Conference Dining
We hope you’ll join us for Tuesday night’s Welcome Reception where there will be a buffet of finger foods…and also for the Closing Banquet on Friday night. But in the meantime…
Downtown Salt Lake City has a wide variety of dining venues from restaurants with mouthwatering steak to those with fast food. Many restaurants are within easy walking distance of the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, the conference hotel, or are accessible via TRAX light rail. The information below provides just a handful of options.
Visit Salt Lake provides a complete list of options by cuisine or location.
The Closest, Quickest Food and Snacks Available
Inside/Adjacent to the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel: In the mornings from 7:00-10:00am, the Plaza offers a buffet of pick-up/takeaway breakfast items in the Guest Library across from the elevators. In addition, there are refrigerated and microwaveable items offered for sale in the Lobby that can be purchased at the front desk. The fresh food selection has been enhanced with more daily-delivered items, such as sandwiches, fruit parfaits, cheese snack packs, etc. There is also a guest gift shop offering light snacks and drinks; it is open roughly from 9:00am-5:00pm. Many returnees to Salt Lake may recall the family style restaurant that is attached via an internal hall in the hotel, but which is not operated by it. The restaurant is currently closed and will not be open in 2024.
Inside the FamilySearch Library: On the first floor of the Library is a greatly expanded eating area for patrons. With a large array of vending machines, it offers a variety of frozen and packaged food and drinks. There are microwaves and a sink, disposable cutlery, napkins, etc. Patrons bringing their own food are welcome to eat there as well. Note: no library materials are allowed inside the eating area, and no eating is allowed in the Library outside the eating area.
Harmon's Grocery Store: With microwave ovens and refrigerators in every room, guests can purchase, store and heat food in their rooms. Harmon's Grocery Store is just a few blocks east of the Plaza, making this a handy option.
Dining Out
City Creek Center: Kitty-corner to the Plaza is a two-square-block complex which includes shopping, dining, and entertainment, along with beautiful pathways, fountains, and the restored creek that originally wound its way through that area. There are a variety of restaurants located throughout the property, with options from the more formal to the informal.
Food Court at City Creek Center: For the quickest food, the City Creek food court is located on the east side of the center. Researchers can take a stroll past the historical sites on South Temple or meander through the complex’s shopping areas. To limit walking or if you prefer to ride, take any TRAX line Southbound (traveling east at boarding in front of the Plaza Hotel) to the next stop (City Center stop). This will place you nearest the east entrance to the City Creek food court.
The Gateway: A little over one-half mile southwest is The Gateway–an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment area. The Gateway offers a wide variety of dining venues from Applebee’s to the Rumbi Island Grill. You will find a Japanese sushi bar, a Pub & Grub, and even a Brazilian Grill. A complete listing shows detailed maps of both levels.
To get to the Gateway, walk west on South Temple to 400 West and turn left. Or take the northbound Blue Line on TRAX (which heads west when you board at the Temple Square Station) and exit at the Planetarium Station (second stop).
Dining Options in Temple Square: Venues in Temple Square are currently closed for renovation, which will not be completed until 2025.
