I am trying to locate information on Charles Frederick
GUENDERITZ. He was born 1809 in Mecklenburg Schwerin. He
married Lena (last name unknown). They had three sons, William,
John Frederick and Charles (Karl).
Webmaster's Note: It might help if you gave the religion of
your ancestors and their death dates and places. Your surname is
not listed in the Surname Serach section of the FHL Catalog, but
it might be found in Die
Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen Volkes.

I am also researching Wilhelm Ludwick Ernst Fredrich ROPCKE /
ROEPCKE, born 10 September 1855 at Dargun, Mecklenberg and his
wife Mary, no details known. They had 3 children: Frederick
William Max , born 17 February 1878; Minna born 1880; and Lilly,
born 27 November 1887. Apparently they left from Hamburg to
Port Adelaide, Australia in 1883 but went back to Germany almost
straight away. Fred then immigrated to Australia by himself. I
would like to fill in the gaps on the family such as Mary's
details and especially when they went back to Germany and Fred
came out again. I have done as much research as I can in
Adelaide from shipping lists available here. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

I am seeking the place of origin of my gt. grandfather, Christian
(aka Christopher, Chris) HASSENFELDT,
who was born 25 May 1828 in Mecklenberg, Prussia. He emigrated
to America with his brother, John, whose
descendants have spelled the surname as HASSELFELDT. John's
wife, Annie MICHEAL or MICHAEL or
MITCHEL, was also born in a Germanic state and may well have been
married to him before they came to
America. Christian's wife, Augusta WOSCHE (or WOSCHA) was also
born in Prussia 2 January 1836 and
emigrated to the US about 1854 with a younger sister who
apparently died at sea. I have been unable to find
these people in the US census records (yet) but they are all
listed in the 1861 and 1871 censuses of Ontario,
Canada. There is a potential lead in the Hamburg direct list
but, given the fact that the surname is somewhat
uncommon even in Germany, it would seem likely that a birthplace
would be able to be discovered. There is a
Gerda HASSELFELDT listed on the internet as a member of the
Bundestag, but I have been unable to access an
eMail address from Canada and, it is her married surname. Any
help or suggestions would be most
appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: It is suggested you contact the Immigrant
Genealogy Society (IGS) in Burbank
California and for a few dollars have them run your name through
the Mecklenburg census Indexes.
From that you might get an idea of the
location where that
family lived. If that is not productive, it is suggested you
then have them search the German CR-ROM
telephone and postal address directory of Mecklenberg for some
living persons bearing that surname and contact
them.

I am looking for my German ancestors. I can track the name
KIRCHNER (great, great grandparents) back to a John Kirchner who
married Louise DUMPERT probably prior to 1860. They had a
daughter, Mary Kirchner, who died in 1958 (she married Bernard
TYSON, born 1860, died 1932). Great grandmother Kirchner spoke
only German, except when speaking to small children. The fact
that the family was from Mecklenburg has been passed only by word
of mouth. When we were in Germany, many people asked if I was
from Mecklenburg or if we were visiting relatives there because
my blonde hair was a shade usually seen only in that area. Most
of the American family members are buried in the Moravian
Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y. Where do I start?
Webmaster's Note: You might start with citation #8 of the 22
Kirchner listings in the surname section of the FHL Catalog. The
summay indicates a Ernest Kirchner was married and had children
between 1835 and 1851 in Saxony and Mecklenberg-Schwerin. There
are no Dumpert listings in the FHLC but 62 Tyson listings exist.
Your should also check Kirchner and Dumpert for all Mecklenberg
location listings in Die
Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen Volkes.

