DANIELS, Joanne
eMail address: joannedaniels@hotmail.com

(Roman Catholic)

I am seeking information on my ancestors: John Arnold STROTJOST; Joseph STROTJOST; and Ann STROTJOST. They emigrated from Westfalen, Prussia in 1860. I have very little information about them, other than they were Catholic, and traveled straight to St. Louis. I am looking for information about their exact town of origin, the port of entry in US, and the ship they travelled on. From my many years of research, I have determined that there are few, if any, STROTJOSTS left in the world, and so I am also seeking information about ANYONE with that name, as they are most likely related to me.

GAMMILL, Jewel

I am researching Henrick GUESS, possibly born at Exter, Westfalen, Prussia. Henrick immigrated to the United States in 1766 from Amsterdam. He married Mary EAVES. They settled in Fairfield county, South Carolina. Henrick changed his name to GOATS when he arrived in the United States.

GERVASI, Elaine
eMail address: eandtgervasi@earthlink.net

(Roman Catholic)

I am researching Johan SCHLICKMANN (SCHLIEKMANN), born 11 April 1811 at Wulfen, Prussia. He married Maria Gertrud TASSE, (born 1 August 1815), the daughter of Elizabeth REINKEN and Johan Heinrich TASSE of Altschermbeck, Prussia on 29 April 1845. They were Roman Catholic. Their children were John (borb 28 April 1847), JOSEPHINE M. (born 29 August 1848), BENJAMIN (born about 1852). I have also located the names: Maria and Constatius and Wilhelm. Maria and Josephine appear to have been born on the same date and may be the same person. I am seeking any information to substantiate the birth dates and children of the SCHLICKMANN / TASSE line.

GIESELER, Glenda
eMail address: GIESCJ@cs.com

My husband's great-great-grandfather was Heinrich GIESELER (born 1834) in Prussia. I am not sure what part of Prussia he was from. I do know that he immigrated to the United States (probably to New Orleans, Louisiana) in the early 1860's. Heinrich (Henry) also married Dora RHODEMANN (also from Prussia). I have found a Henricus (not Heinrich) GIESELER who was christened in 1835 in Wesfalen and I was wondering if possibly this was the Heinrich that I am searching for. Perhaps the spelling was wrong. If you have any information on this Gieseler family please let me know. Thanks.

GRIMES, Patty KLEIMEIR
eMail address: dgrim@aol.com">jdgrim@aol.com

I am looking for information about Heinrich KLEIMEIER, from Westfalen, Germany. born 5 June 1847. I believe he imigrated to the United States around 1866 or so. Any information would be great. Thanks.

HANCOCK, Diana RENSING
eMail address: rensing512@aol.com

I am researching my maiden name RENSING from Lingen, Niedersachsen, Germany. I have recently found another RENSING researcher related to me, and his branch of Rensings stayed at Lingen, Germany. My branch immigrated to America, and ended life in Clinton county, Illinois. My German relative, Josef FERRING, has been doing research for many years. He has a theory which is supported by much evidence that our Rensings originally came from around Ahaus and Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. Please read his letter at the end of this entry. If any reader has any books, knowledge about this an early Monk named Reinhold I would love to hear from you. If you descend from the Westphalia Rensings I hope you will eMail me. Thanks in advance for any information.

A brief family tree of my Rensing ancestors in Lower Saxony: The name is spelled RENSING / RENSINK / RENSINCK (and in the U.S. RANSING; some lines changed the spelling to RENSIN) Rudolphus (Roleff) Rensing Rensinck; born about 1710 at Bramsche, Lingen, Niedersachsen, Germany; died at Bramsche ?, Lingen, Niedersachsen, Germany. He was a Burgher at Lingen since 21 February 1743. His father's given name is unknown; his father's spouse was Anna COORS \ CORDES, born about 1710, Altenlingen, Lingen, Niedersachsen, Germany; died 25 August 1773 at Lingen (in the hospital). The marriage was befor 1735 at Bramsche ? - but not in Lingen. Their children: Johann (Joannes) Heinrich (Henricus) (about 1735-1790); Maria Aleydis (1738-); Anna Margarita (1738-); and Anna Helena

1.1 Johann (Joannes) Heinrich (Henricus) Rensing Rensinck, born about 1735 at Holthausen, Kingdom of Prussia; died 4 June 1790, Holthausen, Amt Lingen. His occupation was Labour at Flitsborg (in Holthausen, near Lingen); Religion - probably Roman Catholic. His spouse was Anna Gertrudis / Gertruda SENDKER / SENTKER / SENTKERs / SCHOLTEN, probably born about 1745 at Baccum-Ramsel, Niedersachen; died 13 February 1793 at Holthausen, near Lingen, Amt Lingen. They were married 20 November 1763 at Baccum, Niedersachsen, Germany. Thier children were: Maria Catharina (1764-1807); Euphemia Maria Cathrina (1764-1807); Anna Margarita Elisabeth (1766-1859); Joannes Heinrich Bernardus (1770-1824); and Gerardus Henricus (1772-1842).

