AHLF, Kent
eMail address: KJAhlf@classic.msn.com
I am looking for connections to the Ahlf family from the state of
Hannover. Most members are from Osten, Isensee, Kajedeich,
Oderquart. These villages are about 30 miles (50 kilometers)
west-northwest of Hamburg. I have considerable information
dating to mid 1800s. In particular I am looking for more
information on Burkhardt AHLF, father of August (born 1853) and
John Henry Ahlf (born 1848) of Isensee. Their mother remarried
Claus STUEVEN of Isensee / Osten area. Thank you.
ASCHENBRENNER, Dawn
eMail address: DunnDawn@aol.com
I am looking for information on Christian RIEMER (or
REIMER),Wilhelm ZANDER, Karl WALTERS, JAKOBS and BRIESHABER (or
BRUSHABER) from the Hannover area. These people settled in
Wisconsin in the 1800's. I have checked church records and
census rolls back to 1880. Family oral history tells of the
family coming from Hannover. "Germany" and "Prussia" was all
that was listed on the census rolls. All those named are my
ancestors. I am especially interested in RIEMER and
ZANDERS.
BACON, Elaine C.

eMail address: ecBac@aol.com
I seek the ancestory of Henry (or H.G.) BUHRMEISTER / BURMEISTER
born 4 Jan 1831
at Elmlohe, Lehe, Hanover and his wife, Katherine MANGELS. They
were married before
the 1862 birth of a daughter. Katherine's parents were John
Henry MANGELS and Maria
(maiden name unknown) MANGELS presumed to be born in Hanover.
H.G.'s father was of
Ringstedt, Bremerhaven.
BALCOM, Anna F.

I am searching for the living relatives of the WILP family. They
would be living at Priggenhaven or Bersenbrück. They are
descendants of Johan Gerd Herman STROHMAM WILP and Anna Marie
Gertrud VONHONE, Two of their sons were Herman Henrich WILP and
Bernard Henrich WILP. There are also some half brothers. Any
information you can find will be greatly appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: One obvious way is to refer to the
hotlinked "Suggestions For Finding a Place of Origin in Germany"
above or below and then goto the "Germany CD-ROM Telephone book
search" by the IGS of Burbank. While microfilm exists for
Bersenbrück, we do not comment on sources when the religion
is not disclosed.
BOCK, Lynn
email address: bock@nebi.com
I am seeking the ancestors of FERDINAND GUSTAV BOCK b. April 17,
1835 in Hanover, Prussia or Beilfeldt. On 17 January 1859 he
married Maria Wilhimen HEIDBREDER, born 1 December 1835, marriage
place unknown. Her parents were Albert Heinrich Heidbreder born
5 May 1800 at Hanover, Germany and Sofia HEIDBROCK born 14
September 1804 at Hanover; they both died at Bland, Missouri.
Ferdinand and Maria came to America about 1858-59, settled at New
Woolam, Gasconade County Missouri, lived on a farm and had 11
children. I understand there was a large community of Germans
there, they all attended the same German speaking church and I am
in the process of getting the obits from the Genealogy Center in
Gasconade County. His brother Frank Gustav BOCK emigrated circa
1850-1858 and married Augusta KUSCHEL. I am interested in any
information regarding Ferdinand and Maria while still in Germany,
or their ship and date of arrival. Thanks.

Martin MARTENS was born 5 November 1850 at Bonstdorf, Hanover. He
attended elementary school at Hermannsburg and prep school at
Wietzendorf 1866 - 1868. He emigrated to USA thru Canada in

GERBOTH, said to have been
born in Hannover between the years 1811 and 1823, emigrated to
the U.S.A. about 1843 and
died there in the state of Illinois 3 January 1882. Before
emigrating, Heinrich married
Rebecka Margaretha Dorothea BURCKE, said to have been born in
Hamburg 10 October
1810. She also died in Illinois, U.S.A. 4 October 1876. Before
emigrating, Heinrich and
Rebecka had a daughter, Sophia, born about 1842. Two sons, Henry

eMail address: dale@strato.net
My ancestors Henry HARTMAN (Heinrich HARTMANN) and son Justus
came to the United States from Hanover, Germany in 1801 or 1811.
They may have entered through Charleston, South Carolina.
Henry's wife's given name is Caroline. Henry was born in Germany
15 November 1779 and died in Morgan County, Ohio 26 November
1841. Justus was born in Germany about 1801 and died in Athens
County, Ohio about 24 December 1875. Justus applied for
citizenship at Charleston, South Carolina in 1823. I'm
interested in any information regarding them while still in
Germany or their ship and arrival date, etc. Thank you.

