Alexandru TOMA NEMOIANU was born in Bucharest, Romania on 28 April 1948, the youngest son of Virgil and Victoria Nemoianu, originally from Caras-Severin County, Banat. He graduated from the University of Bucharest, College of History Magna Cum Laude in 1971.
Mr. Nemoianu was employed by the Musem of History of Romania initially as a researcher and later as principal researcher, participating in various archeological field diggings in Maramures, Bihor and the Mures Valley.
In 1982 he emigrated to the United States and after residing in Washington D.C. for two years , Mr. Nemoianu accepted the position of Secretary-Resident Historian at the Romanian-American Heritage Center at Jackson Michigan in the fall of 1984. His articles appear regularly in Information Bulletin of the Heritage Center, the the Solia, Cuvantul Romanesc, Lumea Libera, America newspapers in America and the Altarul Banatului of Timosoara, Romania.
Mr. Nemoianu is married to the former Larissa Gabriela PUSCASU, his college classmate, and they have a son, Andrei Toma Nemoianu, who graduated from high school in 1994. All are members of the United Romanian Society of Southfield Michigan.
Eugene SILVIU RAICA was born in Beba Veche, Banat, Romania on 21 December 1949, the son of Nicolae and Elena Raica. he has resided in the Detroit Michigan area since the age of seven, when his mother, a U.S. citizen, was repatriated to America with her family.
Mr. Raica graduated from Wayne State University at Detriot, Michigan in 1972 receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Distinction, with a major in Economics and a minor in History. He was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Chi Rho and Golden Key National Honor Societies. After two years of active duty in thge U.S. Army he earned a master of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University. Currently he is employed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.
A member of many professional and civic organizations, he has held numerous offices in Romanian cultural organizations and has been president of the United Romanian Society since 1988. He is also a contributing writer to the America newspaper and the Information Bulletin of the Heritage Center.
George PASLARU was born in Jevreni, Moldava, Romania on 22 July 1925 and after completion of his secondary education he was selected to attend aviation training in Germany.
In 1950 he emigrated to the United and served in the U.S. Army for three years. After discharge he established residence in Detroit Michigan where he was employed by the General Motors Corporation for fourteen years and then as Chief Photographer by the Chrysler Corporation for eleven years. Currently a Chrysler Corporation contract employee, he has also been a free lance photographer for over three decades, having his photographs printed regularly in the Romanian Communion, America and Credinta Newspapers and Calendars.
Mr. Paslaru is married to the former Patricia CUSEAN, and the father of two daughters, Patricia and Janet. He first joined the United Romanian Society in 1950 and has been active socially in the organization in the ensuing years. All photographs in the monograph are the work of George Paslaru with the exception of those on page 171, 185-189, 196, 200 and 202.
