READ THESE NOTES ENTIRELY

AND follow the directions for Suggestions for effective Ukraine Research List Messages BEFORE you send me your post. Not reading and following the guidelines could be ... a problem.

You MUST include in your subject, somewhere, UARL. I receive a lot of email every day from many sources and it's the only way I will know what your email is about. If not, I might inadvertantly throw it away.

Surnames: MARKIW, ZALIPSKA
Region: Zdeshiew, (sp?, located near Kiev) Ukraine, Austria
I am from a family descending from Thomas MARKIW (born 1864, died 1943) and Mary Markiw located in a village called Zdeshiew (sp.) Ukraine located near Kiev. Their children were Michael Markiw (my grandfather), Walter, Catherine, Harry, and Paul. My grandfather, Michael, came the first time to America in June 1907 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in 1908 returned to Ukraine to see his parents. In 1909 there were boys called to join the selective service to the Austrian Army , but my grandfather was 19 and you must be 21. He then realized he needed to return to America. So in June 1909 (after a stopover in Germany) he came back to Pittsburgh on the South Side. In 1911 he went to Butler, Pennsylvania and met my grandmother, Anna ZALIPSKA (Polish) and in 1913 they were married. I would very much like to find out about Zdeshiew (sp?). Everywhere I look..I cannot find it. I know my grandfather has relatives in Washington, Pennsylvania and Ford City, PA. Would appreciate any information that can be found.
