I am seraching for the ancestors of my paternal grandfather
Felix Hermann BARBITZKI (master shipwright at the Danzig
shipyard), born 5 May 1884, whose father Hermann BARBITZKI was
born in 1855? and who was a jewelry setter and bronze artisan at
Danzig. Felix Hermann BARBITZKI's mother's first name was
Elisabeth (born 1858?). Felix Hermann BARBITZKI's parents may
have married between 1875 and 1883. Felix Hermann BARBITZKI
married Anna Auguste WIESE 17 October 1912 at Danzig. Felix
Hermann BARBITZKI had seven siblings, Alice, Gertrud, Paul,
Arthur, Walter, Max, and Bruno. Paul, Arthur, and Walter died in
WW-I.
I am searching for the ancestors of my paternal grandmother
Anna Auguste WIESE, born 2 August 1887 to Wilhelm WIESE and his
wife Luise. Wilhelm WIESE was a cooper in West Prussia, working
at one point for the Duke of Finkenstein. Anna Auguste WIESE had
one brother, Arthur (who died young) and four sisters, Emma
(married to SCHOENWALD), Henriette, Luise (married to KRISELL),
and Minna (married twice) and one stepsister, Mathilde, who was
the "illegitimate daughter of either Wilhelm WIESE or of his wife
Luise. This stepsister then also had an illegitimate
daughter.
I am searching for the ancestors of my maternal grandfather
Walter Richard PENK (a printer at Danzig), born 1 July 1887 at
Danzig, whose father was a master carpenter at Danzig with 18
journeymen and 12 apprentices and who frittered his business away
through drinking. This drunkard may have been born at
Wennigenstadt, Saxony, as the son of a mill owner. Walter
Richard PENK's mother's first name was Luise, and she
died around 1891 or 1892 at Danzig. Luise had a sister who
had emigrated to the U.S. and who returned to Danzig after
Luise's death to raise Walter Richard and his brother Fritz.
Fritz died at a young age of tuberculosis. Walter Richard PENK
married Johanna (Anna) Margarete HAASE 19 October 1913.
I am searching for the ancestors of my maternal grandmother
Johanna (Anna) Margarete HAASE, born 23 October 1891 at Danzig.
Her father was Willi HAASE, foreman at the Danzig shipyard, who
drank is money away, and who died at Danzig. Her mother was
Johanna von LOSCH, born 1852 or 1862 at Memel, and who ran away
from home at 16, and who was reputed to have been a great beauty.
Johanna von LOSCH had first been married to a SELAFF. Johanna
von LOSCH's father was a ship's captain and ship owner at Memel,
where a street once bore the von LOSCH name. She had a sister
named Betti. Johanna Margarete HAASE had 11 brothers, several of
whom were stepbrothers from her mother's first marriage to
SELAFF. Two of the brothers, Heinrich HAASE and Emil HAASE,
emigrated to the US before WW-I, Heinrich first who then
sponsored Emil. Heinrich did well in the US, became owner of a
factory in Michigan (Detroit?), became a US citizen, married, and
had two daughters, Mary and Henriette. Emil did not do well
after his brother stopped helping him and wrote home to
his mother and sister until 1930 and is presumed to have
perished in the great depression. The names of two additional
(step) brothers of Johanna (Anna) Margarete HAASE were Ernst and
Walter, either HAASE or SELAFF. Johanna von LOSCH died at Danzig
in 1933 or 1934.

I am seeking the origins of Friedrich Wilhelm Christoph LINOW,
"more correctly NEHLS" according to his marriage records on 16
November 1862, when he married Henriette Hedwig HUNDRIESER, born
about 1842, at Neustadt bei Danzig, West Prussia. He was a
master cabinet maker. This parish is now at Wejherowo, Poland. I
am not sure why both LINOW and NEHLS surnames were used. Any
information appreciated.

I am researching my husbands family, Frank POTTKOTTER and
Elizabeth KOBUS. It is believed that both were born at Byslow
Prussia. Frank was born 15 January 1857, and Elizabeth 21
October 1860. I believe Elizabeth's parents were Stanislaus
KOBUS and Marianna (UNKNOWN). I am also looking for Casper
Cornelius BERGOB, parents Casper BERGOB and Elizabeth (UNKNOWN)
and Theresa SCHULTE / SCHULTY, parents unknown. Casper Cornelius
and Theresa BERGOB were married at Dresden Germany in 1870. Any
info will be appreciated. Thank you.

(Lutheran/Evangelisch)
M. Mathilde NITSCH christened St. Sophien Church Berlin 21 June
1857. She immigrated to the USA as Mathilde SCHILKE 1 October
1888 on the ship "Marsala" from Hamburg with daughters Meta aage
6 years and Frieda, age 6 months (both were SCHILKE). Both
reportedly were born at Danzig. Albert DEMOLSKI was on same
ship. Albert and Mathilde married in US or Europe. They settled
at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Albert was christened at St.
Katharerinen Kirche, Danzig about March 1865. The family was
Lutheran/Evangelisch. I aam grateful for any information or
links.

FANTORE, Dan

I am searching for any information on BLUMBERG family from
Rehden, Graudenz, West Prussia. At times, church entries from
there, denote the family as von BLUMBERG. My end point is
Ferdinand BLUMBERG who was born about 1770, possibly in
Rehden. There were other BLUMBERGS in this town, but records
are spotty before 1800.
GROSS-LYNCH, Denise
eMail address: DLynch@itsusnow.com
I would like to ask for help in locating where my family
originated from exactely in West Prussia. Adolph GROSS was
born 4 August 1872 in West Prussia, Germany and died 18 January
1957 at Detroit, Michigan. He met Elizabeth FEIRABEND in 1897 in
Louisiana, the daughter of August FEIRABEND. (There are a few
different spellings of the last name ... FEIERABENT, FEIRABEND)
Adolph GROSS and Elizabeth were buried at Woodmere Cemetery,
Detroit, Michigan. They had the following children: 1) John
Phillip GROSS born 9 December 1909 at Plaqumine, Louisiana; died
14 June 1990 at Southfield, Michigan. He married Violet GUTZEIT
7 August 1937 at Detroit. Her parents are Adolph GUTZEIT and
Augusta FINZEL; 2) William C. GROSS, born 16 December 1906; died
26 March 1988 at Livonia Michigan; 3) Bertha Henrietta GROSS born
10 October 1902; 4) Marie GROSS; 5) Minnie GROSS. Adolph's
obituary states there was a Cecila GROSS, but my family cannot
find any records of this person. Please help me in locating any
information that links the GROSS family back to West Prussia.

I'm searching for the area in West Prussia from which my
great-great grandfather hailed from, William F. PETERS. He was
born in 1814. He married Katherina LEFMANN in Prussia in 1843.
However, they did emigrate to the US before the birth of their
first child in 1844. The children of William Peters are:
Johanna Peters, born 20 February 1844; Carolina Peters, born 18
December 1846; Louis Peters, born 18 December 1848; August
Peters, born 24 June 1850 (it is believed that he was born at
Port Hudson, Missouri), he was my great-grandfather; Henry
Peters, born 24 December 1852; and Fred Peters, born 05 February
1855. All the family members who could help with this hunt for a
needle in a haystack have passed on. I would appreciate help
from anyone and will share what information I have.
HOGAN, Sandra von PLINSKY

eMail address: slhogan@hotmail.com
I'm searching for any information on my great-grandfather, John
Arthur von PLINSKY, also may be von PLINSKY or PLINSKY. We know
he was born at Danzig on 4 May 1861. We know nothing more about
his family or religion. I cannot find the surname on any name
lists. I don't know when he immigrated to the United States, but
know he married my great-grandmother, Regine BADER (who
immigrated to USA in September 1887 from Bremen) at Chicago,
Illinois in 1888 or 1889. Any help would be greatly appreciated
as we can go no further in our family's search without some help.
Thank you.

