(Romanian Orthodox).
I am looking for relatives of John SINITEAN born 1877 and wife
Elena / Helen MOISESKU (MOJSZESZKU)
born 1880 both in Nagy Szent Miklos, Hungary. The emigrated to
US in 1912. They were members of
Romanian Orthodox Church in South St. Paul, Minnesota before
moving to Chicago around 1920. After John's
death, Elena married John T. SARAFOLEAN and lived in South St.
Paul, Minnesota.
I am interested in other Romanians who emigrated from Nagy Szent
Miklos, Hungary (Sannicolau Mare,
Romania) to St. Paul / South St. Paul, Minnesota and Chicago,
Illinois in early 1900s, including BARZAN, DOICHITA, PAPES,
TINTOI, and others.
FIELDS, Carolyn

I am searching for information on my grandparents, Levi and Sara
FELDSTEIN, and their ancestors. They
lived in Bucharest, and Levi was a tailor. My father, Michael
Feldstein, was born in Bucharest in 1888. Levi,
Sara, and Michael emigrated to the USA in December 1903 and lived
at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
FILKIN, Paul
eMail address: filky@enterprise.net
My wife is Romanian, Gabriela SCORTE, born 2 July 1960 at Oradea,
Romania. Whilst she is not
fully aware of her family history in detail we have started to
"push" the members of her family
who all still live in Romania for more information. This will
include the surnames FURILJAS and
LASSELL. We will be publishing the information on my Family Tree
site
http://homepages.enterprise.net/filky/genealog.htm in due
course.
FOCHT, Tom
eMail address: bigsix@prodigy.net
I'm searching for information on the FOCHT and FRITZ surnames.
Both families were Roman Catholic.
It seems my Grandmother Karolina FRITZ's (born 1885) family came
from Triebswetter. She married Andreas FOCHT (born 1882) about
1906, possibly in Triebswetter.
His family is said to have come from either Triebswetter or a
town near there. Karolina FRITZ had
two sisters, Katherine (called Mary) and Elizabeth. The three
came to the USA. Their parents were
named Jos. and Catherine (maiden name unknown) Fritz. The 'Jos.'
was taken from the death
certificate of Karolina and I do not know what his given name
was.
I'm presently reviewing the LDS films of church records for
Triebswetter and extracting many FRITZ
names. Surprisingly there are none named FOCHT so I'm getting
the feeling that FOCHT came from
outside the area this church covered. Jos. FRITZ died in Austria
Hungary in the late
1880's or early 1890's. His wife Katherine came to the USA
around 1910 and returned to Aus/Hun
around 1913 with Elizabeth following some unknown number of years
later. Andreas FOCHT's parents
I believe were named Matt and Katherina (maiden name unkown)
FOCHT. If anyone has run across
these names or can help me locate married records for any of the
above or offer any advice on
getting more information on the FOCHT's or FRITZ's please contact
me.

I am looking for information about a great uncle, Gregorio
Giustina, born 2 October 1841 at San Vito di
Cadore, Belluno, Italy. As a young man he went to Romania.
Indications are that he married, but have no
information on this or whether there were any children. I have a
copy of a letter he wrote, dated January 1897,
to his brother, my grandfather. His address was noted: Strada
Calanasi 47 (or Strada Calanasgi 47) Buzen,
Romania. Reportedly he died in 1925. Any help would be
appreciated.

My grandfather, Mihai Groza, was born 15 October 1889 at Feleacu,
near Cluj, but I am not sure
about the date. My grandmother, Veronica BODEA, was born 21
September 1899 at Miersig, a village
near Oradea. My great grandfather was Pascal Bodea and my great
grandmother was Anna GRETAS.
They were ethnic Romaians in what was Austria-Hungary when they
left the country. I have located
the birth record of my grandmother. I am still searching for
information on my grandfather. I
know that I have relatives still there but have not been able to
successfully trace family
information. I have been traveling to Romania every summer
since 1991, working on training,
research or technical assistance projects in child welfare. I am
interested in finding more
information about my family in Romania.

