I am seeking information about my father, Bruno KUHNAPFEL, and
any of his ancestors. I have learnt that Bruno KUHNAPFEL was
born at what was then Nagladen, Krs. Allenstein (Ermland) in
East Prussia, on 5 May 1917 (Nagladen is now Naglady in Poland).
He had a sister named Ursula. I am interested to find out any
information about him. He and my mother became separated at the
end of the Second World War, before I was born, so that I never
knew personally. Eventually my mother and I immigrated to
Australia, and in recent years I have been trying to trace him
and his ancestors.
A helpful informant in Oldenburg, who has consulted the
registers of residence, has found out for me that my father
remained in Germany. He has discovered that Bruno KUHNAPFEL came
to Oldenburg at the end of 1945 and married Adelheid SCHULZ on 2
January 1947. Two children were born to that marriage, Ursula
and Brigitte, whom I have now met. The marriage was, however,
dissolved on 20 May 1953, and my half-sisters were not able to
give me much information about his subsequent life. My informant
was not able to determine my father's exact residence between
1953 and 1957, but it appears that he was living at Rotenburg.
He married Judit Maria DAUER in 5830 Schwelm AZ 74-57 on 20 May
1957. The couple moved to 5100 Aachen in 1960, and the marriage
was dissolved on 18 February 1962. Apparently, no children were
born of this marriage. In November 1969, my father registered
from Aachen to 5170 Julich, and in 1971 he registered to 4044
Kaarst. In March 1971 he gave notice of leaving Kaarst, but
there is nothing more in the registers of residence to tell where
he went to from there. The German Red Cross Search-office in
Munchen has informed me that his last address was at Julich
(Nordheim-Westfalen) in Germany and that he died on 24 February
1974. When my husband and I visited the cemetery at Julich in
1996, however, there were no records of his being buried there.
That is all I know about my father, and I would like to hear from
anyone who could fill in the story, or who could inform me about
his ancestors.

I am looking for information about my grandmother's family.
Her name was Anna NORGALL, and she was born in Konigsberg,
East Prussia in 1897. She and her older sister Martha
immigrated to the US in 1909, leaving their brother, Ernest
Otto NORGALL in East Prussia. Ernest was born at Konigsberg in
1893. Their parents were Heinrich Herman NORGALL, (father), born
in 1856 at Poschlocken, died 30 July 1900 at Konigsberg, and
Augusta Ottellie SHIRRMACHER, (mother), born on 16 November 1860
at Guttenfeld, East Prussia, now Dobrzynka, Olsztyn, Poland, died
8 February 1909 at Konigsberg. Anna and Martha stayed in touch
with each other in the U.S. Both are now deceased. I know that
they never saw their brother Ernest again, but I believe they
exchanged letters. I am looking for information about their
ancestors, and any living relatives of Ernest Otto NORGALL. I
have been unable to find the surname NORGALL anywhere.
I see a listing of 5 persons named Norgall submitted by a
researcher, printed in Die Pommerschen Leute newsletter
and listed in the Die Vorfahren database posted on this web
server. Use the FEEFHS Website index to search for that
surname.

I am trying to find information on my mothers family. She was
born Lutheran at Konigsberg, East Prussia in 1926 and lived at
Pillau. My mother was Rotraut Eva Maria SCHWEICHLER, born 17
October 1926. Her father was in the German Navy; he was Hans
Otto SCHWEICHLER; born 28 January 1904. Her mother was Gertrude
(GUDOU) SCHWEICHLER born 16 September 1909. To the best of my
knowledge they where all born at Konigsberg East Prussia. I
know Pillau is now a Russian Oblisk called Baltijsk and
Konigsberg is Kaliningrad, Russia. I would be greatful for any
help.
FELTER, Fred A.

I am seeking information regarding my ancestors from East
Prussia. Bernhard FELTER was born 16 February 1825 and died 1882
at Adolphswalde. He married Wilhelmine SCZECK. He was an
Instman at Raude. They had a child, Heinrich August FELTER, born
20 June 1864 at Raude and died 27 November 1925 at Essen-
Stoppenberg. He married Wilhelmine PLAUMANN, daughter of
Gottlieb PLAUMANN and Justine SAHM. They had a son, Friedrich
FELTER, born 15 April in East Prussia. I would also like to know
any information about these families and the exact location of
Raude and Adolphswalde. The family was Lutheran.

