BACHMAN, Jerry
eMail address: bachmanj@spectra.net
I am researching the family of Johann Heinrich BACHMAN who
emigrated to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania from "Kur Hessen" about
1840; he was in his mid-20's (born circa 1815). A cemetery
record for his eldest son lists the place of birth as "Casbrum."
I haven't been able to find a town with a remotely similar
spelling anywhere in that area (or anywhere else for that
matter). Johann's wife was Anna Catherine KUHLMANN who appears
to have come from Solz. Any help with the location of Casbrum
would be much appreciated.
COURSEY, Graham
eMail address: gcoursey@bluecrab.org
I am researching the family of Martin Heinrich Ludwig
LOEWENSTEIN. Generally, he called himself Heinrich Ludwig
LOEWENSTEIN or Louis LOEWENSTEIN. He was either Lutheran or
Catholic. He was born at Nidda, Hesse-Darmstadt 3 August 1824.
He emigrated to the United States in 1849. I am very interested
in corresponding with others who are researching this family.
DRALLE, Sandra
eMail address: SEDMush@aol.com
I am interested in finding out the true location of the
birthplace of my great grandfather, Henry C. DRALLE, who is
supposed to have been born in Hessel-Cassel, Prussia on 21 May
1817 and was buried in Knox City, Missouri on 18 October 1910.
The middle initial "C" may stand for Charles or Chester. His
first wife was Mary Ann Verlinda REPTON (or UPTON, depending on
what reference you use). They were married 18 September 1849.
This is the first known date for him in Missouri. He and Mary
had three children. Mary died in child birth 22 October 1852. On
4 January 1854, he married Josephine DELL, my great grandmother,
who was born at New Orleans, Louisiana 17 February 1836. She was
buried 9 May 1900, probably at Bismark, North Dakota.
They had 13 children, the sixth of which was my grandfather,
Robert E. Lee DRALLE, born 4 December 1863 at Quincy, Missouri.
On 1 Jan 1896, Robert married Annie DANCE at La Belle, Missouri.
She was born 4 Oct 1874 at Lewistown, Missouri. In 1901, the
family moved to Bismark, North Dakota. Robert E. Lee DRALLE was
buried 8 January 1936 at Bismark, North Dakota. Annie (DANCE)
DRALLE was buried 27 August 1933 at Menoken, North Dakota. My
own father was buried 8 January 1964 at Visalia, California. I
have a great deal of information on Henry C. DRALLE after he came
from Prussia; however, I have nothing on him before that
time.
EBERBACH, Mary Ann
eMail address: EberbachMA@aol.com
I am researching my husband's great-grandfather, Johann H. HAMPEL
born 16 June 1834 at Niederasphe, Hessen, Germany. He emigrated
to America in 1855 and married Margaretha MUTH on 23 Feb 1859.
Johann died 9 January 1912 at Moscow Mills, Missouri. Margaretha
was born 4 October 1839 at Sterzhausen, Germany and died 23
December 1903 at Moscow Mills. They had six children: 1. Johann
Anton born 20 October 1859, died 26 June 1942, married Margaretha
NAU 15 October 1885. 2. Elizabeth Marie born 8 January 1862,
died 1 June 1943, married Wilhelm MUNZEL 2 June 1881. 3. Anna
Gertrude born 6 February 1865, died 25 March 1938, married (1)
Charles BAKER 18 December 1884. One son, Wilhelm BAKER born 10
January 1887, died 3 March 1887, is buried at Anderson Hill
Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Missouri. She married (2) William
EBERBACH. 4. Katharina born 6 February 1865, died 3 October
1875. 5. Maria (Mary) born 1868, married George H. BOEDECKER 7
December 1892. 6. Heinrich Johann (William) born 25 March 1874,
died 24 November 1879.
EIFERT, Kevin Carl
eMail address: kevinandterry@2dogs.net
I am researching the EIFERT family. Adam EIFERT from Hesse-
Darmstadt, Germany had six children: George, Frank, Henry, John,
Elizabeth and Charles. His son, Henry (also known as Harry) was
born 1875 and died in 1949. He married Edna SCHEAFER in 1902,
probably at New Paltz, New York. Henry and Edna EIFERT had a son
named Charles Henry, born 1903, died 1991. He married Ella CLARK
in 1924, probably at New Paltz, New York. I have found two
emigration entries on other EIFERTs: 1) Immigrant ship "SS
Pennland", 17 December 1888, #69, Joh EIFERT, 22, Male, farmer
Germany New York steerage amidship - Danernh??m. 2) EIFFERT,
Johann Jacob, 12 December 1802 (from passenger list of Hessian
emigrants of the 19th century, approx. 1840's?). I've also found
a church record from Hintersteainau (Hessen) which mentions
several EIFERTs from about 1698-1747.
GOULD, Elena Marie
eMail address: Szegould@aol.com
I am doing research on John NEUMAN born in Darmstadt, Germany on
25 June 1857 or 58 (I believe) to Henry NEUMAN; no mother is
listed. John had the following siblings: George, Charles,
Louise and Margaret. John emigrated to the US and received his
naturalization papers sometime in 1892. Soon after receiving his
naturalization papers, he changed the spelling of his name to
NEWMAN. I believe that he married Nora KNOTTS and they had
George Harry NEWMAN on 10 January 1877, and possibly a
daughter, Mary E., in 1880. I don't know what happened to Nora,
but John remarried a woman named Louvara REED and had three more
children. I'm hoping that someone can provide more
information.
HESS, Bob
eMail address: MisterRH@aol.com
I am researching George Albert HESS, born 23 April 1853 at
Beerfelden, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, son of Johann Adam HESS
and Kathrina or Sophie ? George emigrated to America, sailing
from Bremen on the ship "New York", and entered New York City on
30 January 1868 by himself. He was naturalized at Brooklyn, New
York in 1886. The family is believed to be Protestant. George
married 1) Rachel Eleanor SNIFFEN born 1857 at New York City,
died 6 February 1893 at Brooklyn, NY. He married Rachel on 1
June 1873 in Brooklyn. They had three daughters that died young
(that I know about), all buried in Evergreen Cemetery at
Brooklyn, NY: Sarah E. died 18 June 1880, age 2 years; Florence
D. died 2 August 1889, age 3 years; and Jennie T. died 1
September 1893, age 12 years.
George married 2) Emma JAGER, nee DORSCH, born 25 March 1859 at
New York City, died 27 February 1931 at Jersey City, New Jersey.
He married Emma on 30 December 1894 at Brooklyn. Emma had two
children with her first husband, Paul JAGER. George and Emma had
two children (my branch): August, born 7 July 1895 in New York
City; not certain of his date of death. He abandoned his family
(my father) in 1923 and never was located again. Ethel born 3
March 1898 at Jersey City, New Jersey and married Larry BREAULT.
Ethel died 23 April 1949 at Jersey City, New Jersey.
HORNE, Bill
eMail address: bill.horne@ec.gc.ca
I am researching Jacob HORN, born 1732 in Hessen or 1728 in
Strasbourg. He was the son of Michel HORN and Barbe LORGARINE,
both from Germany (?). Jacob may have a brother named Jean,
however, I don't have any information on Jean. Jacob, probably
spoke French and emigrated to Canada in 1751 on the ship "Gale"
which left London in 1751. I am interested in finding his roots
in Germany or France.