I am trying to find information on my great-great-grandfather,
Henry SUHR, who was born 14 August 1827, in Schwerien,
Mecklenberg, Germany, according to information that I have. He
died 11 January 1900 in Mills county, Iowa. His wife was Sophia
MALONE / MELAHN (not sure of the spelling) and she was born 1
April 1830 in Prussia and died 22 April 1904 at Wayne, Nebraska.
They immigrated to the United States about 1850 (they went to
Iowa county, Wisconsin for a short time -- perhaps first went to
Milwaukee, Wisconsin). Their children were born in Wisconsin and
the state of Iowa. Henry was in the Civil War (Private, 6th
Wisconsin Infantry, Company K). Their children were: Henry
Albert SUHR, Robert B. SUHR, George Washington SUHR, Louise
Anna SUHR, Emma SUHR, Edward SUHR, Alexander SUHR, and Anthon
SUHR. I would like to find out who Henry SUHR's parents and
siblings were.
MOVIUS, John
(Lutheran)
I am seeking more information about Baron David MEVIUS \ MOVIUS
and other members of his line during his time living in
Mecklenberg. He was born 6 December 1609 at Griefswald, Pommern;
died 14 August 1670 at Griefswald and is buried at Wismar,
Mecklenberg. He was educated at Griefswald University as well as
Leiden University (Holland) and in France and England. From 1629
until about 1634 he lived at Rostock on the Marnow in
Mecklenberg. He was the third generation of his family to serve
as law school dean at Griefswald Universität, the second
oldest University in northern Europe.
He became ambassador to Sweden in 1641. He was advisor to Queen
Christina of Sweden during negotiations leading to the treaty of
Westphalia at Osnabruck that ended the 30 years war (1618-1648).
Until his death he ruled Sweden's continental European lands in
western Pommern and Mecklenberg from Wismar as Deputy Chief
Justice of the Swedish supreme tribunal and was vice-president of
Wismar. Any information on this family or the MOVIUS, MOEBIUS,
MOEBUS, MEVIUS, MOVIA, MEVIA and related surnames in your
ancestry will be appreciated and additional information
shared.
Note: Since posting this entry, I have visited the library
of the Immigrant Genealogy Society (IGS) in
Burbank California and discovered records of many of my ancestors
in the Mecklenburg census Indexes.
They will search them for you for a reasonable fee if you
cannot get to the IGS library.

I am seeking information on John HANSEN born 10 November 1816.
All information articles either say
Mecklenburg, Germany or Prussia on them. John HANSEN married
Sophia EHLERS circa 1845. Sophia
EHLERS was born 21 September 1825. Children born to them were
Martha Hansen, born circa 1846; Henry Hansen, born circa 1848, my
g-grandfather, Augustas Lewis HANSEN, born 07 August 1850 and
Fred Hansen, born circa 1852 . They came to the U.S.A. in 1853
via the port of New York. They settled in Calumet township, Fond
du Lac county, Wisconsin. John HANSEN was a shoemaker by trade.
Martha HANSEN, died in Germany. They were members of the
Lutheran faith. Any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for information about my great-grandfather, WILHELM
JAHNKE, who was born in 1826 in Mecklenburg and his sister,
Wilhelmina (Minnie) JAHNKE, born in the same place in 1825. They
said they were orphans and had lived in an orphanage. They
immigrated to Kankakee, County, Illinois, not at the same
time, but sometime before 1855. Thank you.

I am searching for more information on the ancestors of Christoph
Sam Peter RUST, born 1765 at Priegnitz, Mecklenburg and died 20
December 1836 at Tarutino, Bessarabia, Ukraine. His known child
is Christoph RUST (born 1800, died after 1854), who married
Caroline HILLER. He later Anna ROSINA (born 10 June 1808 in
Poland, died 20 December 1852 at Taruntino). Still later he
married Susanna SCHMALZ, 13 March 1853 at Taruntino. She was
born 1810 and died 15 February 1882 at Taruntino. Other
probable children are: Anna Christina RUST, born 1796 in Poland,
died 7 November 1834 at Tarutino, Bassarabia. She married
Christian BOETTCHER, born 1804 in Poland; Wilhelm RUST (born 1805
in Poland, died 13 April 1874 at Paris, Bassarabia); Ferdinand
RUST, born 1820 ?; and Ludvig RUST, born 1830 at Tarutino,
Bassarabia. Also, where was Priegnitz located in Mecklenburg. I
cannot find on any of the old maps. Thank You.

