I am seeking information on my great-grandfather Carl Auguste (Charles Augustus) TROMPF who was born at Bladian near Koenigsberg in 1831. He migrated to Australia, via San Francisco, in 1851.

I am looking for information about either the JENTZKOWSKI family or the LUTZE family. Frederick Wilhelm JENTZKOWSKI (born about 1861) and his wife Louise (Luisa) born about 1863 who emigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1890. The census entry for 1920 indicates that they were both from Germany, however, my grandfather was said to have been from Prussia. At the time of my grandmother's birth, the family was affiliated with the Salem Lutheran Church on Chene Street in Detroit, Michigan. My grandmother was baptized in that church with a Frederick DEITER and Lousie's sister, Bertha LUTZE as sponsors. Bertha LUTZE was later married to a Gottlieb PLITT. Both my great-grandparents spoke what I believe is called High German. The family may have been called VON JENTZKOWSKI as late as middle 1800's. I have found some records of VON JENTZKOWSKI at Gollub Stadt, Westpreussen with the father having same name as my great-grandfather, but no record of great-grandfather's christening. There are also several other of the JENZKOWSKI family (slightly different spelling) mentioned at Culmsee, Westpreussen. I am at a standstill at this point. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I have begun research on my mother's family name MINCK. Great granfather Max Ferdinand MINCK (born 1854) left Dirschau, West Prussia in the 1870s. He was the son of Franz Ludwig MINCK (born 1819) who came from Marienburg (now Malbork, Poland). Franz's parents were Johann Heinrich MINCK (born 1775) and Anne Caroline GRZAN (born 1787 at Danzig). Can you go back any further and where did the name MINCK originate?

DAY, Christina

I am looking for any information on the surname NASSADOWSKI. My great-great-grandfather was Wolf NASSADOWSKI born 1836 at Marienwerder, Prussia. He was married to Francisca GRUNBERG born 1847 at Pomrei (?), Prussia. I am also interested in my other gg-grandfather Clemens (Der Hoffman ?) LIMPERG born 1846 at Neuhof bei Pelphin, Prussia and died in 1923 at Zoppot. His wife was Katharina PACHULOWSKI, born 1855 at Rakowicz, Prussia. Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

DISHER (DYSZER), Scott B. eMail address: PAMELAFD@aol.com

I am searching for my Great Grandfathers place of origin and verification of the original spelling of my his last name. Family history indicates he was Prussian and came from Pocljec, County of Dathause (Karthause). He and his family emigrated through Danzig on his way to Plover, Wisconsin in 1880-1881. He was born 30 April 1846 and joined the 6th Pomeranian Artillery Company on 1 November 1867. Jacob Phillip DYSZER died at Plover 10 December 1931. I do not know if the town and county spellings are correct or where the might be located. Any information would be appreciated.

I am searching on how I may get further information on my ancestors with the surnames of BAHR and MARTEN / MARTIN who emigrated to the USA about 1888 from "Zueger by Schloppe", West Prussia. I know where Schloppe is now located. What does Zueger mean? Nearby village? Henriette Caroline MARTEN BAHR, widow of August BAHR emigrated to the USA and eventually went to Wisconsin with August's brother, Wilhelm BAHR about 1888. Henriette had three daughters, Emma who stayed in Indiana, Lizzie who stayed in Ohio and Minna BAHR emmigrated to the United States with her. The BAHRS were Lutheran. Any Lutheran parishes near or in Schloppe? How do I find death record of August BAHR? (I don't know when he died). How do I obtain Henriette Caroline MARTEN BAHR's birth record? Or Henriette and August BAHR's marriage record? Is there a way to obtain land records or census records for that area? Are there emigration records? What town would they emigrate from and most likely to where in the USA? Minna BAHR was my grandmother and was born 25 February 1874 at Schloppe. I do not know the birth or death dates of her parents, August and Henriette Caroline MARTEN BAHR. Thank you.

