COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
Most of the work on the park should be done this summer. We hope
to dedicate our plaque to Zichydorf pioneers in September. Stand
by for more info in the Fall newsletter.
NEW AT THE LIBRARY AND ON THE WEB
The Family of Nicolas Lang II, 2nd edition, compiled and
donated by Joe Lang of Montmartre. I am still adding these
records to the Zichydorf database, so it is not yet in the
library. Let me know if you are interested in this book and I
will contact you when I am finished with it. See review
below.
Verlorene Heimat Georghausen by Josef Wüst is now in
the library. Thanks to Ray Borschowa for obtaining this
important resource for us. See review below.
Try this web site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~banatdata/DreyerShipList-Zichydorf.htm I reported on this
compilation by Dave Dreyer in an earlier newsletter. This new
site contains the previous data plus many new additions. Data is
compiled from Ship Records in the US Archives.
CD-ROM PROJECT
We will scan as many old Zichydorf and Zichydorfer pictures as we
can find and copy them to a CD, creating a permanent digital
record of our Zichydorf heritage for future generations! Those
who contribute a certain level of content will receive a free CD
in return. Those who do not contribute will be able to buy them
for a nominal fee. Content will include pictures, family trees
in GEDCOM or text format, stories, indices that we have created
for the web, etc., etc. The only limits are our
imaginations.
BOOK REVIEWS
The Family of Nicolas Lang II, 2nd edition, compiled by
Joe Lang, contains a brief history of the family's immigration to
Canada and an extensive genealogy. The Lang family connects to
many other Zichydorf genealogies. Names you may recognize are
Frass, Anwender, Rist, Ortman, Roszlein, Niedermayer, Zimmer,
Hornsburger, Basch, Flichel, Mayer, and many more. Any Zichydorf
researcher would be well advised to review this book. You may
find missing links you have been looking for.
Verlorene Heimat Georghausen by Josef Wüst is very
similar to the Achtzener Zichydorf book with which most of us are
familiar. Georghausen (also known as Velika Greda and
Györgyhaza [often pronounced Yurichhaas]) is just a few
kilometres from Zichydorf and was founded predominantly by
Zichydorfers in 1849. The book contains a history of the
village, including a brief history of Zichydorf and a description
of the disaster of Word War II. There are also sections on
customs, residents listed by house number, a map, pictures, and
even recipes. If you haven't already guessed, this book is in
German. Anyone willing to help translate? If enough volunteers
will each do a few pages, we will investigate the
possibilities.
ACHTZENER BOOK TRANSLATION
Congratulations to Elizabeth Hugel who has completed the
monumental task of translating and publishing Joahnn Achtzener's
two books about Zichydorf. This is an absolute "must have" for
any Zichydorf researcher. It contains the history of the
village, many pictures, and a roster of the residents in 1944
with birth dates. Liz has already shipped more than 50 copies.
The book costs $32.00 CDN, plus postage. Contact: Elisabeth
Hugel, 22 Dalhousie Way, REGINA Saskatchewan S4V OA2; Phone:
(306) 761-0656; email: bhugel@cableregina.com
CENTENARY PROJECT
Elisabeth Hugel has proposed that we produce a Zichydorf family
history book for the 2005 centenary of Saskatchewan as a
province. The format would be similar to the community histories
that many towns produced in the 1970's. There may be financial
assistance available from various granting agencies. What do you
think? We will discuss this at our forthcoming meeting.
ST. MARY'S CHURCH RECORDS
John Hugel has not been able to overcome his back trouble and is
now scheduled for surgery. This has obviously limited his
progress on this project. Good luck John. Hope you are back on
your feet soon.
ANOTHER ZICHYDORF HISTORY BOOK
Andrew Roeslein of St. Louis recalls a Zichydorf history by
Arnold Lehrer written in the 1920's. Does anyone else recall
this book? Does anyone know where we might acquire a copy? If
so, please contact Glenn. If we can find a copy, it would be a
great legacy to preserve it in our library collection.

MEMBERSHIP AND DUES
We welcome all members, dues paying or not, for the knowledge
they share with all of us. However, we hope members will
voluntarily contribute to the cost of maintaining the group (web
site, mailings, etc.). We suggest a one-time donation of $25 CDN
to the library fund plus an annual donation of $10 to run the
association's affairs. Canadian members will receive a tax
receipt for the library donation from the Saskatchewan
Genealogical Society. Please consider forwarding your 2000 dues
in the near future. If you don't remember whether you have paid
for 2000, please consult the list below. Some of you have made
substantial donations not directly attributable to dues. You may
not appear on the list, but thank you very much anyway.
