I am
seeking help in my search for historical roots of the family Bressan. I
have received information there was a settlement of 100 known as C.
Bressan which was situated in an area known as Gorizia-Gorica in what I
believe to be on the coast of Slovenia. The small southern alpine
village my grandmother was born in had a population with only two
surnames, Bressan and Faes, at the time I visited there as a child in
1936. I am interested in finding out if there are Slovenian roots to
this family of Bressans. My grandmother's name was Teodora Bressan and
her brother Emilio Bressan, along with other brothers and sisters,
remained
in the family home and lands in the
village of Fraveggio, now in the province of Trentino, Italy. It was
formerly under the Austrian flag, and Trent, but was ceded to Italy
after WWI. The village is not far from the city of Trento some many
miles below the Brenner Pass leading into modern Austria. My
grandfather, who took
his bride Teodora to America in 1900,
was from the same region, and he had served under Emperor Franz Josef
of Austria. This region and Slovenia were at one time part of the
Austro-Hungarian empire. Slovenians did emigrate to the Tyrol, I am
told. Any helpful reply would be appreciated.

Member, Martha Gates is requesting
help in searching for information on Justina Rutar. Her obituary in
Ely, MN in 1937 says she was born in Whitney, PA and taken back to the homeland of Slovenia as
an infant. She returned to the US in 1921 and lived with her Uncle
Frank Friep/Fister in Ely, MN. She married Anton Struna in Ely, MN. I’d like to know who her
parent are and why they went back to Slovenia. I believe her family
were miners. They came from a mining area , Kempolge in the Ljubljana
region, and went to mining areas in PA and MN.

Fellow Slovenian researcher, Jim
Mockford, is searching for information on his maternal grandparents.
Mr. Mockford would like to hear from any member who may have information relating to the Edward
Dolgan (spelled Dougan in Slovenia) family. Edward Dolgan married Rose
Chikado in Trinidad, Colorado where he settled in 1921. Edward was the son of
Lourenc Dougan b. Aug. 11, 1840 and mother Mary Torusie b. Jan. 29,
1850. Mr. Mockford would also like to know if the Dougan’s may be
related to Anton Dougan mentioned in connection with the Prekjama Castle.

I'd be very grateful if you could
include an entry in your newsletter at the next opportunity. I'm trying
to track information on my father's family Joseph Poje (b. 23 Feb 1903)
at Preza 8 or Prose (then Austrian, now Slovenia), the son of Anton
& Maria Poje, married July 22, 1894. He had two brothers (Johan,
1901 and Anton, 1899) and five sisters (Magdalena 1896, Maria, 1904,
Rozalia 1906, Maria 1809 and Anna, 1909. He is believed to have served
in the Jugoslav Cavalry and may have been a civil servant or government
official and may have been a widower. He was a registered citizen of
the National Committee of the Kingdom of Jugoslavia (12408 / 45). He
entered England in 1948. He married Florence Evelyn Hudson (b
Stapleford Notts, 12 Dec 1911) in 1949 and had two children, John and
Christine. He became a British Citizen in February 1967 and died
shortly after retiring, in Creswell, Derbyshire in September 1975. I
would be grateful for any further information that anyone may have.
