The Slovenian Genealogy Society's Everyname Master Index of Church Histories,
Volume 1is by Mary Lou Davison and was formatted by James C. Davison. This
volume contains indexes from 26 church histories labeled AA to ZA. Note well the folowing
information that applies to all 26 files:
- Each person's name is followed by the 2 letter code indicating the book from which it
was abstracted and the page number or numbers.
- A small "p" following this number indicates a photograph exists.
- The books were individually indexed and then combined to create this master
index.
Consequently there may be several listings for the same name.
- It is the researcher's responsibility to determine if they are the same person.
- Names were indexed as they appeared, some were mis-spelled in the church history,
so be sure to check spelling variants.
- There are 21,700 entries in Volume 1.
Question: What to Do When I find a Listing of Interest?
Answer: This master index of church histories is a compilation of the indexes
from 26 church histories. We broke it into 26 files and an index file to make handling it
easier. Information about how the master file was put together is given above and in the
Background and Index.
An individual finding a hit should:
- Look to the code and page number and then
- return to the master church history index for a
determination of which church history the information came from. The searcher can
then:
- Write (snail mail) to Slovenian Genealogy Society (SGS)
International headquarters sending your name of interest, the name of the church
history and the page it was found on. SGS will then look into the volume and supply
information if there is any. Frequently the name appeared in a membership list, so there is
only proof of membership. Other times, the name is of an active member and there is
additional information.
- You should also try to contact the church itself for additional information.
- In addition, you now know that individual is from a particular town. So town, county,
state and other records can be searched. This can be useful when you know an ancestor
came to the U.S. but then dropped from sight.
"I hope this is adequate. Let me know if it is not".
