In my genealogical quest, I am attempting to discover some information about
a Jewish family that lived during the period 1850-1880 in Krojanke, Westpreuáen,
Preuáen, Germany (now called Krajenka, Poland). I recently visited the
town and found little to help me. I have looked at the Krojanke records of
Jews from the mid-1880's on microfilm at the Mormon Family History Library,
but am
unable to read German or understand the Hebrew script. Thus, I am hoping that
someone who has researched Krojanke might have come across information on this
family and can help me.
I am writing about the "NEUFELD" family. The documents that I have
are all from the United States and they have multiple different spellings for
that last name (NEUFELD, NEUFELDT, NEWFELDT, NEWFIELD, NEWFELD, NEUFIELD). My
information begins with the 1890 Police Census of New York City, which shows
the family living in Manhattan at 197 Rivington Street; the family (listed as
NEWFELDT) consisted of the head of the household Hyman, wife Johanna, children
Max, Amelia, and Harry, and sister (of Johanna) Bertha. I have a birth certificate
on Moses NEWFIELD, born on March 14, 1892, which says that the father Hyman was
a 34 years old Russian-born tailor and the mother Johanna being born in Germany.
Further search revealed a death certificate of another child Adelah (NEUFELDT)
who had been born in Germany and died at 2 years of age in 1886 after having
been in the United States for 7 months. Also, I found the 1886 New York birth
certificate for Leo NEUFELD who subsequently died of tuberculous meningitis in
1888. In late 1892, Hyman himself died of pulmonary tuberculosis.
Subsequently
in 1897, Johanna remarried to a Moses APPLEBAUM. It is on that marriage record
with the New York City Bureau of Records, that her birthplace is listed as
Krojanke, Germany. That marriage certificate also lists her father's name as
Moses NEWFIELD
and her mother's maiden name as Mollie GOLDSTEIN. I also have located the marriage
record for Johanna's sister Bertha NEUFELD, who in 1891, married Morris ROSENBERG;
that certificate again lists the birthplace as Germany and the father as Moses
NEUFELD and the mother's name as Millie (no last name).
In the 1900 U.S. Census
from New York City, Johanna (then in the household of her second husband Moses
APPLEBAUM) is listed as having been born in July 1857 in Germany and having
immigrated to the U.S. in 1884. The other child of Hyman and Johanna NEUFELD
for whom I
have information is Amelia: I located her Social Security application from
1936, in which she gives her birthdate as November 5, 1882 and birthplace as
Berlin,
Germany. The other noteworthy information is that Amelia and her brother Harry
are listed in the 1900 U.S.Census as attending "dumb school."
Thank you for any help you can give me.

I am researching my grandfather, Max HELDT, and grandmother, Mary
KOSKOWSKI. Max was born 16 April 1867 at Danzig, Germany and
immigrated to America, coming to the United States around 1895
and settled in Hempstead, New York. His application for Social
Security file out in 1936 lists his parents at Danzig as Thomas
HELDT and Mary ZEBLUSKI. I am trying to find any information on
this family in what was then Danzig, Germany.

We are looking for any information on Fredrich FANDREI who was
born 15 August 1823 at Alt Schwente, West Prussia, Preussen or
Anna Christina GRABOW FANDREI, born 26 October 1826 in West
Prussia. The immigrated to Jefferson county, Nebraska. These
are my great great grandparents. We are also looking for
information on Fredrich ELGERT, born 29 June 1853 - another
great-greatgrandparent. Thanks

eMail address: Dajean@hotmail.com
I am kooking for information on my great- grandparents and
grandfather. My great grandparents are Franz JURKIEWICZ and
Marie (nee MANDERFELD). Thet had 4 daughters, Thea or Thersa,
Frances, Barbara and ?, and 2 sons, Michael and John (my
grandfather). 3 sisters and the 2 brothers immigrated to the US
from Grudziadz, West Prussia around 1898. They lived in the
state of Illinois. My grandfather John was born 4 March 1880 /
1884. I was told my great grandfather was a professor at the
Dresden University and taught history or math and came twice to
the US to visit. I can't seem to locate anything on them, please
help me if you can. Thank you.
Webmaster's Note: While there should be a "Matrikeln
Register" for Dresden University, aand this subject is a research
specialty of mine, I have never come across one. The only thing
I see in the FHL Catlog under schools are two books (for the Holy
Cross Latin School and a Teachers College). Perhaps searching
the WWW with a WWW Search Engine will be more productive for
you.
CULMSEE, Paul
eMail address: terrie@wiredcity.com.au
My earliest known ancestor was born at Elbing, probably around
1720. His name was Johann CULMSEE. He married Susanna Agneta
HARMSEN at Hamburg 26 June 1740. I have an earlier record for
CULMSEE (from familysearch.org) which mentiones a Hans CULMSEE
born 1680. I am trying to find a link for the two. If anybody
can assist me in any way with this request I would be very
grateful. Thanks in advance.
DEMOLSKI, Angelika
eMail address: ademolski@hotmail.com
I'm searching relatives of Heinrich DEMOLSKI, born maybe in
Danzig (Preussen) or even Russia around 1860-1870. One of his
brother/sisters were Clara DEMOLSKI. He married Katerina (who
had been found as a baby in or near Danzig). Their children
were: Albert DEMOLSKI, Paul DEMOLSKI, Clara DEMOLSKI, Frida
DEMOLSKI, and Arthur DEMOLSKI (who during the 2nd world war went
to Russia and never came back. Albert was born 1900 in Danzig
and the whole family moved to Kiel around 1912-1914. If somebody
knows anything of the brothers and sisters from Albert or his
father Heinrich DEMOLSKI please write me.

I am searching for any information on my great-grandfather
Charles G FABIAN, born Karl or Carl G. FABIAN, in West Prussia
18 October 1855. His fathers name was Johann FABIAN. Johann's
father was Aaron FABIAN. Charles siblings include: Wilhelm,
Augusta, Herman, Jake, John, Wilhelmina, Anna, Otto, Justinn,
Bertha and Marie. Letters that my grandfather received have a
return address of Faultyard by Marienburg and Birdsong. I
understand that Marienburg is now known as Malbork, Poland.
Charles G. FABIAN came to the United States in 1872. He had a
sister, Augusta that worked in a castle in Marienburg and a
brother Otto that was in the army.
ENTMANN, Friedhelm

I am searching for the relationship from Paul Franz K. (later
ENTMANN) born 02 December 1902 at Kohling near Danzig, his
parents, Franz Johann (2 October 1870) at Rosenberg and his wife
Rosali (maiden name SCHIMANSKI), also my great-grandparents,
Johann ENTMANN (KATSCHINSKI) and his wife Berta (maiden name
KOHLBERG), at least they were living at Kohling. In 1921 my
father and my Grandfather changed (with their children) their
name "KATSCHINSKI" into "ENTMANN". A part of the family hadn't
changed it and another part emigrated to America. I wonder if I
ever will become (receive) some news? It would be great. Thanks
for any assistance.

I am looking for descendants of David SCHIEMANN and Katherine
KOMMEHANS. My information indicates Rosenberg, Marienwerder,
Culm, Cryste, West Prussia as the birthplace (1830s). Several of
the children immigrated to Chicago Illinois in 1880: August Carl
SCHIEMANN, Paul Fredrick Gustave SCHIEMANN,John SCHIEMANN,
Leopold Edward SCHIEMANN, Christopher Alexander Franz SCHIEMANN
in 1880. I am looking for descendants of those who stayed in
West Prussia: Dorthea Ida SCHIEMAN - GRIENKE ,Emilie
SCHIEMANN-SCHADE, Minna SCHIEMANN-WEIGEL, Clara SCHIEMANN,
Dorthea SCHIEMANN, Matilda SCHIEMANN- WOLFE and Anna SCHIEMANN.
The surnames SCHROEDER, PISCHOFSKI, DRESCHEL, MEYER also appear
on the tree.
My tree also lists a Roman Catholic priest, a doctor and a
blacksmith born to David SCHIEMANN and Catherine KOMMEHANS- no
names, only occupations. Would the Catholic Church still have
records of priests from the early 1800's? Were Catholics the
victims of the cleansing or Germans? I would love to know more.
Is SCHIEMANN a common name in that neck of the woods?
HECK, William
eMail address: bimah@earthlink.net
(Protestant)
I am searching for any information on August HECK, born in
1809. According to church recorcords Kloestitz, Bessarabia, he
was born in Grugetz, which is by Kammin, Poland. Other
information I have suggest that Grugetz is now called Grodziec.
The references to Kammin show up in an 1834 church record in
Kloestitz, Bessarabia and again in a marriage record in 1846. If
any one can help me verify any of this information it would be
appreciated. His religion was protestant. He had a brother
named Johann probably born in 1795. I have found a Kammin in
West Prussia, Northwest of Bromberg. Other town in that area are
Zempelburg, Frieland, Schlochau and Flatow. The map I am looking
at is from 1882. I have some information from a West Prussian
site (genealogienetz.de/reg/WPRU/wprus), which says that in 1806
an administrative district fur the Netzdistrict included the
Kreise of Bromberg, Inowraclaw, Kamin, Krone. I think this is
the same area as the Kammin I am looking at.

I am a descendant of Gustaf Erhard SCH&UTZER and have been
researching the family tree for some time now. Unfortunately,
I am in the process of moving and probably will have a new eMail

I am researching the following persons:
1. Robert GRASWITZ (or GRASCHEWITZ)-born October 1874 in
Danzig, West Prussia. Parents-Emilie FROST and Frank GRASWITZ. He
immigrated to the United States in 1884 or 1894, lived at
Buffalo, New York, and married Martha Elizabeth OTT 8 July 1899.
They had two children, Ida Emilie (5 February 1902) and Helina
Martha (4 January 1905 or 1906). Then they moved to Alameda
County, California in 1905 or 1906. He and Martha divorced 8
December 1910 and he disappeared soon after that. Possibly he
went to Oregon or Washington. Any information would be
appreciated.
2. Martha Elizabeth OTT (or OTTO) was born June 1879 at Lipnau,
West Prussia. Her parents were Marie LEPINSKA and Wilhelm OTT.
They immigrated to the United States in 1891 and lived at
Buffalo, New York. She remarried twice. Once to Karl
KRETSCHMANN and then a man with the last name of BRIGGEMAN. She
had 2 other children, Charles KRETSCHMANN (born 21 June 1912) and
Harold Arthur BRIGGEMAN (born 6 March 1915). She died 5 July
1940 in Alameda county, California.
3. Wilhelm OTT (or OTTO) was born March 1851 in Russia. His
parents names are unknown, but his father was born in Austria and
his mother was born in Germany. He immigrated to the United
States in 1888 and possibly lived at Buffalo, New York. He
married Marie LEPINSKA, but at some point he left her and moved
to Buxton, Oregon. There he married another woman whose first
name was Mary in late 1899 or early 1900. He became an US
citizen 23 October 1897. He had 2 children with his first wife,
Arthur OTT and Martha Elizabeth OTT. I would like to know what
happened to Arthur OTT and Wilhelm OTT. Possibly Wilhelm OTT
died in 1907 or 1908 in Oregon, but I have been unable to find
proof of that.
4. Marie LEPINSKA was born in Europe and immigrated to United
States. She died at Buffalo, New York, possibly in 1907. I'd
like to find out what happened to her. Thanks for your
help.

I am searching for the ancestors and family of my
great-great-grandmother, Pelagia Groefin PREBENDOW von
PRZEBENDOWSKA. She
was born 10 October 1800 in Kreis Neustadt (today Wejherowo)
near Gdansk. It was said the birth place was Redlowo, but I
asked for this place in the "Bischoefliches Zentralarchiv
Regensburg" and they couldn't find a village with this name. She
lived some time in Klein Katz (near Gdynia). Her grandfather,
who must been born about 1740 (+ or -) owned some estates near
Gdynia. She was married in 1835 to Gustav Adolph Ferdinand
Heinrich LEO (protestant). Because she should have been a Roman
Catholic and this marriage was the second marriage, it must be
registered in the civil registry (of Gdansk or Marienburg).
My questions: 1. Where should I search for this civil registries;
2. Where can I find land owner listings of Gdynia? As to my
gggrandfather Gustav Adolph ...LEO: he was born 1779 in Poznan
and died 1840 in Poznan. He was an higher official of the
prussian government in Poznan (Kgl. Oberregierungsrat and
vice-president) and knight of the black eagle order with the bow
and he got the iron cross, second class for participation in the
1813 battle. I couldn't find any birth registration (only death
registration) in the LDS microfilms and want to know his
ancestors too. What can I do more for finding birth register
or names of parents or brothers / sisters? Any help or advice
would be very appreciated.

I am looking for any information regarding the families of
BRISCHKE (Rosalie) and STEINKE (Thomas) who were the parents
of my great-great grandmother Juliana STEINKE, born 17 April
1819 at Behle, Germany (now called Biala, Wielkopolskie,
Poland). Juliana STEINKE married Martin KRUEGER, born 9
January 1818 at Riege (Deutsch Krone, Westpreussen, Germany
(now called Lezenica, Poland). Their six children were as
follows: Appolonia KRUEGER, born 1846 in Germany; Juliana
KRUEGER, born 1851 in Germany (my great-grandmother); Rosalie
KRUEGER, born 1855 in Germany; Anton KRUEGER, born 2 February
1860 at Wissulke, Germany, christened 12 February 1860 at

Germany, christened 30 March 1862 at Schrotz; Martin Stephen
KRUEGER Junior, born 2 December 1853 at Rosenflede, Germany.
The family emigrated from Germany (Hamburg) in July 1863,
arriving at Quebec, Ontario, Canada. Soon after arriving in
North America they immigrated to the area of Cleveland, Ohio,
USA. According to oral family history, Martin KRUEGER Senior
perished during the ship's crossing and was buried at sea.
Thank you all for your interest and efforts on my behalf.