I am seeking information on parents, birthplace, emigration and
arrival to the United States of Augustus Frederick MILLER
(MUELLER) born 1821 at Hanover. He arrived in Oregon in 1853 and
married Sarah ? from New York.
Webmaster's Note: One of your few hopes in finding an
ancestor with the most common German surname is to search the Die Ahnenstammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes and just look for persons with the
MÜLLER / MUELLER surname that lived at Hanover.
JOHNSON, James I.

Maria BREMER was born 4 January 1872, Hannover, Germany. She
came to America in
1874 with her parents Andreas BREMER born 11 March 1839, and
Margaretha Bremer (nee
DAMMANN) born 20 August 1846. Andreas' parents were Andrew
BREMER and
Margaretta REESE. Margaetha DAMMANN's parents were Hans DAMMANN
and Anna
AUGESTEIN. I would like more information on any of these
ancestors. Maria BREMER
married Frederick CORDES born 24 June 1868 in Dollern, Germany.
Maria and Frederick
(my grandparents) lived and died in Zumbrota, Minnesota.
MOVIUS, John
eMail address: FEEFHS7777@aol.com
(Lutheran)
I seek information on Julius MOVIUS, pedigree ancestor of the
Buffalo-Boston branch of the Movius family. He was was born 14
November 1811 at Liebenau, Kreis Nienburg, Hannover Prussia;
married Mary Leonard VIBBARD June 1841 at Waterford, New York,
died October 1871 at Buffalo, New York. He emigrated to America
via Baltimore (1829), was a merchant at Ypsilanti (1838-1849) and
General Agent for the Michigan Central Railroad and Michigan
state senator while living at Detroit. Then he moved to Buffalo
(1851) where he became General Agent for three rail and shipping
lines from Buffalo west thru Canada and Lake Erie to Detroit and
beyond. After retirement (1867) he became U.S. Consul at
Koblenz, Germany until his death.
Gerta Hafner, a professional genealogist in Germany, was unable
to gain access to the Liebnau Lutheran churchbook in 1992. (The
sole researcher authorized by the pastor refused to open it
stating he had not encountered the surname in his 30 years of
research there). No microfilm of Hannover churchbook records is
available due to opposition from the church leaders. Julius had
a sister who spelled her name Juliana MOEBUS living in Bucks
County Pennsylvania in the early 1830's. It is not likely her
surname was spelled Moebus or Moebius at birth - more probably
changed by a clerk on immigration. He also had a younger
relative Movius MEYERS. Any information on this family or the
MOVIUS, MOEBIUS, MOEBUS, MEVIUS, MOVIA and MEVIA surnames in your
ancestry will be appreciated and additional information
shared.
I recently discovered and am also seeking information on Daniel
Joachim MOVIUS born 4 January 1697 at Winsen / Aller, Hannover,
died 3 September 1767 at Heiligenloh (NW of Hannover). He
graduated from Jena Universität 5 October 1717 and was a
private tutor retained by Oberamtmann Johann Phillip PALM at
Ehrenburg (Hannover) and later was pastor at Heiligenloh (1728).
This is from: Schloss-Kirchenbuch Hannover (1680-1812) -
see deatils under the "Hannover Sources" Section below). Daniel
married and had at least one son, Johann Christian Movius (born
Heiligenloh 1730, died 6 March 1803) who graduated from
Göttingen Universität 13 April 1750 and was General
Auditeur. Is it possible Daniel was the great grandfather or
great uncle of Julius? While no microfilm of Ehrenburg,
Heiligenloh or Liebnau is found, Winsen on the Aller River
(downstream from Celle and NE of Liebnau) has much information on
FHL microfilm (6 topics, 13 collections) for me to look at.

