"Call for Papers" for the FEEFHS 2020 conference

Beginning November 1, the Foundation for East European Family History Studies (FEEFHS) will accept speaker proposals for its 2020 conference, which will be held August 5-7, 2020, at the Plaza Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The foundation is looking for new and exciting topics that span the range of genealogy and family history research. Subjects should draw on the lecturer’s areas of expertise, yet be broad enough to appeal to a general audience. Topics should encompass countries of Eastern Europe, including areas of the former Russian Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire, and German Empire. Other topics such as DNA, minority research, general resources, technology, etc. will also be considered.

Class sessions at the conference will be 60 minutes, including time for questions.

FEEFHS is also looking for topics for pre-conference workshops, which teach hands-on research skills. The pre-conference will be at the Plaza Hotel on August 3 and 4. Proposals should be based on a single three-hour workshop, or two three-hour workshops (usually split into two days).

Each speaker could also provide one-on-one consultations, usually 50 minutes in consultations. The first consultation to a conference attendee is to be at no charge; fees for follow-up consultations with the same attendee can be arranged between the consultant and the attendee.

We will consider the delivery of lectures via the internet for presenters who cannot be in Salt Lake City.

Speakers will receive free registration to the pre-conference and conference, and an electronic syllabus. If two classes are taught, the presenter will also receive a lunch ticket for the day(s) when the classes are taught. For three or more classes taught, the presenter will receive all of the above plus a Friday banquet ticket. Each 50-minute pro-bono consultation counts the same as a class.

The submission for each class must include the following:

  • Title of presentation (no more than 15 words)
  • Short outline of each proposed topic (to avoid overlaps between speakers)
  • Summary of the presentation (100 words maximum – which will be published on the FEEFHS website)
  • Presenter’s full name (as you prefer to have it published on the website)
  • Postal and email address, and phone number (preferable cell phone – for internal use only)

The following information should be also included if needed:

  • Preferred date(s)
  • Brief speaker biography and a photograph (if a previous presenter, please check the FEEFHS website if edits are desired)

If selected, please be prepared to submit your class syllabus. Instructions will be sent with the acceptance notification.

The submission deadline is December 31, 2019.

The submission can be sent in by email (submissions@feefhs.org); all submissions can be sent together in one email or in one letter.

Submissions may also be sent by mail to:
