Suggestions for
effective Poland Research
List
Messages:
- PL is the two letter Internet "Country Code" for Poland.
- Thus the PLRL = Poland Research List - for ethnic Poles and
those researchers with ethnic Poles as ancestors.
- Please include (or add) the religion of the ancestor, if
known (Most Poles were Catholic or Jewish, only a few were
Lutheran).
- Include the former region they came from, if known.
- Please advise A. Gathright if or when your eMail address (or
postal address if posted here) changes.
- Please encourage other Poland record searchers you encounter
to post here
too.

I'm searching for any one who can help with tracing the relatives
of Franciszek BABIS, born Poland 1895,
married Marisha MATUSZCAK. They had ten children; they escaped
from Poland during World War II.
Franciszek and three sons were missing. We believe their
religion to be Roman Catholic. Marisha BABIS
finaly took her family through Siberia, India and then settled
with the help of the Red Cross in England. We
are the decendants of the youngest male Tedeuzs BABIS and live in
Australia. Any help or suggestions will be
appreciated.

I am looking for grandfather's family or relatives. His name was
Gzregorz DZIEWIDEK. He was born in Galicia around 1879. He
emigrated to America (Minneapolis, Minnesota) in the early
1900's. He went by either Gregory or George and married my
grandmother, Carolina MIERZWA (daughter of Joannes MIERZWA and
Agnieska KUKLA) around 1907 at Sambor. He served in the Austrian
army. A researcher found a recent survey that showed DZIEWIDEK
name at Gorzow, Jelinia Gora, Katowice, Koszalin, Lublin, Opole,
Premysl, Szczecin, Tarnow, and Walbrzych regions. Grandmother was
born at Rakszawa, Poland in 1888. Grandmother did live in
Wolica, Poland for a while. Grandfather's emigration to US was
sponsored by a Julian KOKOSINSKI. Any information will be
appreciated.

I am getting desparate. I am looking for information from my
family line in Gleboka, Sambor, Poland. My
g-grandfather Stanley PACHOLEWSKI came from Gleboka around 1900
to McKees Rock, Pennsylvania. He
was married to Helena Maryana DOBRZECHOWSKI. Stanley's parents
were Michel PACHOLEWSKI and
Mary SAWOLIA. Michel's parents were John PACHOLEWSKI and Anna
HOUINKA. These people are
becoming more a mystery to me as I cannot find any of them.
Please help.

I am researching for any information on the KOROLDEN family. My
Grandfather was born in Krakow 1898. His name at birth was Carol
KOROLDEN. After passing through immigration it was changed to
Charles. His Moher was Anna BUSCO. His father was John KOROLDEN.
Charles had a brother, Joesph. His last name was either KROLDEN
or KAROLDEN. John KOROLDEN died in the Austro Hungarian Empire.
That is when his family decided to immigrate to America. They
emigrated before 1914.

After thirteen years, I still have not found the place of origin
in Poland for my family. I offer the following information to
see if I can get some opinions and suggestions regarding what I
should try next. Family tradition says Martha KAWALSKI (born 17
August 1873, died 16 April 1954) emigrated to the United States
to join her half brother, John DAIR / DYER / DAYER at Peshtigo,
near Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan circa 1890 or
1891. Martha KAWALSKI and Joseph KOSTREWSKI / COSTRZEWSKI (born
3 March 1858), both born in Poland, were married at Menominee,
Michigan in St. Adalberts Roman Catholic Church on 1 August 1892.
Family tradition said Joseph had first wife and children, all of
whom died in Wisconsin or Michigan.
Martha and Joseph traveled West to Tacoma, Washington before the
birth of their first child on 15 June 1893. Five children were
born at Tacoma and baptized in the St. Stanislaus Koska Roman
Catholic Church, whose records are now at the Church of Saints
Peter and Paul. The remaining six children were baptized in the
Church of Saint Joseph, Pe Ell, Washington. where the family
farmed. Joseph was apparently naturalized in 1900 and the entire
family went by the name of KOSKI. The last of their eleven
children just died in 1996. In the 1900 Federal census for Pe
Ell, Lewis County, Washingron, Joseph and Martha both said they
were born in "German Poland". John Dair, in the 1900 census of
Peshtigo, Wisconsin, said he was born in Germany. In the 1910
census, Pe Ell, Lewis County, Washingtonm Joseph and Martha said
they were born in Russian Poland. John Dair has not been found.
In the 1920 census of Chehalis, Lewis County Washington, Joseph
and Martha give their place of birth as Poland.
Contact with descendants of my great-grandmother's half brother,
John Dyer, finds they know nothing about their family, but they
are all Roman Catholic and they do consider themselves to be
Polish, not German. They can't tell me when John Dyer died so I
can search for his obituary or death certificate. Obituaries,
death certificates and cemeteries for Joseph and Martha say
nothing about where they came from in Poland. The church where
they were married has no record of their transfer to the church
and the churches where the children were baptized had no
information regarding where they came from in Poland. A
professional researcher in Washington State did find Joseph's
naturalization certificate, but was unable to find a declaration
of intent. Any and all opinions and suggestions would be
welcome.

My grandparents Jozef and Stefania SZYMANSKI (born circa 1900)
lived at Raczynow (village, not far from
Pabianice). They had 3 sons (Leon, Janek, Bronek) and one
daughter (Marysia). Does anyone have any
information on the SZYMANSKI ancestors prior to my grandparents,
where they may have originally been
from etc.?