KEYTE, Mitchell
eMail address: info@mitchellkeyte.co.uk
I am researching my great great great grandfather, Johann Jacob
GEBHARD, born at Frankfurt (Praunheim/Kreis Hanau) in 1820 or
1821. He married Eliza ISLIP (born 1824 at Swinehead) at St.
Martins in the Field at London in 1853. Johann had an older
sister named Leichen GEBHARD who was born at Frankfurt in 1812,
1813, or 1814. Johann lived at Birmingham, England from at least
1849 onwards and possibly earlier (he is a witness to his
sister's wedding in Gloucester in 1847). He died in 1883 and is
buried at Birmingham, England. My great great grandfather,
Martin GEBHARD, was born in 1854. We suspect that Johann Jacob
and Eliza GEBHARD returned to Germany as Martin's birth
certificate is not registered in the United Kingdom. Martin died
in 1921 and is buried at Birmingham, England. From then on, we
are all born at Birmingham, England.

I am researching Lewis KREILING (may appear as Ludwig GREULING)
believed to have been born circa 1805 in Hesse-Darmstadt,
Germany, emigrated to Pennsylvania and then Ohio. He married
Susan SIDLE on 20 August 1840 in Wayne County, Ohio. His four
sons were born and christened there at St. Michael's Evangelical
Lutheran Church: John Henry KREILING born 10 October 1841;
George KREILING (CRILING) born 6 December 1843, died November
1861 in Kentucky during the Civil War; Jacob KREILING born 23
March 1846, died 17 November 1912 at Napoleon, Ohio; and Lewis
KREILING born 20 January 1849, died June 1929 in Williams
Coounty, Ohio. I believe that Lewis KREILING (or Ludwig
GREULING) died in Henry County Ohio in the 1860's. His religion
was Lutheran.