(Lutheran)
I am searching for information on my great-great-great
grandfather Karl GEISLER (born 1834 at Rosenberg) and his family
from Rosenberg (now Susz, Poland) West Prussia. Karl GEISLER
married Wilhelmine TURECK (born 30 November 1838, location
unknown) at Rosenberg in 1861. I would appreciate information on
Wilhelmine's parents and birthplace. They emigrated to Michigan
in the US during the 1870's and eventually had 12 children.
Karl GEISLER's parents were Friedrich Wilhelm GEISLER
(birthplace and date unknown) and Anna Barbara SCHWANZ
(baptized 5 April 1797 at Rosenberg); they were married 27
February 1825 at Rosenberg. Who were Freidrich Wilhelm GEISLER's
parents and when and where was he born? Also, who were Anna
Barbara SCHWANZ' parents (they could have been Heinrich
SCHWANZ and Catharine KOSLANK)? Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
KNAPP, Bob
eMail address: Knapp133@aol.com
My great-grandfather Wilhelm KNAP (KNAPP) was born in West
Prussia in 1830 (exact location unknown). He married Wilhelmina
JANZ from Pottlitz, Kreis Flatow. They had five children born in
West Prussia, all in Kreis Schlochau. The family immigrated to
the US in 1874 arriving in New York on 14 May aboard the
steamship "Hansa". The five children were: Bertha, born 10
October 1857 at Schlochau; Robert Albert, born 17 May 1861 at
Pruetzenwalde (my grandfather); William George, born 14 Aug 1866
at Berlin; Emilie Auguste, born 6 February 1869 at Ziethen; Hugo
R., born 21 July 1873 at Lissau. Once in the US they settled in
the Albany, NY area and spent the rest of their lives there. I am
of course interested in finding informaation on their
predecessors but would also like to find info on what they did
for a living in Prussia, why they left to come to America (rumor
has it that they wanted to keep their sons out of the military)
and why did they move so much. Any help or guidance would be
greatly apprecialted.
LUEGGE, Erica
eMail address: gluegge@webzone.net
I am looking for information on the surname LUEGGE (Lugge). I
know that they lived in West Prussia before they immigrated to
the United States around 1870. I am not sure which port they
departed from or in which port they arrived. They settled in
Illinois and they were Lutheran. Karl and Albertine ? LUEGGE had
4 children: Fredrick was born 30 September 1865 in West Prussia;
William, August, and Rose; however Rose died while on the ship to
America. I am having a very hard time finding nnything on this
surname, so if you know anything, please contact me. Many
thanks.

PIELLUSCH, Frederick
eMail address: FPiellusch@aol.com
I am researching the PIELLUSCH family, a very rare surname.
Great-grandfather Friedrich PIELLUSCH was born at Waldemuth and
grandfather Carl PIELLUSCH was born at Klostersee in 1864 and had
a Lutheran confirmation at Bellschwitz in 1881. The family
immigrated to Berlin (now Kitchener) Ontario, Canada in 1882. My
father, Frederick W. PIELLUSCH was born at Berlin (Kitchener,
Ontario, Canada) in 1904 and immigrated to the United States in
1926. I was born in Michigan in 1942. I have located all places
on maps dating from the 1750's through confiscated Nazi maps of
1942. That is not the problem. Klostersee is a village on the
Klostersee, southwest of Rosenberg and Waldemuth is a village
located 2/3rds of the way and south of the road from Marienwerder
to Rosenberg. The PIELLUSCH families that I have been in contact
with in many are expellee families from the Gross Leistenau
region farther south. There has to be a connection but we have
not been able to establish it. I have also located three
PIELLUSCH families that live in Brazil. All the Piellusch
families located in Canada are close relatives of mine.
I mention the question of the socio-economic nature of a place
because raw genealogical name, place, date is of less interest
than knowing who these people might have been. My family, I
believe, were freed serfs who I believe exchanged their post 1836
land rights for the money to get passage to America. To me, if
true, it is fantastic that people who could not read nor write
(1891 Canadian Census) could and would make such a commitment. In
fact, the trauma was so great, my great-grandfather had to be
committed to an assylum after a couple of years of living in town
rather than on the land. Any information concerning this surname
would be most useful. I am also interested in the socio-economic
aspects of the area including the Junker families present.
PRINTZ, Chris
eMail address: cprintz@ic.net
I am looking for any information on the PRINZ family. Martin
PRINZ was born 6 November 1861 at Danzig. His brother, Leon
Prinz, was born 8 April 1870. Martin emigrated to U.S. around
1880 and Leon emigrated to U.S. around 1890. A third brother Gus
(Gustav?) PRINZ was born after Leon and was a soldier in the
German Army in World War I. Gus died in WW I. Father of the
three brothers was Anthony PRINZ and their Mother's name was
Josephine ADMOINSKE. I would appreciate any information on these
ancestors.
SCHIELER, Margaret J.
903 West Belltower Drive, Green Valley, Arizona, USA
(Protestant)
I am interested in discovering my father-in-law's actual birth
and baptism records. His name is Egon Erasmus SCHIELER and he
was born in Danzig April 20, 1908. His father (Rev. Caspar Erich
SCHIELER) and mother (Friedericka Dorothea Lisette SCHIELER) had
fled to Danzig from Germany because of religious persecution.
Caspar had a church in Danzig (Protestant). I would like to know
the church with which he was associated, as well as any
additional records on him or his wife. The inscription on a clock
given to Caspar by his congregation is dated September 24, 1911.
The family sailed for the United States out of Hamburg, Germany
in 1912. Any assistance you are able to provide in locating
specific information on all three family members while they lived
in Danzig will be very much appreciated.

