Dr. Hal Learman is a retired optometrist who has done genealogy research for over 40 years. He began volunteering at the Bloomfield Hills Family History Center (FHC) more than 20 years ago. He took a 6 year hiatus from his role at the FHC to serve as Co-Director of the Polonica Americana Research Institute (PARI) at Orchard Lake Schools where he also served as editor for the research guide book, Sto Lat: A Modern Guide to Polish Genealogy; and 2 albums, The History of the Polish Panorama and Portrait Studios of Detroit’s Polonia: The Face of Polish Immigration - all of which were authored by his friend and colleague, Cecile Wendt Jensen. His return to the FHC allows him the time to continue to hone his skills in Eastern European research.