I have a ancestor, Eduard KOHLMANN, born in Hanover, Germany who
arived 20 June 1961 on the ship "Albani" from Bremerhaven to New
York. I am looking for his wife Margaretta WEITZEL. When she
came to America? Did she come on the ship with her husband?
Did they marry in New York or in Germany? There first child was
born 1862 in either New York or New Jersey. According to the
1870 US Federal census she was born at Elba Hesion in Germany.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: The "Surname Search section of the FHL
Catalog includes 3 Kohlmann listing including an old Netherlands
family and 12 for Weitzel - I think one is a Hesse line. Hesion
is likely a phoentic spelling of Hesse.

I am searching for information about my grandmother Caroline
RAUF, born at Osnabruck, Provinve of Hannover 7 May 1877. When
she came to America she married Henry George HARDEWIG at White
Oakes (Cincinnati), Ohio, 23 June 1898. They lived there for a
few years and then moved to Hamilton, Ohio where they lived for
the rest of their lives. They had 5 children, George, who died
at age 14, Rose, Alvina, Oscar and Henry (Harry) Hardewig. I
know that they had relatives in the Cincinnati area. If anyone
has any information concerning either of these families, please
contact me. It is very difficult for me to get to the Family
History Center (FHC), thus I'm using the computer to be my
biggest helper. Thank you.
Webmaster's Note: What are the married names of Rose and
Alvina? Have you checked the 1900 census for Cincinnati? Have
you contacted genealogical societies for Cincinnati and Hamilton,
Ohio? The Palatines to
America probably have chapters covering both of your
locations and some of the leaders may have eMail addresses. Try
to get a Cincinnati city directory of 1899 and 1900 searched for
your surname relatives.
There were a few Catholics in Hannover Province but it is
primarily Lutheran. There are some very limited Catholic records
of the Osnabruck Dom (only the year 1813 and the year 1868) on
FHL microfilm #1336728 as items 1-2. Have you excluded the
possibility she emigrated through Hamburg (which has ship
passenger records, although Bremen is closer to Hannover)?
While you say it is difficult to get to an FHC, it still is the
best way for you to solve your problem in Germany. The one
listing of Rauf in the FHL Catalog infers the possibility of a
Swiss heritage for that line in America. In difficult situations
like yours, where no passenger list or church records apparently
exist,
searching Die
Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen Volkes at an FHC is a must.
Also search the LDS Ancestral File at the FHC and especially look
for others searching your surnames - they may have answered some
of your questions.
The Internet can help you in many ways, such as using web search
engines like HotBot and AltaVista to provide listings of your
surname on the WWW (see the FEEFHS Genealogy Toolbox).
But the Internet does not replace the traditional research,
methods and effort that have been in existence for decades.

I am looking for information on Wilhelm Augustus DIETRICH AHREND
born 6 March 1822 at Lautenthal, Kreis Zellerfield, Kingdom of
Hannover. His mother was Henritte DIETRICH. Her father was Karl
or Carl DIETRICH who died about 1883. Wilhelm AHREND came to
America about 1842 and married Falby BASS on 30 September 1844 in
Franklin County Mississippi. Wilhelm became William in America.
He made at least one trip back to Germany in connection with the
death of Karl DIETRICH. I would like to know the ancestors of
these families. Thanks for your help.
STELLING, Dolores