1938-1939 at Sadogora, Poland (no proof of this). They had
children: 1. Victoria, born 1886, Ukaraine

They both came to U.S circa 1907-1911.

for organizing the fishermen from Tulcea into a cooperative,

(Orthodox Jewish)
I am trying to find out more about my maternal Grandfather's
family ancestry. This is all that I know so far:
My great-grandfather Albert RUBIN (born ?, died about 1944) and
his wife Hannah WEILBERG (born ?, died
about 1900) emigrated with their family from Romania to Brooklyn,
New York about 1897 or 1898. They were
Orthodox jews. They had five children (all born in Romania I
believe): Joseph 'Yoel' RUBIN (my grandfather,
was born 2 August 1897, died 30 October 1988 - I believe he was
the youngest); Sadie; Benny; Harry and
Hymie. He also had three children from a previous marriage
(wife's name unknown): Louie; Sammy and
Lillie. They probably also had yiddish names. I do not know
which city in Romania they were from or which
city in Europe was their port-of-departure. Joseph RUBIN married
Jean 'Yenta' LOPATIN (born in Russia 15
September 1903, died in New York City 20 January 1991). They
were married in New York City 26 June
1927.
Webmaster's Note: Check with publisher Sam Elpern and/or
other leaders of Jewish ROM-SIG -- they
would best know the emigration patterns from Romania for Jewish
emigrants (In any case I strongly urge you
to join ROM-SIG and read
their excellent quarterly printed
newsletters).
I do know that many ethnic Germans and Austrians from the Banat
(part was Romanian after WW I) and other
ethnic Germans from Transylvania (all Hungarian prior to WW I,
all Romanian afterwards) left from Hamburg
and suspect the railroad links were such that they favored this
port for most of Romanian emigrants. Hamburg
passenger lists are on FHL microfilm. Also the Hamburg police
records - required even today of all transients
- are also on FHL microfilm; these will indicate the prior town
they came from/lived in.

I am looking for any information on the surnames PURENCIU and
STRIMBU. Nick PURENCIU was probably born around the 1880's
somewhere in Romania. I believe he immigrated to America in the
early 1900's to New Philadelphia, Ohio. He married Eugenia
STRIMBU (born 20 December 1897 or 1898, died 10 September 1984);
she was born in the Vad region of Romania. She also immigrated
to America in the early 1900's. They had 3 children: Eugenia
(died at 9 months), Helene (died at 13 years) and Nick (born
1920, died 1989). I believe all the children were born at New
Philadelphia, Ohio. Eugenia STRIMBU had at least 2 brothers,
Nick (1891-1968) and Victor (1894-1969), and possibly other
siblings. Their father's name was Pantilimon STRIMBU.
ROMAN, Steven John (Steve)
email address: RomanEmpire@torchlake.com
I live in Michigan and no other related Romans live in this state
that I or my parents know of. My grandfather
whose name was John Roman, arrived at Ellis Island on June 21,
1906. The boat that he traveled on was the
Sofia Honenberg owned be the Austra American Lines. John's first
name appeared as Joan on the
naturalization papers. The Romanian document that I am looking at
seems to indicate a few jurisdictions or
locals where John came from. As shown on document: j.
Gluuedoara, pl. baut de Cris and on the side of the
document in bold letters Dela parohia ortodoxa romana Grohot.
Since I am not proficient in this particular language, I can only
make an educated guess in the correct spelling
of the previous towns. The only other information that I can
provide is that John was born on 2 July 1888 and
he married a woman named Anna Pfeifer in 1923. She seems to
arrived in New York in 1920, originally from
Austria / Hungary. They resided in Weirton or Follansbee, West
Virginia where my father, John Aaron Roman
Jr. born 26 October 1925 and my aunt Betty grew up at. If this
is of any help at all, my father (John Jr.) said
that John Sr. came from Transylvania. I am not sure if this
conflicts with the above mentioned regions of
Romania, but hope it might be of some help. Thanks for any
assistance that you could provide in
this subject.
Webmaster's Note: Your surnames are Germanic and your
reference to Transylvania indicates you need
to be in contact with the Transylvanian Saxon
Genealogy and
Heritage Society whose HomePage is on this website.