I have been trying to find information about my mother's
family. My mother was Katherine SIEVERT MANLEY, and her
mother was Martha STREICH. My grandmother, Martha STREICH was
born 8 October 1863 at Witkow, West Prussia. Her father was
Michael STREICH. Her mother was Rosa HEITKRUEGER / HEITKRUGER
(or perhaps HEIDKRUEGER / HEIDKRUGER, or even HEIDKRIEGER). I am
looking for information about Michael and Rosa HEITKRUEGER /
HEITKRUGER STREICH, my grandmother's brother Michael STREICH
(born 1851), her sister Mary STREICH, her sister Anna STREICH,
and her brother Adalbert ("Al") STREICH.
My grandfather August SIEVERT was born 3 September 1858 at
Joliet, Illinois. His sister Mary was also born in Joliet,
Illinois. His older siblings: Dorothy and John SIEVERT were born
in Prussia. His father was Johann Daniel SIEVERT (or SIEWERT),
and his mother Anna WINKE. They were both born in Prussia in
1815. I suspect their family came from the vicinity of
Schneidemuehl, which is now Pila, Poland. If ever you run across
any information regarding any of these names, I would greatly
appreciate hearing from you.

be born in 1918) was born and raised in West Prussia, and his
family is from West Prussia originally. I know other names
of family members, however I do not know how they are related. I
know of Paul Albert JOESCHKE, who married Johanna Selma STOYKE in
1905. Their son, Kurt JOESCHKE, married Herta JADISCHKE in 1933.
My grandfather, Peter JOESCHKE was born on 7 November, but I am
unsure as to the year. He married Gabriela KAUFMAN in Austria,
and their son was born 1 August 1950, at Villach, Austria. In
late 1952, Peter, Gabriela and their son, Klaus, emigrated to the
United States, where they settled in Compton, California. Later
they had a daughter, Evelyn. That's about all I know. Any
information would be most appreciated.

I am looking for any information about the surnames of:
SIMINSKI, SIEMINSKI, and SCHIMINSKI. I have found family
members with all of these spelling. My great-grandfather was
Andrew SIMINSKI, born in 1847. His wife was Anna SZKODOROSKI,
born in 1852. They had a son, Anton, born in 1873. They all
immigrated to America in 1881. I know that Anna and Anton left
Hamburg 21 August 1881, on the ship "Allemania" and arrived at
the port of New York 9 September 1881. US census records
indicate that Andrew also immigrated to America in 1881, but
apparently not on the same ship. They settled in Western New
York, buying a farm (vineyard) at Angola, New York. Anna's ship
records say they came from a town that seems to read Tarpel or
Tarssel. The record is not easy to read. I am also looking for
information for Karol SIMINSKI and Franciszka Carolina BREGULLA,
who may have been related to Andrew. Any information would be
greatly appreciated.

I am seeking information on Frederick William THIEDE, THEIDE,
THEDE, born 8 March 1836 in West Prussia. He married Henrietta
KERSTEN 27 December 1864. Their son Robert William THIEDE, was
born 15 December 1866 in West Prussia. A second son was also
born there, Johannes Gotlieb THIEDE, born 26 March 1869. They
left West Prussia 30 March 1869 to immigrate to the United
States. Johannes is my great-grandfather. A brother Herman
Julius THIEDE born 2 December 1845, also came with them to
the United States. They came to southern Minnesota, and
Frederick William THIEDE settled in Stearns county at the town
of Kimball. Herman THIEDE settled at Shakopee, Minnesota. I was

I am looking information with regards to my grandfather, Carl
Gottlieb WELLNITZ, born October 1848 at Flatow, West Prussia, now
Zlotow Poland. Carl's parents were John and Willemina WELLNITZ.
He was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran faith. He
immigrated to the United States, leaving from Bremen and arriving
at Baltimore 24 June 1872 on the ship "SS Ohio". He was
accompanied by his half brother Friedrich or Frederick. He
settled in Chicago first, then I understand he was involved
in Black Hills gold rush around 1876, homesteaded in western
Nebraska 1881, and married Johanna Louise Hennriethe ROSENNFELDT
1884. There was a move shortly after this to northeastern South
Dakota near Milbank where Carl farmed. Johanna died in 1895, and
Carl married Augusti Regiene HEMPEL in 1896. There were five
children from the first marriage and twelve from the second
marriage.