I am looking for all relevant information about any "KOTTKE"

for information of the father of Johann KOTTKE, born in 1830 at

Caroline / Karoline KIELMANN, born at Obbadawo, Flatow (died,
date unknown at Rogalin).

I am looking for any information on the surname HORSTMANN. My
grandmother Margarethe HORSTMANN was born in 1911 at Kulm,
West Prussia. Around 1939 she was married to Harry SCHUELKE.
They lived at Grocholin, near the town of Exin, in Kreis
Schubin, Posen. My Father Hagen SCHUELKE was born there in
1941.
SCAIFE, Ruth Anne
eMail address: AScaife@aol.com
I am searching for the families of Friedrick KARNATH, his wife
Susanna HOFFMAN, children Mathilda, Bertha, Herman KARNATH born
at Danzig (Gdansk) Prussia. Mathilda was born Feb 1853 married
September 1878 to Wilhelm Heinrich HEIN, son of Gottfried Ludwig
August HEIN and Justine SOMMER of Zugdam (I think from Suchy Dab)
Prussia. Herman KARNATH m Christine SOMMER, and Bertha married ?
BRUNS. The children (Mathilda, Bertha, Herman, Wilhelm)
immigrated to the US after they married, but I dont think the
parents did. Any help with these families would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you
TIDRICK, Irene
eMail address: itidrick@home.com
I am trying to trace my Grandfather's linage and history. Joseph
DRISHINSKI emigrated from Prussia to the USA in February
1883. Family stories indicate that he lived in the area around
Danzig. I know that he and his wife, Mary KACZMAREK lived at Mt.
Carmel, Northumberland, PA, but I have been unable to find any
record of them there other than a naturalization record and
family hearsay. Joseph's naturalization record indicates that
he lived there. I believe that the spelling of his name must have
changed as there appears to be no one in the universe with it but
my family that I can find. All of my relatives that would have
had information about him and his roots are dead. Any
suggestions?
TURNER, Madeline WENTZEL
eMail address: family@europa.com
My greatgrandfather, Julius WENZEL, son of Martin WENZEL, and
his 3 brothers (Michael, Carl and Julius) were born at
Zempelburg, West Prussia in 1830-1840. They emigrated to America
via Quebec, stayed for awhile in Reedsville, WI and eventually
settled in Polk county, Minnesota. Somewhere along the line, the
name spelling changed to WENTZEL. Does anyone have any
information on the parents of Martin WENZEL or the wife of
Johann, Rosaliea TROJAHN, daughter of Michael TROJAHN? Seeking
WENTZEL - WENZEL - RADI - TROJAHN - JAHR.
VALLENDER, Jim
eMail address: vallenderjk@msn.com
The surname is SELTZ. There was Ferdinand, born about 1836,
said to have worked for the royal family of Hungary as a
gardener, fathered a child by the daughter of the house. Paid by
the royalty to emigrate with his illegitimate child to America.
Ferdinand's home was said to be Danzig. He married Susanne
JUSELKE in 1857. Ferdinand and Susanne brought Caroline (of
royal blood), age 4, and Gustave, age 2, to America in about
1859. Ferdinand eventually settled in Michigan and his brother
and family went on to Minnesota. A Minnesota SELTZ family is
that of Friedrich and Hennriette (BURANDT) SELTZ who reportedly
came
to America in 1862. Friedrich's son Gustave Wilhelm SELTZ was
born 1 October 1849 at New Puleschken, West Prussia, Germany. I
would like any help I can get on placing these SELTZ families.
Are Ferdinand and Friedrich related? Any SELTZ connections would
be appreciated.
WAGNER, Jayne CYROG
eMail address: jaynecyrog@hotmail.com
I am researching the family of CYROG from Schoenberg and
Sommerau, West Prussia. Elias CYROG and Louisa NIESKE had at
least two children, Christine CYROG FISCHER and Michael CYROG
