Will You Help Create a
New Genealogy Society
Where None Now Exists
in America or Canada?
Latest Update: 16 June 1997
We need your help to create the following eleven new and independent genealogy
societies:
Independence Each of these societies will be independent of FEEFHS -- we
always have time to help create and publicize a new society, but we have no time nor any
interest in trying to operate or control anyu of them. They are conceived to be and intended
to serve North American record searchers as well as others from other countries seeking to
search for their ancestors with the assistance of a society and to support the active use of
North American resources as a first step in the solution of family historyy problems.
Languages:English is the primary language used, although bi-lingual messages
are not excluded and actually encouraged.
Multi-national Character Sets: Currently the web is limited to the Latin-1 ISO
Character Set for most browsers. While this is sufficient for German and some Slavic
charaters, it is not for some Polish characters and some other characters in Czech, Slovak
and other Slavic languages. When a standard character set for the given country or region
(examples: Slavic / Polish, Cyrillic / Russian / Ukrainian) is established and is readily
supported by the major browsers, it will be used at some point in the future in oder to post
some messages with full diacritical marks or non-Roman characters in the language of the
country too.
These new societies will be completely independent of FEEFHS -- Please send
either:
- and eMail message to feefhs@feefhs.org or
- An SASE to FEEFHS, P. O. Box 4327, Davis CA 95617-4327 to be registered in each
new genealogy society database of interest.
New Research ListsThe idea is to start a
separate web - based Research (query) List on this Web Site for each ethnic and national
group listed above For example, an Estonian Research List (EERL) would get ists acronym
from the the two letter "country code" of the country. This will help aggregate persons with
a common interest and encourage the interchange of genealogy queries, information, support
and assistance and get to know each other online prior to the actual creation of a genealogy
society.
Coordinators for New Research
Lists: A
effort is now underway to find a persons (with eMail and web access) to help with each of
these new research lists. These individuals will agree to serve as an eMail gateway to post
queries for others interested in each of these new societies. See the Research List CROSS-INDEX for more
information on this FEEFHS initiative. Please contact us if you are interested.
