Posen Research List
- POSRL -
First Posted: 3 November 1996..................................FEEFHS Web Site Version
Background: Posen became a province of Prussia in the late 1700's when Poland
was partitioned by the German, Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires. Both ethnic
Germans and Poles lived there during the 18th and 19th centuries during this time when
Poland did not exist as a country. Posen again became a part of Poland after World War I in
1919.
Remember that the capital of the province of Posen is also named Posen. So this needs to be
repeated (Posen, Posen) if it was a place where a birth, marriage or death occured in that
city.
Webmaster's note: The Posen Research List (POSRL) acquired its name
and acronym from the first three letters of POSEN and the fact that it is an online Research
List -- in FEEFHS's language an "RL". While this is a modest start, it is hoped that every
Posen record searcher that sees this page will eventually offer their entry ( = query) to help
themselves and others deal with Posen genealogy.
FEEFHS has posted this page on the WWW and is paying the expense of maintaining it on
our web site as a service to all Posen genealogy record searchers, and in recognition of the
fact that no genealogy society or organization specifically exists for Posen record searchers
except for the German genealogy societies and organizations,
most of which are FEEFHS members. This Research List is offered as a "netwrking" finding
aid and service to them and their members as well as to the genealogy community
worldwide.
Bob has volunteered her time to receive, aggregate and assemble entries (submittals) from
both eMail and snail mail and then transmit them to the webmaster who codes them into
HTML and post them on the web. We hope you will benefit from our labor of love. If you
do, please remember that the FEEFHS web site expense is paid for by FEEFHS memberships
-- both indidvidual and organizational. Thank you for your interest in FEEFHS and this
page.
Please send all new entries, additions and corrections by eMail (preferred) or snail mail

Suggestions for writing a more effective Research List
entry:
- ***Capitalize all surnames.***: Example: "SCHEFFLER, Bob".
- State your problem succinctly. What are you looking for?
- Do not abbreviate - we have the space, so spell it out.
- Remember this message is read worldwide - make it easy for others to understand you.
- Avoid cryptic messages - use words and statements that clarify.
- Include all relevent data: surnames and important dates of your search.
- List all place names that are important to your search if you know them.
- Include all surnames you are searching or have information on to share with others.
- Avoid forms and tables; use text to say it -- more browsers can read it this way.
- Remember all unique words of your message are indexed by our search engine.
- Provide a postal mailing address if you do not have an eMail address.
- Review your message periodically; then revise, extend and refine it.
- Please advise Bob if or when your eMail address or postal address changes.
- Encourage other Posen researchers you encounter to post here too.