I hope to get more information about my ancestors from
Preussisch-Eylau (East Prussia). I know that my grandfather was
Carl Ludwig GEGNER. He was born 25 July 1886 at Landsberg. His
parents were Rudolf Leopold GEGNER, born 17 October 1855 at
Hoofe, and Therese Amalie WESTPHAL, born 18 April 1863 at
Landsberg. The parents of Therese Amalie WESTPHAL were Karl
WESTPHAL and Johanna ANKERMANN. Other surnames among my
ancestors are BOGDAN, BORM, BLAEDTKE, DORSCH, GNOSS, HOFFMANN,
MATERN, KENCKEL, KRUEGER / KRUGER, PLEHN, SCMIDTKE, STAMM and
WILK. All of them belonged to the Kirchspiel Eichhorn.
I read there was a Richard GEGNER who was Gemeidevorsteher in
Dixen in 1930 and he still lived there in 1945. And I know there
were GEGNERs at Albrechtsdorf as well. There are GEGNERs living
in the USA today and in the area of PFALZ / BAVARIA which seems
to be the place where they all came from. I think that all
GEGNERs are connected in some way. My GEGNERs must have
immigrated to East Prussia long time ago - others immigrated to
the USA - and I could also find the name in Denmark and at
Liebling (Banat) I would be very happy to find the connection.
That's why I try to collect any name and date I can get about the
GEGNERs.
And I would also like to know more about Karl WESTPHAL and
Johanna ANKERMANN. They had 4 more children: Auguste Johanne
(born 13 March 1857); Rudolph August (born 15 May 1859); Elise
Helene (born 15 April 1866); and Helene Amalie (born 2 April
1868). Thank you

I am interested finding relatives of Wilhelm Friedrich Hermann
KUEHL and his wife. He was born 16 December 1859 at Braunsberg,
East Prussia. His passport said he was a herdsman. He married
Emelie FOTH (FOTHE) in 1885. She was born 17 November 1864 at
Steinhofel, Germany. Wilhelm went by the name of Hermann and had
a sister who immigrated to Iowa, America, but I don't know her
name because they lost touch. Emelie had a brother who
immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and two sisters, Bertha and
Augusta, who never came to America.
JUDJAHN, Stephanie
eMail address: steffi@pyramid3.net
I am looking for information on my great-grandfather JUDJAHN,
Michael born at Timber, Ost Prussia 21 September 1884. An
alternate spellings of his last name is GUDJONS. He married
LEPKOJUS (aka LEPKOJJUS), Margarete. She was born at
Elbings-Kolonie, Ost Prussia in 1888. His father GUDJONS,
Christopher was born in 1821 at Kalehnen (I don't know
where that is yet) and was married to a ROCHELMEYE, Wilhemine
born 1826 at Ober Eiseln. Any information on these names would
be appreciated.

I am seeking information on the family of Richard JUNG/JONG,
born probably between 1870 and 1880 in East Prussia. Richard's
wife was named Auguste Klara. He had three daughters, Hedwig,
Hanna(h), and Meta. I believe the daughters were all born at or
near Bottrop, Germany. Allegedly Richard's family was originally
Catholic, but his father had a big argument with the village
priest and converted the whole clan to Lutheranism. Also, they
were allegedly independent farmers, maybe also landowners. They
probably moved from their East Prussian village to Bottrop,
Germany around 1900.
MILES, Trudy

I am looking for information on the following family that
immigrated to the USA in 1872 with their widowed mother, I have
no name for her. Her children were (1) Caroline GRUNWALD, born
September 20, 1852, (2) Charles GRUNWALD born February 3,
1858, (3) Fredrick GRUNWALD born 1861 and (4) Gustav Harmon
GRUNWALD born June/July 3, 1863. I just got Charles' Death
Certificate back that states he (and the others) were born at --
Grofendorf Kreis Koenigsberg, Prussia. I can only hope the
spelling of the birth place is correct. I would like to know --
is there a Grofendorf and is this the Koenigsberg that is now
Kaliningrad, Russia? If there is a Grofendorf, Kreis
Koeningsberg, Prussia and if it is now considered Russia --- how
does one get record information from that area now??
MCKERAHAN, Nancy

