippe, Detmold, Germany on 20 January 1870. According to the books of St. Johann Lutheran Church at Lemgo, his siblings born there were Juliane Henriette Amalia SCHROEDER / SCHRODER, born 4 Nov 185?, Heinrich Ernst Friedrich SCHROEDER / SCHRODER, born 7 January 1864 and a brother (name not known). Three other siblings died in January 1863 of the "Coup". I have data relating to the anscestors of Franz Henrich and of the descendants of Herman Henry but desperatly need proof of Hermans's birth and all information relating to his siblings such as marriages, children and descendants. The family may have left Lemgo as there is mention of Bothfeld, now a suburb of Hanover City. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TEBBEN, Robert T.
eMail address: Tebben01@aol.com

(Lutheran)?

I am looking for a connection to Hannover for Jurgen / Juergen Dirks TEBBEN. He was listed as Jurgen D. TEBBEN and the transcriber made a note that there was an umlaut over the "u" in his given name. He emmigrated to the US in 1869 aboard the ship "Bark Marco Polo". He was listed as 19 Years old, Male, Labourer, and country of origin as Hannover. He arrived at New York Harbor on 20 April 1869. I am assuming he was Lutheran. Thank You.
