Suggestions for
effective Poland Research
List
Messages:
- PL is the two letter Internet "Country Code" for Poland.
- Thus the PLRL = Poland Research List - for ethnic Poles and
those researchers with
ethnic
Poles as ancestors.
- Please include (or add) the religion of the ancestor, if
known (Most Poles were
Catholic or
Jewish, only a few were Lutheran).
- Include the former region they came from, if known.
- Please advise A. Gathright if or when your eMail address (or
postal address if posted
here)
changes.
- Please encourage other Poland record searchers you encounter
to post here
too.

KONYS, Paul R.
Cleveland, Ohio, USA
e-Mail address: PKonys@ix.netcom.com
My family name is KONYS. It has never been shortened from any
records that we have
known. My father visited Poznan in the 80's and saw some old
tombstones with the original
family name. The family originally settled in Schenectaty, New
York. My grandfather,
Joseph KONYS moved to Cleveland around 1900. Any information on
the family anyone
could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I wish to add my great-grandparents names to this list. They
were Boleslaus and Theophilia
(Benjamin and Stell) REISS from Warsaw Poland, who immigrated to
this country around
1905 to 1908. I have no other information other than they left
Warsaw, Poland and came to
Brooklyn, New York. Where else could I search for Polish
genealogy as I am really at a
dead end. Thank You.
KOWALSKI, Leo E.
eMail address: cirk@juno.com
(Roman Catholic)
I am searching any descendants of Josef KOWALSKI born about 1783
at Bobrowniki-na-Visla, (near Torun). Also descendants of Josef
KOWALSKI his great grandson who lived at Philadelphia in 1899. I
am also interested in contacting anyone researching BARANOWICZ,
also from Bobrowniki and believed to have originated in what is
now Belarus.
Webmaster's Note: There are 14 Bobrowniki locations in the
current Polen Euro-Atlas, but none seem to be near Torun, which
as you know is on the Wisla river. There are also 3 in the FHL
Catalog - with the same problem. I suggest you join a Polish
genealogy society near you (or the PGS of California). Then seek
help from their experts on the correct powiat for your location
of interest. This seems to be a pre-requisite to your finding
such records as may exist.

Maternal grandmother, Antoinette SAGANIEWICZ, born 1890 Stara
Sol, Galici, now Stary Sol, Ukraine. Sisters Elizabeth and
Emilia. Parents are Frank SAGANIEWICZ and Caroline SWIDNICKI.
Sisters came to USA early 1900's to Buffalo, New York and
Cleveland, Ohio. Cousin Mary SWIDNICKI ( ROLL ) came through
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and settled in Buffalo, New York.
Looking for other information on these lines. I am waiting on
microfilm from LDS that covers the time period of 20 years before
grandmothers and siblings birth.
LACH, Thomas
eMail address: robin1@erols.com
(Roman Catholic)
I am looking for any information on my grandfather Thomas LACH or
any others with the LACH surname that came from Galicase,
Austriae - Rofioeyie(?) district. I am not sure about the
spelling of the district in Austria, the spelling came from my
grandfathers baptismal certificate and was very ornate. My
grandfather LACH was baptized in the Roman Catholic faith on 10
November 1885. His father's name is spelled Joanne(d)(a) LACH
and his mother's name was Anna. I would guess that he imigrated
to the United States in the early 1900s. He lived in Detorit,
Michigan and he and his wife Catherine who immigrated to America
from Poland, via Ellis Island, had two children. If anyone has
any information on Thomas LACH or any LACH from Galicia, Austria,
please contact me. Thank you
Webmaster's Note: Did your ancestors really speak Polish
(i.e. were they ethnic Poles)? If so, you submitted to the
correct Research List. You have a surname that appears in both
Germanic and Polish lists here; there are Lach citations for
Pomerania and Banat listed on this website. All the Polish
citations of Lach on this website have Polish given names. We
have a Galizien German Descendant organization and also a Galicia
Research List on this website. You might check them out.
Galicia was an Austrian Crownland prior to WW I with both
Germanic and Polish residents. Are you comfortable looking for
your ancestors on the Polish Research List? Only you will
know.......

and can find no family for him, nor any information on his

MIKULSKI. My grandparents
were originally from Malwa Koshinka, Poland (now Lithuania - near
Vilnius to the best of

My Belarusian aunt tells me that from 1943 - 1945 she worked in a
camp called "Kaiserhaffen" or "Kaiserhagen" - as a "Ost" slave
worker. She says her camp was near Danzig: "... close to the
Vistula ... where the ships used to turn round". My aunt says
Russian POWs were interned in "Kaiserhaffen" and other camps
close by. Has anyone heard of such a camp? Can anyone advise
me on other camps in the vicinity of Danzig and the Vistula?