I am seeking information on the REISS and DEFROIDEVILLE families.
Dr. August REIS died 26 February 1868. He had married Natalie de
FROIDEVILLE or von DEFROIDEVILLE (she died in 1878). One of
these families lived on an estate at Bauditten, Gross-Arnsdorff,
Kreis Mohrungen. Their daughter, Luise, was born 24 February
1851 or 1852. She was married on 7 August 1879 to Dr. Francis
BROWN, who was studying at Berlin. She died at Scarsdale, New
York on 24 December 1949. August REIS is my
great-great-grandfather. My father, as a child (in the 1920's),
visited
his relatives at the Bauditten estate.
RATZKOWSKI, Torsten
eMail address: torsten.ratzkowski@gmx.de
I am searching for any information of the family name RATZKOWSKI.
Nearly all persons I could find with this name could lead their
roots to the region of the town of GOLDAP east-prussia. my last
great-grandfather, George RATZKOWSKI (RACZKOFSKI) had married
Luise LUBJUHN. They had at least one son, Eduard RATZKOWSKI,
born in 1851 at Wittgirren (Kleinlautersee / Kl. Szabienen).
Unfortunatly no church record exists of the time between 1800-
1850. In the tax-lists of 1831 I could find the name of Johann
RATZKOWSKI as the owner of a small house (Kate). He maybe could
have been the father or a brother of George RATZKOWSKI.
SCHWENK, Werner

I am searching for information regarding my Great-grandfather
Named August SCHWENK who died 20 April 1871 at Schmolainen (no
polish name known) and was buried in Guttstatt (now called Dobre
Miasto, Poland). He was of the Evangelical religion. I am
looking for possible data about his birth and location of birth.
His wife's name was Emilie born SPRINGER. She was born 25
August 1833 at Nerfken (Polish name unknown). Their sohn, my
Grandfather's name was Otto Leberecht SCHWENK. There may have
been two more brothers which I am also looking for. My
grandfather was only 6 month old when his father died and never
had any memories of him. We know only that he was buried in
Guttstatt, formerly in East Prussia, which is now Dobre Miasto.
There is regrettably no knowledge of his wifes parents either.
Information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for
the interest in my research.
STRUCK, Matthias

I'm searching infomation about my grandmother Grete KOSCHKULL
born LEMKE, and my mother Christel Waltraut STRUCK born
KOSCHKULL. Both were born near Memel, today Klaipeda, in
Littauen. My Grandmother was born somewhen at 1910. My mother
was born at 25 December 1941. Thank you for your help.

My great-grandmother, Luise Wilhelmine SCHREIBER, was born
15 February 1889 at Neidenburg, Ostpreussen, and died in 1967 at
Nienburg, Germany. Her father, Karl Gustav SCHREIBER (born 1864)
married Wilhelmine PIERZA (born 1869) in 1887. Two other
children of the marriage were Gustav and Anna.
Through a search of the IGI, I have come across only one other
PIERZA from Steffanswalde (Carl, born 1861, son of Adolph
PIERZA and Charlotte WEISZBERG). Since this is a relatively
uncommon name and is in the same timeframe as the birth of
Wilhelmine, I would hazard a guess that Carl is the brother of
Wilhelmine. Where would I be able to find additional resource
information regarding Steffanswalde and Neidenburg (including
their current names)? Thank you.

I am researching My husband's Prussian line. His great-great-
grandparents were Johann BOGUN, born circa 1835, and Gottlieba
BOGUN nee GROSSE, born circa 1842. They are listed on a shipping
list held here in New Zealand. The ship was the 'Humboldt' which
sailed from Hamburg October 1874 and arrived at Wellington,
New Zealand on 28 January 1875. On it were: Johann BOGUN aged
40; County Elsass; Occupation Beet Sort Sugar Grower,
Gottlieba BOGUN aged 32; Wife, Gottfried aged 9; son, Anna
aged 8; daughter, Wilhelmina aged 3; daughter, Johann aged 1
1/2; son. On other documents and certificates in New Zealand is
the information: Parents of Johann BOGUN were Michael BOGUN and
Charlotte BOGUN nee PRAS. Parents of Gottlieba BOGUN were
Reinold GROSSE & Anorte GROSSE nee COSMEDER. The birthplace of
Johann BOGUN was given as Osterode, Prussia. It is also given as
Koenigsburg, Prussia. The place of marriage for Johann BOGUN &
Gottlieba GROSSE was given as Koenigsburg, Prussia. Birthdate of
Gottfried BOGUN was given as 24 February 1863. His birthplace
was given as near Koenigsburg, Prussia. Also in a written
statement made by Gottfried BOGUN in 1919 he states that he can
remember living at Metz before coming to New Zealand.
Any help on these surnames or where in East Prussia they came
from would be great. Also, the occupation of beet sugar
growing; was this in East Prussia and if so, where? And why
would the family move from East Prussia to the Elsass? Would
this be anything to do with the Prussian/German army as the
Franco/Prussian war was 1870/1871 and I understand that Metz was
a garrison town for the army. Would it be possible for the two
older children to have been born in East Prussia and the two
younger children to have been born in or around Metz? All help
and suggestions would be welcome.
