Recent FHL Microfilm accessions

***DRAFT***
1. Zidovská obec (Slovak Jewish Community Congregations)
-- Recent FHL Microfilm Accessions --

During the cataloging process for the ongoing Slovak microfilm project, it was discovered that some reels include Jewish records for 48 principal towns (and in some cases many surrounding towns) Slovakia. Many of them represent records dating back into the early to mis 1800's when they were under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Scattered records for the inter war (1920's and 1930's) and even up to the 1950's in one or two cases.

This is just the start of a summary finding aid, based on our understanding of the extent of these holdings. All of the 33 listings we have posted in draft form here can be found in the current February 1996 issue of the FHLC (LDS Family History Library Catalog). The second section of this page is in a construction hold status until film numbers are obtained for the final 17 towns.

Nota Bene: Any record searcher seriously interested in any of these records is well advised to go to their nearest FHC (LDS Family History Center) and check the full details available there of the records that exist on film for towns of interst. The full citation is available at any FHC (Family History Center) in the FHLC (Family History Library Library Catalog - on CD-ROM). It should be carefully checked before ordering out any film on loan from Salt Lake City.

Kotesova (Velka Bytca)
Kysucke Nove Mesto (Kysucke Nove Mesto)
Luky (Puchov)
Martin (Martin)
Namestovo (Namestovo)
Pruske (Puchov)

At the moment, the film numbers for these microfilm records can only be accessed from computers located within the FHL in Salt Lake City. FEEFHS hopes to be able to post the microfilm numbers for each of them in the near future, so that record searchers can order them on loan for viewing thru any local FHC (Family History Center).