Carl Fredrich Wilhelm PLAUTZ was born at Preutzen Wold, Schlochau, West Preussen, 24 January 1871. His parents were Carl PLAUTZ and Caroline FALK. Adeline Wilhelmine Mathilda WINTER was born at Krumenflees, Schlochau, West Preussen 30 January 1870. Her parents were August WINTER born 1840 and Anna GALNECK born 1838. I would like to know in what archive information about these people could be found. Would it be in Germany or Poland? I know that Adeline emigrated to the US about 1882 and Carl emigrated in 1885. They settled at Marathon County, Wisconsin. Their parents all emigrated also. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The baptism of my great-grandmother, Auguste Ottilie HERZBERG / HERTZBERG is recorded by LDS microfilm of records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Briesen Kulm, West Prussia occurring 19 January 1867. Her parents are Gottfried HERTZBERG and Marie FELSKE who are found in the records of Rehden Graudenz, West Prussia. The marriage record of Auguste is on file in Sterling, Arenac County, Michigan lists her birthplace as "Lawarze" or similar, but I have been unable to determine if such a place might have been near Briesen. Other related family names from Briesen include MARKS, PLIETH, and TREICHEL, many emigrating to Sterling Michigan in the 1880's. I would welcome hearing from anyone researching these families to share strategy.

I am searching for the birth mother of my brother-in law born Heinz Gunter KNOPPKE at Danzig-Langfuhr on 26 August, 1936. The mother was dressmaker Erna KNOPPKE resided at Danzig- Hundegass 72. The birth register number is 1405 on 1 September 1936. Baptism was 6 September 1936 at the Evangelical Parish of the Christus Church. Father is believed to be singer Gerhard SCHILLER. Heinz Gunter was adopted by Mrs. Elisabeth NITZSCHE of Dorchester, Massachusetts on 12 July 1938 in Danzig and sailed for New York on 29 July, 1938. At the time of adoption, Erna KNOPPKE's address was Danzig, Weidengasse 4. Heinz Gunter KNOPPKE's name was officially change to William Karl NITZSCHE on 5 June, 1939. Any input will be appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: Purchase a copy of Vol. 6 the FEEFHS Quarterly Journal (1998) and read the 3 senimal articles on the EWZ collection of millions of Germans who emigrated back to germany during 1939-1945. If she is alive, those records will be the clue you need.

I am researching my husband's family who came from Torun. His great grandparents were Josefine SCHMIDT and George DOMINICK. They had a daughter, Mary Josefine (born 28 March 1874) and a son, Joseph. They emigrated to New Jersey after Mary Josephine was born and lived at Newark. They attended the German United Evangelist Church, but when Mary died she was buried from the Catholic Church. I would like to know if they left family in Torun and who their parents were.

MARTIN, John E.
eMail address: jmart@erinet.com

My Grandmother, Pauline Bertha WIESE, and her siblings; Amelia, Maiheal, Gottlieb Reinhart and Paul Martin WIESE were brought to the US by their uncle and aunt, Gustave ZADOW and Mathilda (geborn NEWMAN), after the WIESE children's parents, Maiheal WIESE and Henrietta (geborn ZADOW), died on the same day from a cholera epidemic in the early 1870s.

The WIESE family I am researching lived in or near Seegenfelde, Kreis Deutsch Krone, West Prussia in the mid 1800s and emigrated to the United States in 1881. The Lutheran Church records and the civil records were located at Lebehnke, Kreis Deutsch Krone. The LDS evidently did not micro-film the Lebehnke records so I am at a loss as to how to locate them. It may be that the records were destroyed during WWII, but since that was much later, it is possible that these records could have been re-located. I would certainly appreciate any help in locating the "records".

Also, the spelling of the name Maiheal is interesting, and I wonder if anyone might be able to shed some light on that.

I am researching the John and Mary BYZEWSKI family. I am not certain of their exact residence, but their first son, John, was born 2 October 1842 at Karwen (Karwia), district of Neustadt (Nowe Miasto), West Prussia, in the government jurisdiction of Danzig (Gdansk). He became a Franciscan priest and in 1875 was sent to be a parish priest at Winona, Minnesota, USA. He helped two of his brothers and their families emigrate to America. August and Anton BYZEWSKI came to America in 1878. I am trying to find out if John and Mary BYZEWSKI had more children and if they remained in Poland or came to America.

MUELLER, Cindy
Illinois
eMail address: CindyM1071@aol.com

I am searching for information about my grandfather, Robert B. MUELLER, born 5 August 1905 in West Prussia. I do not know the exact name of the village where he came from. It sounds like Auf Proisen. While searching through an atlas for Germany, I came across the word Oftpreuben and thought that this might be a name of a village and possibly the one where my grandfather came from. He left Germany about 1924 and emigrated to Canada and is thought to have stayed at Toronto. Then in about 1925-1926, he came to the United States. I know he joined the Calvary and was one of Roosevelt's Rough Riders and he later settled in Chicago, Illinois. He married Margaret A. BECKER at Chicago 21 December 1935. They had 5 children. My father was named Paul MUELLER after one of my grandfather's brothers. I'm trying to find out the village my grandfather came from and I'm looking for names of his parents and siblings. Anyone with information... please contact me if you have some advice. Thank you.

NOETZEL, John A.
eMail address: salemnh88@comcast.net

I am looking for information on my father Hans NOTZEL / NOETZEL (NÖTZEL?), later changed to John NOETZEL. He was born at Danzig and left there in 1926 or maybe 1925 to work at the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial of 1926. He later became a U.S. citizen. I would like to know exactly when he left Danzig and Europe, by what vessel and to what port in the U.S. I would also like to trace his family history. I do know his parents were Paul Johann NOTZEL / NOETZEL, born 13 August 1867 and Selma Martha MASUCH, born 15 April 1866. They were married on 3 November 1897 and the family church in Danzig is believed to have been St. Katharinen.

PACHECK, Gary

I am looking for any information on my great grandfather Adalbert PLACZEK / PACIEK, or my great grandmother mary WESTPHALL, his wife. They emigrated from Danzig to Galveston Texas in 1881. They had one son Stanislaus (Vincent) who was born in 1879. They were Catholic. I have 2 records where the last name was spelled PLACZEK or PACIEK even though today it is spelled differently. They eventually moved to Berea Ohio in the mid 1880's. My grandfather Leon was born at Berea Ohio in 1893 and then moved to Syracuse New York. Any help would be appreciated.

PODORSKI, Paul J.
eMail address: podorski@home.com

I'm looking for information on the PODORSKI family. My grandfather-in-law, Frank Xavier PODORSKI was born in Krieslebauf, West Prussia, October 18, 1892. He emigrated to America at 10 months of age. Any information on the Podorski name will be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

SCHWARM, William

(Lutheran)

I am hoping for any information on my great-great-grandfather or his mother. Johann SCHWARM was born at Graudenz, Marienwerder, West Preussen about 1810 to a woman who herself had been born a SCHWARM. This woman is said to have later, married a worker named SCHMIDTKE and later yet a worker named RUPKOWSKI. Johann was a Lutheran, and died in Klotzen near Gross Tromnau 13 March 1897. This information came from his death certificate which was given orally to the authorities, as his second wife was illiterate. They read it back to her and she agreed to the content and affixed her mark. He married Karoline KONRAD in 1840, and Wilhamine WEBER about 1857. (she may be his goddaughter) He fathered 12 children in the Jakobkau / Bogdanken / Slupp area.

I would appreciate any information or ancestry on GEORGE HENNIG, born 1827 at Langenwalde West Preussen or his wife ANNA WICKERT, bor 1831 at Langenwalde WEst preussen. They had a child at Woynitt in 1859. George died at Langenwalde on 20 February 1871, and Anna on 5 May 1869 in Langenwalde.

I would appreciate any information or ancestry on KAROLINE KONRAD (CONRAD), born about 1808 at Jakobkau, Gross Leistenau West Prussia. She married Johann SCHWARM about 1835. She died in Jakobkau in 1857,leaving her husband with four small children.

I would appreciate any information or ancestry on Wilhamine WEBER who was b:about 1835 in Jakobkau Gr.Leistenau WPRU.She married Johann SCHWARM in 1857 at Jakobkau also. (he may have been her godfather). They had several children in the area.

STROTH, J. Michael
eMail address: multicom@zoomnet.net

I am researching Jacob FAK and any relatives. He was born in 1788 at Szczytno, Poland; formerly Ortelsburg, West Prussia. he married Maryanna MALON, born 1790. Are any family members still living there? Does anyone have infomation about this town and its history?
Webmaster's Note: It is unlikely that any ethnic Germans are sill living in Poland after WW II. Those trhat might have been there in 1939 would have emigrated back to Germany - see the EWZ record collection on this website. There are 5 Ortelsburg topics with FHL microfilm available for viewing thru/at your nearest LDS Family History Center (FHC): Baptist church history/emigration, church records (2), occupations and land and property records (3) and tax records.
