I am only the coordinator/list manager. I can not help you with your specific research nor do I have any personal resources. As I find resources on the net, or people inform me of them, I add them to my suggested Ukraine Resource List.

The idea for these types of posts is for it to be a detailed query in order to have a better opportunity for you to find someone who can assist you. Using the UARL, in conjunction with the FEEFHS web site index and the web search engines that index UARL, you are taking advantage of a numbers game and is a case of "the more you sow, the more you reap." In other words, the more full names, places and vital details you can offer, the more contacts you will get in return. The difference between a FEEFHS Research List entry and a printed query in some other genealogical publication is that we make enough space available for you to set up the background for a significant genealogical question to be posted and answered.

UARL

  • You MUST include in your subject, somewhere, UARL. I receive a lot of email every day from many sources and it's the only way I will know what your email is about. If not, I might inadvertently throw it away ....
  • UA is the two letter Internet "Country Code" for the Ukraine. Thus, "UARL" = Ukraine Research List.

CAPITALIZATION

  • Capitalize ALL SURNAMES whether in the title or in the body of the message being posted.
  • Do NOT capitalize anything else, please.

ABBREVIATIONS

  • Avoid abbreviations at all costs (spell it out) ... not everyone uses the same ones or speaks the same language.
  • Abbreviations can present problems for other researchers.

YOUR MESSAGE

  • State your problem clearly and succinctly
  • Avoid cryptic messages - use precise words and statements that clarify what you are seeking/asking for or explaining.
  • Include all relevant data: surnames, places (current and/or former) and important dates of your search.
  • Include the probable/actual religion of each line - important for locating church or synagogue records.
  • List every place name that is important to your search if you know them.
  • Include all surnames you are searching or have information on to share with others.
  • Try to avoid forms and tables; using one line of text per person is preferred.

REMEMBER

  • All unique words of your message are indexed by our search engine.
  • Provide a mailing address if you do not have an E-mail address.
  • Consider posting both your E-mail address and your postal address. If your postal address is included, your entry will be forwarded by post to Wally Rusel of the Ukraine Genealogical and Historical Society of Canada for his consideration as a possible printed query in their quarterly UGHSC newsletter. (Download a copy of the latest submission to UGHSC. This file is in RTF format.)
  • Review your message periodically; then revise, extend and refine it.
  • Please advise our list manager if or when your email address (or postal address if posted here) changes. From time to time, I will send out verifications regarding your posting. If your email bounces and I do not have a snail mail address for you, I will have to remove your posting.
  • Encourage other record searchers you encounter to post on a FEEFHS Research List, too.
  • Help us collect more resources for our fellow researchers. If you find a helpful link, please let me know about it so I can update our Ukraine List of Resources.

Please send all new entries, additions, corrections, etc. to Jeanne Gold, using one of these methods:
