Latest Update: 16 February 1998

eMail message from Dana Kutz, President

Dear SFBA-JGS member:

Below is a schedule of upcoming JGS meetings.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1998
Congregation Kol Emeth
Palo Alto, CA
7:30 p.m.

Topic: Contemporary Russian Jewish Immigration
Speaker Michael Rodkin

Michael Rodkin was born and raised in Moscow. After years of work as an engineer in Moscow, Michael decided he could no longer stay in Russia due to the political, social and economic upheavals. He immigrated to Israel in 1991, then to the Bay Area in 1996. Come and hear his fascinating story.

We will be joined by at least one other Russian Jewish immigrant, who will offer his own perspective and experiences researching his genealogy.

SUNDAY MARCH 22, 1998 [Note date change]
Building C, Room 230 [Note room change]
Fort Mason Center
San Francisco
Doors open 12:30, Program begins 1:00

Topic: The Holocaust Center of Northern California
Speaker: Paul Hamburg, Director

This important, local facility is a valuable genealogical resource for more than just Holocaust research. For example, Yizkor books can tell us much about life in the towns our families left behind. Come learn about the holdings in the HCNC collection.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY MARCH 27 & 28, 1998

The California Genealogical Society's Annual Family History Fair will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28. As usual, the SFBA JGS will host a booth at the Fair and we're looking for volunteers to help staff the event. If you're interested, please send me an e-mail or give me a call. Thanks!

MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1998
Congregation Kol Emeth
Palo Alto, CA
7:30 p.m.

Topic: The San Jose Family History Center
Speaker: Conrad Tracy

The LDS Family History Centers offer a unique opportunity to research records from around the world, with some microfilm records dating from the 18th century. Mr. Tracy will provide insight into the holdings of the FHC and how to best use them. Don't miss this valuable program!

SUNDAY MAY 17, 1998
Building C, Room 205
Fort Mason Center
San Francisco
Doors open 12:30, Program begins 1:00

Rabbi Lew will share with us his experiences when researching his own family history.
