Slovenian Researcher,

The Slovenian Genealogy Society has been collecting histories or jubilee booklets of Slovenian churches since 1988, when the Slovenian Genealogy Society was founded. As each history is acquired an every name index is made for it; these are then compiled into a Master Index.

Volume I was published in the early 1990s, and has been available on the Internet since 1995. Volume II in now ready for publication and posting online. We are convinced these indexes will help the Slovenian genealogist follow the historical journey of many early Slovenian immigrants. We are already working on Volume III.

In many instances, church documents can be a significant source of information about Slovenian immigrants after immigration papers themselves (ship manifests.) Slovenians tended to start and maintain deep faith and fraternal relationships. Church records can frequently be used to trace early immigrant movement about the new nation, even prior to the filing of naturalization papers.

The society is still in need of many church histories, jubilee books and souvenir publications. Many churches mentioned in early texts (Trunk) are no longer in existence, and many others have been consolidated into larger parishes. This consolidation process continues today. Our challenge is to collect a history of every Slovenian parish.

Please make it a point to purposely seek out church histories and jubilee booklets in your local community for donation to the Slovenian Genealogy Society. Where books cannot be spared, please arrange to donate photocopies. (Remember to observe photocopy laws, although most of these books have been made available for distribution without copyright.) Please do not hesitate to send us duplicate texts. Our society has made arrangements with several important ethnic libraries, and duplicate books will be placed or traded to these libraries by our Society.

Finally we always need individuals to help us compile the every name indexes that turn these books into viable genealogical sources. Please volunteer your time by contacting