I am looking for information on Wilhelm Henry SPLITTER Sr., born
1805, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany,
died 1892 at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was married circa 1830 in
Germany to Sophia HEINKE, born 1809 at
Hagenow, Germany, died circa 1880. Husband and wife are buried
at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Their family
including 3 girls and a son, Wilhelm Henry, Jr. arrived at the
port of New York in June 1847. They settled at
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, bought 80 acres of land at West Bend (now)
Wisconsin. Wilhelm Sr. bought 80 acres
in Houston county Minnesota in 1855. He also bought 6 lots at
LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1867.
His son, Wilhelm Jr. was born at Damm, near Parchim, Mecklenburg,
Germany and married in 1862 to Anna
Mary SENN, probably in Wisconsin. She died in 1862. Jr. then
married in 1864 to Mary WITTENBURG in
Minnesota. They moved to Lorraine, Kansas in 1878. Wilhelm, Jr.
had 2 brothers who both stayed in
Germany -- no marriages or heirs known. In reference to the
surname SPLITTER, as noted in DPL (Die
Pommerschen leute) there are 2 spellings close to this surname:
SPLETTER and SPLATTER. I have NO
information as to whether SPLITTER was ever changed to either of
the 2 aforementioned.
Webmaster's Note: As you are aware, there are two locations
named Hagenow - one is in Pommern
(Pomerania). The Hagenow in Mecklenburg-Schwerin has a
churchbook on FHL microfilm (1689-1927: 5
reels). Have you checked them or the first of two Splitter
citations in the surname search section of the FHL
catalog?

I am looking for information of the KOBI families that immigrated
to the United States around 1883, possibly from Mechlenburg
Germany. Members of the two families included Henry Frederick
Fritz' KOBI and his wife Mary plus John KOBI and his wife, name
unknown. Both families settled in northeastern Indiana, DeKalb
County and worked for the B & O (B&O) Railroad. A review of
other residents in they area shows that they came from the
Mechlenburg area. Any help would be helpful. Thank you.

I am researching the family of Johann & Marie TACK, who according
to the Hamburg Passenger Lists, came from Neu Lehsten,
Mecklenberg in 1866. We located a small town called Lehsten,
west of Neubrandenburg, but it was on a different map than FEEFHS
has. The FEEFHS map has a town in approximately the same
location, by the name of Deven. Are these all three the same
place?? Does anyone have further clarification on this matter?
We checked on which parish jurisdiction that Lehsten would fall
under and found that the town of Gross Varchow supposedly is the
parish. Upon checking those records for the TACK family, we
found nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want to search the emigration index for 1840 to 1850 for Johann
WIEGMANN. Johann was born about 1822-23 and his son was
Evangelical Lutheran. His wife Maria SCHULTZ was born 15
December 1823 in Mechlenburg. I don't know when (1840 - 1851?)
or where they were married. His son Heinrich WIEGMANN was born
December 1851 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. John WIEGMANN my
GGrossvater who arrived in New York in August 1850 per his 1852
Milwaukee signed immigration intent paper. Germans to America,
passenger lists and the Hamburg exit Schiffes records have been
little help. I see a Johann Wiegmann in the Hamburg police
register (laborers) index about 1846. Maybe that will help. The
1819 Mechlenburg Census Index is available on LDS Microfiche.
How can I best use that Index to find their baptisms and marriage
record?
How can I try to find the baptism record of Johann WIEGMANN or
Maria SCHULTZ in Mechlenburg? What is a good strategy for
sources to search? I would like to develop an eMail contact in
Schwerin to look in that index at the Staat Archives. I will be
glad to reciprocate by doing USA searches or other. I could also
write the Staat Archives directly. I wonder how much $US to mail
them or how much search time for their archivest? effort to look
up.? Guten Abend.

Fredrick SCHMIDT, born 1836, married Johanne SCHMIDT / SCHMIDT,
born 1837. Both were from Mecklenberg-Schwerin. Their daughter
was Augusta ZWINGMAN who had a son. They emigrated to America in
1891 from Mecklenberg with a family of five girls and one boy and
one grandson (Augusta's son). One child, Frederick, stayed in
Germany. I would like to know Augusta's husband's name and his
family background.