This replaces my query that was on Hessen Archive 97: I am
researching Wilhelm HEBERER born circa 1788 in Germany, married
Anna Maria WAELZ (daughter of Jacob WAELZ). Anna Maria was born
31 October 1794 and died 28 November 1851 at Dietzenbach,
Starkenburg, Hessen, Germany. Their children (all born in
Dietzenbach) were: 1) Philipp born 12 January 1818; 2) Wilhelm

1826; Johann Georg born 21 October 1827, married Margaretha KEIM
6 March 1855, died 12 December 1867 at Dietzenbach; and
Heinrich born 2 February 1831. I need further information on
Philipp HEBERER (son of Wilhelm HEBERER and Anna Maria WAELZ)
born 12 January 1818 at Dietzenbach, married Magdalena
MUELLER 9 February 1843 at Dietzenbach. Magdalena was born circa
1813. Their children were: 1) Johann Michael born 14 February
1842 in Aufenau, Prussia (before their marriage); 2) Helene born
14 November 1843 at Dietzenbach, married Raphael BURKHART, died
10 December 1928 at St. Louis, Missouri; 3) Johann Jacob born 12
May 1845 in Dietzenbach; 4) Johann Georg born 18 March 1847 at
Dietzenbach; 5) Johann Georg born 10 March 1849 at Dietzenbach,
died 1 Sep 1849 at Dietzenbach; 6) Anna Maria born 19 August
1850 at Dietzenbach; and Nicolaus born 2 September 1852 at
Dietzenbach. The family emigrated to the United States in 1852
after the birth of Nicolaus and are believed to have settled in
Darmstadt, St. Clair County, Illinois. Helene eventually moved
to Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois.

eMail address: ellen1205@aol.com
I am searching for John or Johannes DARMSTADT, born circa 1795 in
Hesse-Darmstadt, possibly at Ebersheim. His siblings could be
Phillip, Catharina, and Anna Maria. He married Anna or Maria ?
about 1816. Their children were: John born 1817, Jacob born
1835, Sebastian born 1844, and Margaret. All were born in
Hesse-Darmstadt. All or most all emigrated about 1854, settling
at Cleveland, Ohio. I'm looking for verification of Joannes
DARMSTADT'S first name, place of origin as Ebersheim (or
Zomheim), any emigration information (debarkation port, date,
passenger ship name, etc.)
MEINEKE, Judith
eMail address: Lark517@aol.com
I am researching Wilhelm GRAU born 11 May 1856 at
Brauchenbrucken, Germany. He stated he was from Laufenbaukurken
?, Germany. He married Anna Maria Frederica UECKERMANN from
Berlin, born 9 November 1864. I do not know the date of their
marriage. He was in Garde Dragoner, #3 Eskadron, in the Prussian
Army stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. They emigrated to the U.S.
approximately 1882-1884. Wilhelm (aka William) died 12 November
1918 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the victim of a train accident.
Anna Maria died 14 July 1922, age 57, at Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.
Their children were: Anna Maria GRAU (my grandmother) born 24
Feb 1885 in Allegheny City (Pittsburgh), PA, died at the age of
91 on 17 October 1976 in Orlando, Florida. Other children were:
Anna GRAU KITCHEN born in 1901; William GRAU Jr., emigrated to
America around 1880 and settled at Allegheny City, Pennsylvania.
This is all the information I have. There are a few more
siblings, but I do not know their names.
PELLY-LUTHER, Marla
eMail address: mplmjpl@email.msn.com
I am researching the family of Philip ESKEN born in the Hessen
-Darmstadt region of Germany in 1800. He married Elizabeth
BAKER, daughter of Casper and Anna Barbara SHAFER BAKER, in 1821.
Together with the BAKER family, he and his family emigrated to
the United States in 1828. Supposedly they were from Vemorate,
but I have not been able to find a town of that name. They went
to Pennsylvania and are on the 1850 Federal census for Somerset,
Brothers Valley Township. Others related to these families are:
John BAKER, Henry ESKEN, Cathryn BAKER, Mary BAKER, and Peter
BAKER. I would like to hear from anyone who believes there is a
family connection.
REGAN, Nancy

