Coming from the East: Little Known Resources for Tracing Germans from Russia (Germans from Russia track)

An introduction to four little-known resources that shed light on the experiences of the “Volksdeutsche” of World War II. The speaker will use examples from her own family to introduce you to EWZ records, village reports gathered in Ukraine, post-war records of displaced persons, and memoirs from survivors of the Soviet Gulag. You’ll also get a brief introduction to the history of ethnic Germans in Eastern Europe and Russia as well as the ethical issues embedded in several of these collections.
