James L. Tanner
James L. Tanner holds a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Utah, as well as a J.D. from Arizona State University. He served as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Army for two years and spent 39 years as a trial attorney in Arizona. With over 44 years of genealogical research experience, James is the author of the Genealogy’s Star blog and has produced over 500 genealogy videos on YouTube. He previously served for ten years as a missionary at the Mesa FamilySearch Library and is currently serving at the BYU Library Family History Center. He is a member of the FamilySearch GEDCOM Steering Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Family History Guide Association, and a member of the Coalition for Responsible AI in Genealogy. James has presented at expos and conferences across the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