(Lutheran?)
I am researching Eckhard or Eckhart DORWEIS born 1826 at Mosheim,
Hessen Cassel, Germany. He was probably Lutheran. He emigrated
to the U.S. from Bremerhaven, departing 19 March (year unknown)
and arriving 1 May. He enrolled in the 46th Regiment of New York
Volunteers on 12 September 1861. He was discharged from the
regiment 27 December 1861 at Hilton Head, South Carolina. His
occupation in the regiment was painter. He may have died in
1862, but he may also have been alive in 1870-1879. He married
Eliza (maiden name unknown). Eliza married Henry BROWN after
DORWEIS's death. Their children were: Christina; another
daughter; and John Herman, married Caroline KRATZ (born at York
PA--died 17 May 1940 and is buried in Western Cemetery at
Baltimore, MD) on 26 February 1888, died 17 February 1931.
John and Caroline had five children: Laura, Catherine, Marie,
Herman, Alvin born 30 July 1900, and Anna. None of the four
girls ever married.
REED, Duane

(Lutheran)
I am researching Johann Sebastian LIEBIG born 17 March 1719 at
Niederhausen, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, died in
Darmstadt 19 October 1794. He married Anna Margaretha WEBER.
It is said in the family that he is an ancestor of my wife, but
no connection has been made to the first LIEBIG for which we have
good information. He is Frederick Rudolph LIEBIG, born 1826 at
Reading, Pennsylvania; died 13 October 1914 at Altoona,
Pennsylvania; married Mary Magdalene EXLER in 1851. Frederick's
father (name unknown) is said to have come to the U.S. in 1801
and was an architect. Mary Ann was born 1829 in Alsace
Lorraine, died in 1916, probably at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.
The only child known to us is Cristina Estelle born 21 July 1861
at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. The family was Lutheran. I am
working from both ends trying to tie the two families
together.
ROCKENHAUSER, Ginny
eMail address: BVRock@aol.com
I am researching Henry ROCKENHAUSER, born about 1834 in
Hesse-Cassel, Kurhessen, Germany. Alternate spellings for name
may be ROCHINHAUSER, ROCKESHOUSEN, and ROOKERHOUSE. Emigration
would have taken place before or about 1850 to the Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania area. The name Henry ROOKERHOUSE first appeared on
the U.S. census index for 1850. Henry is believed to have died
before 1900. I have found him on the 1880 census, but not the
1900 census. He married Kate ? She was listed on the census
as
having been born in Germany. Her death date is unknown but I
believe that she died in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
According to the 1880 census, their children were (all born in
Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania) were: Maggie, age 20; Lizzie, age
17; Jacob (is this Benjamin Jacob?), age 14; Katie, age 10;
and Tillie, age 4. The family religion is unknown.
STROBEL, Dorothy
eMail address: strobel@cns-nw.com
I am researching Anna Josephine KEIDERLING, born at a small
village near Kassel, Germany. She emigrated to the U.S. about
1871. She married Friedrich RUGNER in Salem County, New Jersey in
1873. Friedrich emigrated from Lauffen, Germany in 1871 on the
ship "Hansa". Friedrich and Anna may have met on the ship. Anna
was the daughter of Peter KEIDERLING and Anna BROD. Her siblings
were: Lena, Kate and Peter. This is all the information I
have.
TABEEK, Debbie
eMail address: beaktobeak@msn.com
I am searching for the family of Lorenz SCHEID, born 11 July 1799
at Eichloch (now called Rommerscheim), Kreis Alzey, Rhein-Hessen,
Germany. I have searched the Eichloch records and was unable to
locate his birth record. His father is stated as being Heinrich
SCHEID on Lorenz's marriage record which was recorded in the
Eichloch Lutheran church records in 1826. I have been unable to
determine who Lorenz's mother was and I was unable to find a
marriage record for Heinrich at Eichloch either.
I believe that Heinrich's father may have been an Adolf SCHEID or
SCHAIDT. I found a George Heinrich who was born in Eichloch
during the right period of time, but I have been unable to track
him any further. I have determined that many of the SCHEIDs were
schoolteachers (including my great-grandfather), and perhaps
Heinrich moved to another village to teach school and Lorenz was
born in a neighboring village. Lorenz migrated to the village of
Lichtental, Bessarabia, Russia with his wife, Anna Maria ROKKER
(ROCKER) in about 1833 with a Martin SCHEID (his wife was
Freidericka KAMPF). I believe that Martin was Lorenz's
cousin.
WEND, George
eMail address: gwend@qis.net
I am researching the family of Peter WEND who was born at
Friedewald, Hessen, Germany 12 September 1843 and emigrated to
America, arriving at in Albany, New York in 1870. He married
Catherine APEL who was born in Kur Hessen. Peter and Catherine
had nine children at Albany. He died at Albany in 1910. Beyond
this, I know very little. I am mostly interested in finding who
his parents were. Any help in obtaining any information about
Peter WEND would be very appreciated.