Franciszek BARCZYKOWSKI married Bronislawa SROCZYNSKA on 11
February 1903 in
Lichen. Both were from Anielew, Poland. They arrived in
Massachusetts not long after
that. I have a copy of a page from census (3 May 1910).
Grandmother left Franciszek in
1925 and came to Chicago with her two sons (my father and my
uncle). Stayed until 1940
when she left to go back to Poland.
I went to Poland and talked with relatives who took care of her
until she died and they said
that she never saw Franciszek again from 1925 until her death.
Searching through city
directories of Lowell Mass where they lived, the last indication
of him is 1925. I have
searched high and low for him or his grave to no avail. I have
been to Lowell (father moved
back there) and saw the place they lived (now a gas station).
I have been to Poland twice and have walked in the same house
that my grandmother was
born and married in. It is a 200 year old thatched roof farm
house and still looks the same
and is still in the family. I have been to her grave and to my
g-grandmothers grave and
talked to relatives. Information on the "BARCZYKOWSKI", WROBEL,
or WOJIECHOWSKA surnames would be appreciated.

I am searching for connections to my family. My maternal
grandparents names are
Kazimierrz WEGRZYNOWSKI (born 1896 died 1962) his wife is Helena
Patricia
RYCHLICKI (born 1897, died 1959). Kazimierz parents Szymon and
Mairian CWIAKALA
Wegrzynowski. They were from Bosev or Bosef. It was a Jewish
city that was eradicated
(ed: in WWII). My paternal grandparents are Walter John
GORZKOWSKI (born 12 May
1890, died 13 May 1938) and Mary Barbara NABAZONY GORZKOWSKI born
30 March
1893, died 11 June 1974).
Walter was from the Warsaw area. From the "hills" ?? Mary
Barbara was from the Kracow
area. She had a brother Louis who was an infant when she left
Poland. (I think his name
was Debish--she pronounced it deb aash.) who was in the Polish
army she had contact with
him as late as the 1970's. He had a daughter named Jean I think.
I know Walter had a
sister and nieces in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. I hope someone
can help or direct me.
They were as far as I know all Roman Catholic except Kazimierez
who was Polish National
Catholic.
PETERSON, Joseph

My grandfather, Joseph James WESOLOWSKI, was born 1913 in CT, USA
to Alex
WESOLOWSKY and Katherine KALECHEVESKY (sp?), who I think were
both born in the
Lomzha
(ed. Lomza), Poland area (one of them came from the village of
Dobry Las). Alex was born
June 6,
1887. I believe they were all Catholic. In 1914 or 1915, mother
Katherine returned to
Poland with
baby Joseph. I don't know why. WWI prevented their return.
Katherine ended up dying,
maybe of
flu, about 1918, leaving Joseph orphaned and trapped in Poland.
Eventually his relatives
were able to
send him back to his father in the USA around 1924. Grandpa
Joseph remembers Russian
soldiers
using his family's farm animals as target practice. I hope
someone out there has some
information
related to Alex and Katherine and what happened to Katherine.
Maybe this information will
also be
of use to someone else.

There was a cousin Wanda Gordon in Chicago, now deceased.
PIOTTER, Cindy

I am looking for any information on parents or siblings of Ludwig
Wilhelm PIOTTER born
on 2 July 1824 in Ciemno, Pomerania; he married Juliane Marie
Florentine ZILSKE on 28
April 1854 in Charbrow, Pomerania and he died on 16 March 1891 in
Poblotz, Pomerania.
His wife emigrated to America in 1891 and her parents were Johann
Krugers ZILSKE and
Caroline CARNUTH. Any help you can give me would be very much
appreciated.
WebMaster'a Note: This PLRL and the KRL were posted to
help permit record
searchers to post entries for ethnic Poles of any religious
belief. Ethnic Germans from
Pomerania prior to World War II need to contact and submit your
genealogy to Myron
Gruenwald, editor of Die Pommerschen
Leute and ask to be included in its huge 100,000+ person
Die Vorfahren database
of
Pomeranians.

Searching for Sarah WOLCZEK (?) I am seeking information on my
(Jewish) maternal grandmother, Sarah, born Warsaw, Poland about
1881. While we know her American maiden name, we are not able to
furnish a correct Jewish / Polish spelling. In America they
changed it to WALLACK, but we believe that the original
name may have been one of the following: WOLCZEK, WALCZEK,
WALCZYK, or WOLCZYK. Grandmother was one of six siblings (Lena,
Sarah, Eva, Pauline, Molly and Herman) all born in Warsaw. She
always talked of her beautiful Warsaw and walking to the opera
house with her sisters. We believe grandmother met Sam
YARESHEFSKI (YAROSHEVSKY) of Odessa when he traveled to Warsaw on
business for his father. They married there, and emigrated to
the US in the early 1900s, as grandfather's naturalization
certificate states that he was naturalized in 1906. Other family
members also immigrated to the US. If anyone has any information
on my Grandmother or her family, please contact me with all
deliberate speed.