eMail address: morin@alaska.net
I am searching for birth, church and family records of Herman
STELLING, born in Hanover, Germany 26 August 1848. He fought 21
battles in the Franco-Prussian War. He emigrated from Hamburg to
New York, arriving 22 April 1874 on the ship "Westphalia" at age
25. Emigration records from Hamburg stated he was from the town
of Hannah or Hammah. He married Adelheid Margarete PETERS on 17
July 1875 at Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. He died 24
February 1922 at Lake City, Minnesota.
I am also searching records for his wife, Adelheid Margaret
PETERS, born 5 August 1854 in Hanover, Germany. She emigrated 12
May 1875 from Hamburg to New York 12 May 1875 on the Ship
THURINGIA at age 25. Emigration record from Hamburg states she
was from town of Heinmelpfortew (Himmelpforten). She died 15 May
1921 at Missoula, Montana. Thank you for your help.Z
TRACE, Viv
eMail address: mvtaat@aol.com
I am looking for any information on a Jacob BERG born October
1822 at Hanover, Germany who came to Iowa County Wisconsin circa
1850 from Hanover Germany. I believe he came with a sister
Magdalene BERG and possibly with a wife named Appolonia LINDEN /
LINDON (born circa 1820, died 8 February 1870). One child born
1850 also in Hanover Germany was a daughter, Catherine BERG. Did
he also have a brother named Jacob who went by Thomas? Was his
father Peter and his Mother Elizabeth? I am not for certain.
Any information on Jacob Berg and his wife Appolonia will be
appreciated.
I have the 1860 and 1870 census on Jacob Berg; on the 1860 it
states from Hanover Germany. I did find an immigration record
for him at the Lafayette County courthouse that just states from
Germany. I have all of his land records for property bought and
sold in Lafayette County. He signs his name as Jacob Berg and
wife Appolonia Berg. So I know this was correct spelling, but on
the census for 1860 and 1870 he is listed as Jacob BARISH. I
have confirmed this is my Jacob and his family. On his death
certificate he is listed as Jacob BERGER, his parents Peter and
Elizabeth Berg, his place of birth Germany. However on his will
when he died is Jacob BERG.
Webmaster Note: You might consider looking at the Hannover
Civil Register of births (1810-1879). Jacob Berg's birth and his
parents names might be on film #0492821 (1811-1827). Also in the
FHL Catalog on CD-ROM, under Hannover, Hannover, look under the
"Genealogy" topic and note the Schloss-Kirchenbuch (1680-1812) by
Hans Funke - a book at the FHL in Salt Lake City - and the two
Hannover cemetery records on microfilm. These might offer leads
regarding Jacob's parents if the civil registration confirms
their names.

I am looking for the parentage and birthplace of Heinrich Wilhelm
DELBRUEGGE, born 1827 somewhere in the Kingdom of Hannover. He
emigrated to United States in 1851 and in 1853 married Augusta
Maria Leuiese DIERING (born 1830 in Hannover) at St. Louis,
Missouri. His sister Katharine Wilhelmina DELBRUEGGE was born
1828 at Nuenkirken bei Melle, Hannover, but I have not located
church records or parentage for either.
WARNER, Ruth

I am seeking the father of Martin GRUNEWALD, born 22 February
1838, possibly at Hanover, and his brother John, born 1835 at
Hanover. John married Ernestine. Her mother was Anna, born
about 1815 (she could have been a HOFFMAN). The family emigrated
to the old Gulf port of Indianola Texas in the 1840s - perhaps
1848 - and settled in Goliad county Texas.

George Harry LUHMANN and Meta MAHLER came to the United States in
March 1888 from Verstarder Hemmor, Hannover. Three of their four
sons came with them: Henry, Harry and John Henry, born 3 June
1866. Klaus remained in Germany. John Henry married Marie BODE
/ BODA in 1892. They had four children: Meta, George, Marie and
John Henry, Jr.
This last John Henry was born 2 Sep 1897. The 100th birthday for
John Henry LUHMANN is on 2 Sep 1997. He would be thrilled to
hear from any relatives still living in Germany.
We would like to exchange information with any relatives living
today and would welcome any news of Klaus and his descendents.
We are also interested in learning more about Verstarder Hemmor;
perhaps where any archives might be kept from 19th century
newspapers and civil records.
John Luhmann would love to get in touch with his relatives in
Germany, as would his five children. My involvement is through
my sister who is his daughter-in-law, so I'm not related to him
but I love him dearly and am very close to all his family. I'm
also the only one involved with genealogy research. I have
written to the ten Luhmanns listed in the Hannover telephone
directory. I have also sent e-mail letters to the three Luhmanns
in Germany who are on the internet. Thank you for your help.