Josef FERRING writes the following letter (Josef was born in 1926 and thus was about 75 years old in 2001): One of my grandmothers was a born RENSING, she died before I entered this world, but all her sisters and their daughters influenced my youth. What I remember from their many stories proved to contain some very historical truths. I have found that Diana and myself have a common RENSING ancestor. Over the years I have jotted down many dates and facts but am not sure if and where they fit together. Sometimes people you could get reliable answers from will not share family information. Sometimes I get evidence by chance which seems to be fantasy, but I have evidence in records to back up the fantasy. Just in the last few days I bought two books which contains information on Rensings from the Cologne / Rechkinghausen line.

It would seem that my line and Diana's line descend from a younger son, who did not inherit land but training. The books I found directed me to Gelderland, the Netherlands today which is not far from Ahaus, Westphalia (Diana's note: close to Ahaus is a town named Rensing). This area of Germany today has 8 wealthy farmers named RENSING and they own properties that date back to the 14 th Century. One man, a clergy who wrote a history of the RENSING "Ahaus-Clan", answered me and stated that he cannot see any connections with our Rensing Lingen-Line. He did not recognize, that Diana`s and my ancestors in Lingen were carpenters and masters in their craft. It was tradition in the "Handwerker-Gilden" even in those early times that they could not settle as masters and establish an their own business without having worked in some other places. There was no farm or house that could support all the children born there, so children moved.

In Cologne the Holy Reinhold lived as a monk and probably stonecutter until 960 AD. There seems to be no doubt among modern Onomasiolists that the name RENSING derives from Reinhold / RENZ. I am convinced Rensing families spread from there along the lower Rhine, and wherever they settled had good connections to the church and nobility and sometimes were very rich. This is what I can read from documents which texts I tried to gather over a long time.

In Recklinghausen lived Rensings that were connected to reigning nobility residing in Cologne. What I easily can trace from my registered files are a noted Hynrich Schulte top RENSINCH (1556); a judge Vincent RENSING zu Dorsten und Lembeck (1594), acting for nobilities even outside the "Vest Recklinghausen" (1606); Vinzenz RENSING, Statthalter des Vestes Recklinghausen und wohnhaft auf der Horneburg erwirbt die Wasserburg Wilbring. (This man represented the clerical and temporal government, lived on a "Schloß" and bought an other one.) This seemed to be a fantasy but is a historical truth! There are records from Melchior RENSING as the town-mayor of Recklinghausen.

HOWELL, Christy WOLETZ
eMail address: PaulChristy1231@aol.com

There is a place named Oberdorf in Westfalen (among other places). I am looking for family history of Anna PESCHL who married Anton (1) ? WOLETZ, having a daughter, Theresia WOLETZ, born 1847 at Oberdorf, according to Theresia's baptismal papers. Anton (1) Woletz's parents were: Joseph Woletz and Maria HUSEKA. Anna Peschl's parents were: Franz PESCHL and Katharina POLZ. Theresia had a child named John Louie Woletz, born 1874 in Germany. John's father was: Anton (2) Woletz. Note: Anton (1) and (2) are different people. Theresia and John immigrated to the USA when John was around 10 years old. Theresia came to marry Frank SNYDER, so Johns father did not come across with them. I am searching for any information on these people. I am at a dead stop here. I only have dates for Theresia's baptismal and John's birth. Anything else I can get would be a great help. Thank you for any help that you may be.

KIJACK, Sandy

I am looking for Carl MASCHMEIER, born 11 March 1842; married to Louise NIEMEIER, born 7 September 1848. The Maschmeiers and Niemeiers stemmed from Blasheim, Kreis Luebbecke, Westfalen, Germany. Carl's father was Christian Fredrick Ludwig Maschmeier, married to Anne Marie BRINKHOFF, both from "Prussia". I also have the following information: Carl first married Charlotte Neimeier in Germany and they had one son, Ernest MASCHMEIER. Charlotte died at age 32 and the widower, Carl, then married Louise NEIMEIER and they had eight children. Carl emigtared from Germany for America in 1881, and then traveled on to St. Louis. After 3 years he moved to the Dewitt, Nebraska area, where Niemeier relatives had settled and made arrangements to have his family come to America too. Louise Maschmeier with her five children and step-son (Ernest) left Germany in 1884.

I am seeking information on (Colonel Settler) Johann Heinrich ROMBKE / ROMKE and his wife, Dorothea Elizabeth. Johann died before 1833. They were parents of Conrad Diedrich ROMKE, born 19 July 1804 and baptized 22 July 1804, at Windheim / Petershagen in the Evangelical church. The baptism was entered into the church book. I would appreciate any available information of Johann Heinrich Romke's family history. I have the data on the family (now spelled ROMKEY) after Conrad's birth. Thank you for your assistance.

I am trying to locate my great-grandmother aaand grandfather in Prussia. Their names: Ernst Wilhelm WELPOTT (he also used William), aaand Louisa SCHEWE (his wife). I believe they came from Gehlenbeck Westfalen. Ernst was born 8 January 1831 in 'Prussia, Germany. I have his naturalization paper, where he gives up all alligence to the King of Prussia. I've looked for his naturalization application in St. Louis, Missouri, but they don't have it. It probably was lost in a fire. Louisa SCHEWE was born 28 December 1830 in Prussia. They emigrated from Germany in 1858 and they were married before they left Prussia. Thank you in advance for any information you may find.

I am seeking information on parents names, grandparents names, how long they may have lived there and, if they emigrated to Germany, where they were from originally. Thank You.