(1833-). Christine CYROG married Georg FISCHER on 23 July
1832. Friedrich CYROG and Caroline had at least three children
who were Fritz (born 15 September 1844-), Carl (born 25 December
1845-) and Caroline (born 8 October 1848). Also, Friedrich CYROG
who married Henriette RADZICY (later changed in the US to ROGGE)
and had five children: Henrietta CYROG LOBITZ BEHNKE (born
December 1854 or 1856; died January 1905), Freidrich (born
1858-), Wilhelm CYROG (born August 1859-) who married
Maggie LANDGRAF (-, died August 1890) and later Ulrike PAUTZ
(born March 1860-), Maria (born January 1867-), and Edward
Charles (born 28 July 1870; died 27 November 1947) who married
Clara WEITZ (born 19 February 1879; died 14 September 1960).
Henriette CYROG LOBITZ, Wilhelm CYROG and Edward CYROG, emigrated
to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1880's. I found the family in the
evangelical parish files at Sommerau, West Prussia. Anyone who
has a CYROG on their surname list please contact me. I am the
granddaughter of Edward CYROG.
WEISHAAR, Daryl
eMail address: Ddd5799@aol.com
(Lutheran)
I am looking for information on the Lutheran family WEISHAAR.
There last German location was somewhere east of Schneidemuehl.
Immigrant Wilhelm (1832-1902) came in 1872 and formerly was a
foreman on a horse farm, perhaps an old Junker estate. His
father John (Johann) remained there, and was 75+ in 1880 per a
picture that I have. I don't know how to search immigration
records yet. The family emigrated to Marquette County,
Wisconsin. I still hope to go there, but now live in Florida.
Wilhelm and wife (maiden name RUEDE / RUDE, first name and birth
date are in my notes or available on a headstone in Wisconsin)
emigrated in 1872 and oldest son Louis, my grandfather, age 9 at
the time came with them. I think also there was one or two other
children. His two married sisters had preceded him but I don't
have names. I think at least one also settled in Marquette
county. The other I am not sure about. At one point one of
Louis' brothers went to live with a relative in Cleveland.
Perhaps initially to Wisconsin and then to Cleveland. Mainly I
am interested in Wilhelm and ancestors. It appears that Wilhelm
did have a target destination. All I know about Johann is that
they sent the photo in 1880 and he appeared about 75+ based on
Wilhelm's birth date of 1832 (from a headstone in the church
cemetery in Newton township, Marquette county.)
I think it was a great grandfather on my mother's side named
Gottleib KERST. He also lived in the Schneidemuehl area. He
came about the same time or just a bit earlier and settled
outside the same town in the same county but a different
township as Wilhelm WEISHAAR, who, from what I could learn, lived
in the country possibly ENE of Schneidemühl and settled ENE
of Westfield, the village in Wisconsin. Regarding the name, I am
aware of many variations, WEISHAAR, probably the German spelling,
WEISHAR, even a local politician WAARSCHAUER. My grandfather
somewhat, and two brothers, more so, were fair complected, one
with blue eyes so there is definitely a "white hair" ancestor
back there somewhere.

I am looking for family of my great-great grandfather. Charles
Hermann GAEBEL was born at Danzig 1 August 1835. His father was
Gottlieb GAEBEL, who died at Danzig 11 November 1859. His mother
was Henriette Louise JACOBSON who died at Danzig 25 December
1857. I think Charles Hermann GAEBEL had two brothers, Robert
GAEBEL and Gustave GAEBEL, and two sisters, whose married names
would have been BIERBRAUER and LUTECKE. I believe the GAEBEL
family may have been Jewish, although Charles Hermann GAEBEL
married Emma Leontine Louise SENECHART in a Lutheran church at
Paris, France in 1860.
